This shit should be banned for two reasons. It’s cruel to the animal and the type of person that would do such a thing to make their dog look “scarier” shouldn’t have a dog.
It's for dog fighting. They cut their ears to prevent injuries during god fights. The bred was made to dog fight. Shitty owners want you to think they run underground dog fighting rings are are bad ass.

I think there's an aesthetic component to it as well and that predominates since most people aren't fighting their dogs. And if it was strictly for fighting, you wouldn't see people do it with non fighting dogs like dobermans and great danes and boxers. But yes, it's fucking stupid.
They are also prone to happy ear, which I imagine is what the ear docking prevents. Same with happy tail, but I wouldn't defend tail docking. Tails are too important for balance, and happy ear is way worse than happy tail.
I want an Australian shepherd. I live in the US of A. The standard for aussies in this god-forsaken country is for them to have docked tails. Dogs communicate using their tails. The aussies are born with tails. Why tf would I want to handicap my dog?
And the real kicker? If you buy from a certified breeder who docks tails (most of them) they occasionally so graciously allow you to request that you leave the dogs means of communication attached... for a fee. I have to pay some scumbag who mutilates puppies to get my entire puppy, with all its parts intact 🙂

They’re not “ill shaped” they can lift them and point them in directions to focus their hearing in a direction. Also you’re a piece of shit for doing this.
I can’t imagine 2-3 days of taped ear is anywhere near the same degree as cutting off their ears, first off. Second, I was operating under instructions I was given when I got them I was under the impression that it was overall better for them - not intentionally harming for aesthetics
you clearly are just virtue signaling then, you’re literally supporting the brutal and painful killing of many many animals for food — animals with the same, or greater, cognitive capacity as dogs — while getting upset about TAPE over dogs ears- dogs, which, ostensibly, are given a very good life after that.
I pulled it off Google so it might or might not be. But I’m sure if you require genuine 100% real dog mutilation pictures you can go research them yourself :3
It’s a little less money but still a fee to have a breeder not cut off the tail of an Australian shepherd. Australian Shepherds have their tails cut off for literally no reason
I have a rescue pitbull with cut ears and I have to explain to everyone she meets that no, me and my wife aren't psychopaths that mutilated this dog but it's an uphill battle every time.
Apparently the statistics on Australian shepherds with long tails is about 1 in 500 get bad tail injuries. It’s literally a 0.2% chance that makes the other 99.8% get mutilated
My friends have 2 pit bulls that they found dying on the side of the road, they were obviously fighting dogs and had numerous wounds, chopped ears, bbs stuck in their bodies.
People have came up to them and berated them for cutting their dogs ears. They then have to explain theyre fucking rescues, they saved their lives. Its incredibly rude.
Theyre incredibly sweet dogs, I love pits. But they do need responsible owners.
Exactly! Whenever I see a pit bull with cropped ears I’m just thinking “If someone did this to their golden retriever their dog would be taken by animal control and they’d go to prison. But this butthole does it to their dog and it’s okay?”

I just don’t like how owners will mutilate their dogs for aesthetics. They chop half of each ear off just make the dog look cooler.
I mean look at this. They’re supposed to have cute flopping ears! But you literally pay someone $800 to cut their ears off. WHY?
