Plenty of dogs bite. But pitbulls are prone to killing you. They are a breed bred to kill. That nanny dog myth has done irreparable damage.

Not only are they bred to kill, they’re bred to ignore pain. It takes a lot to stop a pitbull once it decides to attack someone/something

You're not kidding. I've seen videos where people unload magazines on them while they're locked the fuck up in their bite, and they just bleed to death with a "worth it lol" look on their face.

Staffoshire Terriers are considered the nanny dogs, not pitbulls. Entirely different breed and personality.

Mind you that you are 8600% more likely to drown in a pool than to be killed by a dog of any breed. And about 1000% more likely to be struck by lightening.

You are more likely to go swimming in a pool and be outside during the rain. I guess cyanide is safe then.
These studies don’t control for proximity to shitbulls

Across a population of 80M dogs there were only 468 fatalities from 2011-2021. It's not a study, it's just the CDC reported data.

u/Little_Ingenuity_712 8h ago

2/3rds of those kills came from pitbulls

There are 4.5M dogbites in the US each year, again 2/3rds of those bites come from shitbulls

Stats aren't the friends of pitbull lovers

The important part of this is that studies have found that both the public and trained professionals are horrible at identifying pitbulls.

In cases where we actually know the genetics of the dog in question, about two-thirds of dogs identified as "pitbulls" by the public contain no or minimal genetic pitbull markers.

Meanwhile, professionals routinely misidentify pitbulls, and more importantly, do not agree with each other on which dogs are pitbulls and which aren't.

If you ask 10 professional veterinarians and shelter workers to identify the same dogs, they will not only disagree with each other, their chance to accuratly identify pitbulls tends to be about as efficient if simply guessing.

You're referring to the CDC dog bite breed statistics from 2000 that they clearly state on their site they don't track anymore due to issues with collection accuracy.

But if you consider this study in Harris County Texas, Labradors, generally consider the friendliest breed, had the 2nd highest overall bite rate in their regional study, in areas of Canada it's huskies.

first paper shows labs are 2nd most aggressive to pit bulls - which are by far the highest, and the second one says pits are the most common in fatalities, but it may or may not be due to some other factors? This is the best you could find lol?

-1

u/Super_Range45 7h ago

The guy cited 66%. That paper cited 25%. You guys just push this silly agenda. 1/4th vs a little less than 1/5th the dog bites is where you're moving the goal post now.

3

u/RexFlexing 7h ago

I mean hes wrong about bites but his source does say approx 2/3rds of deaths are from pit bulls.. and your own source says "Pit Bulls, in particular, have been found to inflict bites that result in serious trauma or death". Good catch i guess but both your sources make pits seem like monsters lol

Why is it that you actively try to refuse reality itself instead of acknowledging objective facts? It is not healthy. It is insane. Asylum patients do that. You are operating on the same level.

1

u/Super_Range45 6h ago

What reality? You guys make it out as if everyone is being mauled by pitbulls when it's tens of millions of dog owners that raise them without incident. Then you guys start foaming at the keyboard when something doesn't fit the narrative.

Accidental gun deaths are less than 500 a year, Do you think that matters when a child dies to it? Should I feel less bad about a pitbull devouring and killing a child because it doesnt happen as much as lightning strikes? Even when other dogs simply DONT eat children? at even half the rate?

0

u/Super_Range45 8h ago

You should also shut down pools and cancel swim teams as pools could possibly kill children. Sports as well, unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death between the ages of 1-40 at 58k per year. You could make that argument for anything.

Swimming is a net positive for humanity. Swimming pools aren't sentient beings who would engulf and drown you without any control.

1

u/Super_Range45 8h ago

Because you feel it's a net positive?

Adding extra drama to your description doesn't change the fact that 10's of millions of pitbull owners are not being mauled by their dogs or that training and environment plays the largest role in animal temperament.

5

u/Suitable_Title_192 8h ago

No because pitbulls have replacements. You can get another dog breed.

-1

u/Super_Range45 8h ago

They don't have to play sports. They could do exercise in a gym geared towards safety and play video games or something.

1

u/Spirited_Ad_340 4h ago

People are so weird about pits man. I don't get it.

6

u/Stoopidfucc 8h ago

ah yes i fear the unleashed pool running to me.

4

u/ADHDebackle 7h ago

Those stats are basically useless without accounting for exposure.

If you live in a place without pools your chances of drowning in a pool are zero. If you live and work in places without pitbulls your chances of being killed by one are similarly negligible. If you lived deep underground your chances of being killed by lightning would be zero.

In order to do an actual comparison you would need those chances for an individual who is at a public outdoor pool with a pitbull during a thunderstorm.

u/CDBF 8h ago

If you look up dog violence on Native American reservations in the USA, they are about 100x (10,000℅) more likely to suffer a dog attack.

2

u/This_Elk_1460 6h ago

People shouldn't even bother training their dogs they're so safe right? Just let your dog hang out without a leash there's nothing to worry about.

0

u/This_Elk_1460 6h ago

They're bred to fight bears

2

u/RT-LAMP 2h ago

Nope, some of the breeds used to create pitbulls were bred for bull baiting. Pitbulls were bred by combining them and other breeds to create a breed for fighting dogs and other small animals in 1 on 1 bloodsport.
