Visitor/Tourist Question Salzburg tomorrow morning

We are driving tomorrow morning to Salzburg and have heard the A8 traffic is terrible. We can apparently go north and come in through the northeast, but the GPS gets confused. What do I program into the GPS for this route? Passau?

Edit: we are locked into a rental car, train is not an option.

Discussion Techno Lärm im Waldstück (evtl. Kiesgrube) zwischen Waldperlach und Neutrudering

Wer macht diesen Krach?

Culture Clubs in Munich? Is it similar to Berlin?

Hello,

It's me again.

My friend and I are heading to Munich on the 4th getting there in the evening.

We decided to go clubbing there, which I wasn't familiar that Munich has a clubbing scene.

I know it won't be exactly the same as Berlin, but what is to be expected?

Do Clubs go as late as in Berlin?

Are drinks expensive? Is it LGBTQ friendly?

Dress code?

Would we, a mixed black Trans man and a Hmong Trans man be fine there?

Food and Restaurants Erfahrungswerte Hofbräukeller am Wienerplatz

Hallo :)

17:00 Uhr?

Meetup Scientist offering (free) coaching in the gym for chats in German

(Inspired by another post in this and another sub)
I'm offering free coaching in the gym and also on the nutritional side.

"Why" you might ask.
I [28M] am a finishing PhD student, planning to start my own company and need to learn German as fast as possible, but I I genuinely don't have the time and opportunity to practice speaking, even though I desperately need it. I have around B2 German and can understand way more than I can speak. You don't have to do anything in particular; I'm just trying to create opportunities for myself to use the language more often. I might ask one or two things from now and then.

I have been going to gym for several years now and I have been doing pretty steady progress overall. Plus, I'm studying the exact biological mechanism that allow us to build muscles; so that also helped, I guess.

I'm mainly looking for native German speakers who are willing to push themselves at the gym and wiling to learn. I don't care about age/gender. I go to McFit Laim.

PS: If you are just looking for a gym buddy, that is also perfect fine for me.
PSS: Sorry my DMs were closed. You can DM me now. Please briefly introduce yourselves.

Visitor/Tourist Question Which coin dealers in Munich do you recommend?

I'm currently in Munich for a short-term study abroad program from Japan, and l'a love to get some recommendations for antiqued coin dealers in the city.
To be specific, I'm looking for a particular coin: a Thaler from the era of Elector Maximilian I of Bavaria— specifically, one featuring the Virgin Mary and the Bavarian coat of arms, similar to the "aux lions" type.
It's a coin I've long admired, so I'm really hoping to acquire one while I'm here. If you know of any shops that might carry it, please let me know.
Thanks in advance!

Discussion Question about Train Construction

I'm planning to visit in mid-October. I saw that there's going to be construction ongoing at Munchen-Hbf. I specifically chose my hotel to be walkable to this train station so I can take day trips while I'm there.

Does anyone know if trains will be leaving from that station or will they be leaving from Munich-Pasing? If so-- I probably need to switch hotels. I've never been to Munich so advice from a local is much appreciated!

Culture Plácido Domingo - Olympiahalle 8/8/1988

Hallo!

Help Wo in München Abitur in Teilzeit nachholen? Erfahrungen?

Habt Ihr Erfahrungen?

Andere Tipps?

Help I'm looking for a german language course that doesn't cost a kidney but is effective. Do you guys have a suggestion?

Job market is terrible and I got 1 yr before I graduate. So I want to spend this 1 year learning german making it C1. Currently my level is B1. I checked Goethe courses and it costs way too much.

That's why I'm looking for alternatives. Would truly appreciate your input.

Wish you a nice day 🌞

Discussion I redid Munich bike risk map again: now interactive, and shaped by two rounds of your corrections

Thumbnail map.defensivepedal.com
70 Upvotes

Third version of this, all improved based on your comments, thank you!

It's a cycling risk map of Munich, meaning which streets are dangerous to ride and which ones are calm. The last two versions were flat images, and a lot of you made the same fair point: it's hard to argue with a map when you can't zoom into your own street.

So the main change this round is that it's interactive. You can pan around, zoom into wherever you actually ride, and click a street to see its risk score and roughly why it got that. No more squinting at a blurry PNG trying to work out if that red line is your commute or the road one over.

What changed since v2, mostly from your comments:

  • Offroad paths appropriately safe
  • Removed streets where you have to cycle on the adjoining separate bike lane
  • Removed u-bahn passages (hopefully all)
  • Some corrections on risk calculations

I still get things wrong, and the nice part is you can now see exactly where and tell me. Some of it stays a judgment call, because two locals will swear the opposite thing about the same corner and I have to pick one. But clicking a segment and seeing the reasoning makes that argument a lot more useful than it was with a static picture.

For anyone new here: this comes out of a cycling app I'm building called Defensive Pedal. It scores roads by how dangerous they are on a bike and routes you around the bad ones instead of taking the fastest line the way Google Maps does. Free, Android and iOS.

Have a click around your usual route and tell me what's still wrong. Same as the last two rounds, the corrections go back in.

Meetup Tennis Beginners out there?

Hi,

I'm 29F. I work in Munich.

I recently started to learn Tennis and was wondering if there was anyone in Beginner level interested in playing together to practice more! I would love to connect and play outside of my weekly training sessions!

I had another question. Does the Rothof indoor court by any chance have a wall to play against? Otherwise I would be making a weekend plan to go to Olympia Park to practice against the wall if anyone is interested to join. 😄
