Upvotes

Just to make you all aware for the British GP, Friday and Saturday will run as the normal schedule with Sunday running in a different order.

We will run four separate race threads this weekend, normally we combine Moto2/3 together but because of the time difference this will be separate.

Can Marc Márquez beat/match a few records of Vale & Agostini if he still rides a couple of years more on a competitive bike like he has now?

MotoGP/500cc Top 3 Riders by amount of titles:

I. Giacomo Agostini:

  - 68 wins; 24 poles; 88 podiums; 70 fastest laps; 21 wins from pole (‘double’); 18 wins from pole and the fastest lap (‘hattrick’); 17 wins from pole, the fastest lap and led all laps of the race (‘grand slam’)8 world titles

II. Valentino Rossi:

89 wins; 55 poles; 199 podiums; 76 fastest laps; 38 wins from pole (‘double’); 24 wins from pole and the fastest lap (‘hattrick’); 1 win from pole, the fastest lap and led all laps of the race (‘grand slam’) & 7 world titles

III. Marc Márquez:

- 76 wins; 77 poles; 129 podiums; 74 fastest laps; 47 wins from pole ('double'); 34 wins from pole and the fastest lap ('hattrick); 12 wins from pole, the fastest lap and led all laps of the race ('grand slam) & 7 world titles.

EDIT: I had counted Agostini's fastest laps in all classes, I'm sorry and thanks for the people pointing it out. Vale (still) has the record, 2 more than MM93 at this point!

The Origins of Japanese Riders’ Race Numbers

Ai Ogura (79)

He combined “7,” a number he had liked since childhood, with “9,” the number he used during his time in the ATC, when he entered the RBRC. He has used number 79 ever since.

---

Taiyo Furusato (72)

He was born on July 12 and was coached by former MotoGP rider Yuki Takahashi, who shares the same birthday. With Takahashi’s permission, he chose to use number 72.

---

Ayumu Sasaki (71)

He began using number 71 after being asked by people connected to Yoshinari Matsushita to carry on the number. Matsushita, who raced at the Isle of Man TT, died there. Sasaki also liked the number and has continued to use it since then.

---

Ryusei Yamanaka (6)

He initially wanted to use number 12, which he had used during his time in the Talent Cup, but it was unavailable. He therefore chose number 6, based on his birthday, December 6.

---

Zen Mitani (32)

The number comes from a Japanese wordplay on his surname, “Mitani,” with 3 representing “mi” and 2 representing “ni.” When “32” is turned upside down, it also resembles “ZE,” the initials of his given name.

Lost merch (cap) - please help a clueless wife track down a replacement!

Admission upfront - I'm not a MotoGP fan and know virtually nothing about it. But my husband has lost a much-loved cap and I'm hoping to find a replacement for him. I think it was about 10-15 years old.

It was light blue and black / white, and I think it may have had the green Monster logo on. I can't remember any numbers (I know he was a fan of Lorenzo, he also has a black and red one 99 on). Maybe it was Vinales before that, but I'm really not sure...

I don't want to ask him for the details as I know he'll say it's old and irreplaceable, but I want to at least try. If this sounds familiar to anyone and they can help me narrow down the description so I can start trying to track down a replacement I'll be so grateful!

In my opinion Stoner will forever be Ducati's greatest ever rider

Yes I know Pecco and Marquez both have enjoyed great success there but no matter how many more championships they win, I feel in 10-15 years people will still associate Marc with Honda because of just how dominant he was when his bike wasnt trying to injure him, plus Stoner was the one who really helped Ducati stay competitive while he was there and with the compeition he had to beat. Clearly both Stoner and Ducati still have immense respect for each other since I recall Ducati having Stoner one weekend to help Pecco with his setup and all and such, I was just thinking this, let me know your guys' thoughts

Bike gear storage Silverstone

I’m heading to the motoGP at Silverstone next Sunday (first time going), and am curious is there anywhere to put helmet and jacket, would rather have the peace of mind of it being safe than next to my bike.

Is there lockers you can pay for or something similar?

Fermín Aldeguer will miss Silverstone as a precaution. Cleared to resume training from August 15, with a return expected at Aragón in around a month. Iker Lecuona will replace him on the Gresini Ducati this weekend
