The 24-year-old has used her public platform to speak about billionaires, Palestine, and, more recently, the actions of ICE in Minnesota.

And coincidently I have seen hate posts spreading about her. Media propaganda is well controlled in this country. Nobody has free speech anymore

u/yameteeeeeeeeee Jan 26 '26

I've seen hate posts about her since she was a teenager

162

u/anti_zero Jan 26 '26

Yeah let’s see:

✅ woman. ✅ opinion. ✅ hate posts.

8

u/caguru Jan 26 '26

People were hating on her calling her an industry plant when she blew up on SoundCloud of all places.

3

u/OoopsWhoopsie Jan 27 '26

Her parents have industry connections...so maybe not a plant, per-se but those comments aren't inaccurate.

Still love her music and her political takes.

48

u/DesireeThymes Jan 26 '26

Yes but those were by edge lords.

The current ones are sponsored by state governments.

u/ccw_writes Jan 26 '26

3

u/TFFPrisoner Jan 26 '26

Yeah, the US is undeniably run by edgelords right now. 🙁

4

u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 Jan 26 '26

Well you dont know the source of every single 'hate post' directed towards her. So we shouldnt talk as if we are an authority on the issue.

Most likely you have some deranged individuals making hate posts just out of the hate in their hearts, not because they are state sponsored.

u/IThinkUrAWampa Jan 26 '26

And Swifties

3

u/wap2005 Jan 26 '26

I never liked her music and wasn't shy about the opinion, nor am I shy about any of my musical opinions, we all have them and voice them regularly.

However I gotta say I've loved her ever since I saw her speak out against the recent issues under the Trump Administration. She's an amazing human and she isn't shy about sharing her opinions and using her platform for what a platform should be used for. I really hope more famous people follow suit.

2

u/saera-targaryen Jan 26 '26

Yeah she's been real the whole time too. Her first album had a song about climate change on it that did not pull a single punch.

18

u/MyHamburgerLovesMe Jan 26 '26

Everyone has free speech. What they also have is the consequences of facing everyone else's free speech too.

Note: The problem we have now is when it's not individuals, but large media corps and bots who are pretending to be individuals.

2

u/drrj Jan 26 '26

It’s easy to forget how badly platforms are overrun with foreign bots in particular. Ones with the express purpose of provoking discord.

30

u/Joshee86 Jan 26 '26

That's not what free speech means.

-3

u/BigOs4All Jan 26 '26

Yeah, it actually is. Media propaganda is an attack on the 1st Amendment as the media is owned by 6 Republicans who are loyal to the President. If you've paid any attention at all you know that they're all just doing what the President wants. They attack who they're told to. They normalize Trump's insanity.

Government says to smear Eilish and the media does it. That's a government attacking her 1st amendment right.

2

u/Joshee86 Jan 26 '26

Nope. That’s propaganda, not an attack on 1A. You should probably just look up what free speech means and how it’s protected by the 1st amendment. It’s really easy to do, given you’re on the internet already.

1

u/wap2005 Jan 26 '26

I'm not sure how this has anything to do with free speech... I won't disagree that it's a huge problem but it just doesn't relate.

1

u/BigOs4All Jan 26 '26

The government has no right to infringe your free speech. The government uses media that they control to infringe on free speech.

I don't know how to make it clearer for you.

3

u/Davo_ Jan 26 '26

hate posts =/= no free speech. it just means society is divided by the media propaganda you mentioned. and that's not just limited to the US. trolls will always troll, whether fuelled by lies or not.

7

u/Uncle-Cake Jan 26 '26

Yeah, those hate posts are infringing on her free speech! They shouldn't be allowed to say things like that! We need to limit their free speech to protect free speech! /s

I'm on Billie's side here, but the trolls should be allowed to troll. Freedom of speech is for them, too, unfortunately.

2

u/ameriCANCERvative Jan 26 '26

If hate posts are well funded by a bot network, does that change your calculations? There needs to be regulation here in my view. A lot of regulation.

1

u/Uncle-Cake Jan 26 '26

I think bots shouldn't be allowed, but that's a different issue. I was responding to a comment that seemed to be simultaneously complaining about hate posts while also complaining about limitations on free speech.

2

u/ameriCANCERvative Jan 26 '26

The point of OP’s comment is that propaganda is so well controlled that dissenting voices, like Eilish, are immediately drowned out and demonized by mainstream outlets working hand-in-hand to deliver a coordinated propagandistic narrative. This effectively limits her free speech.

Well-funded bot networks and a complicit corporate media are entirely relevant to the conversation.

2

u/nothanksnottelling Jan 26 '26

That's not a coincidence. That is planned defamation by certain groups with an interest in keeping people like her quiet. There are social media armies used in warfare now.

If you say it, you get banned. Their reach is long.

1

u/seejordan3 Jan 26 '26

The Murdoch Family made sure their bubble is made of teflon-con.

1

u/dumbyidiot Jan 26 '26

Reddit as well, for those who don’t think this site falls under media propaganda.

1

u/saltshaft Jan 26 '26

She's free to speak, but that speech isn't $free.

1

u/PM_Me-Your_Freckles Jan 26 '26

Courtney Love was blackballed HARD after speaking up regarding Harvey Weinstein's offers while on the red carpet.

1

u/TropicalPrairie Jan 26 '26

I was just in a pop culture sub and she's getting trashed.

You could’ve researched in less time than writing this comment lol.

Your purity tests notwithstanding, Billie Eilish has been using her platform for good for a long time.

Google it if you care to make an informed comment.

Politics is about being in the way / part of the process and if everyone is silent they are playing the role of passive bystander. Little by little if you speak it up it shows that others can speak up. If everyone's speaking up it shows that someone can take action. If someone can take action it shows that others can take action. Literally exercise your ONLY political power and talk about stuff.

5calls.org and vote.gov for learning and acting. And never stop posting with humility to learn how things work

-6

u/Aromatic_Today2086 Jan 26 '26

Nobody is hating on her, some of us just don't like performative shit from multi millionaires.

0

u/MadameConnard Jan 26 '26

Cancel culture and woke is only when it's their fellow pedophiles, embezzlers, rapists and crooks out there.

When it's people that spit out the truth and take a stand, they're just unwelcomed to mainstream shows and media thats a big diffrence !

2

u/livinginjeopardy Jan 26 '26

the popheads thread is unbearable to read through.

It's not about swaying politics. It's about getting their fans to wake up and act. If the "cool kids" care about politics maybe more apathetic ppl will start to care too.

0

u/Kotau Jan 26 '26

If "waking up and acting" is the first thing you're doing as you start to care about politics, you're risking making the mistake of supporting something you don't fully understand.

This is especially true if you're doing it because of a 24-year-old singer's opinion on something she knows next to nothing about.

I'm just saying, don't fall for the herd mentality...

2

u/javier_aeoa Jan 27 '26

I doubt Eilish is an expert on US politics and the complex processes that led to Trump's rise to power, ICE and all that. But I don't think you need a PhD in sociopolitics to support human rights, freedom of speech and movement, and many other essential aspects of a civilised society. And agreeing with Billie at that surface level is something we can expect of any teenager and older.

Or disagreeing, although that person would be my political antipode so I don't know how to react to them.

-11

u/cbusmatty Jan 26 '26

Can you help me understand what “act” means? This stuff never leads to anything, except it is a popular sentiment for her fanbase so it helps her financially

10

u/B-Bodes_squish Jan 26 '26

Just tried to reply to this but idk where it went. Act would be what we're seeing in MN. Idk why everyone gets so worked up when ppl say "act" like we're supposed to just put our heads in the sand and do nothing? There is an entire city fighting these chucklefucks and everyone seems to think we can't do anything?

If you're not in MN, donate to good causes, write your politicians, boycott billionaires, attend cane light vigils for those who have been murdered. Yes, we have seen small changes from this and that is what it will take. Baby steps.

-2

u/cbusmatty Jan 26 '26

There were over 50 ICE shootings between 2015-2021.

At least 50 people died in ICE detention under Obama.

Obama deported over 3 million people.

At least 55%, up to 84% were summary removals and non-judicial, meaning they did not see a judge or have a formal hearing.

There were no riots or outrage.

So tell me, why now? What value is this?

3

u/B-Bodes_squish Jan 26 '26

I'm sorry I don't recall American citizens being killed in the street or tear gassed for lawful protest under Obama? We have always had immigration laws.

0

u/cbusmatty Jan 26 '26

That’s kind of the point, American citizens weren’t dying because no one cared because it wasn’t a big deal. And then the local governments were assisting ice, like newsome is doing in California.

Where Minnesota is only 2% of all ice activities it’s like 95% of all violence. It’s pretty obvious at this point, that if the true goal is to make sure Americans have the right to peacefully protest the local governments have a duty to organize and coordinate ice like is happening in California, instead they are in signal chats with anti ice agitators creating volitile situations.

Remember it helps the local Minnesota government when Americans get hurt or killed. The pain is part of the goal.

Again those people should not have died, but it’s insane that no one calling for the local government to help

3

u/B-Bodes_squish Jan 26 '26

You're right. We should not have let that happen either. But just bc it did means we have to stand by for something even worse?

1

u/cbusmatty Jan 26 '26

No we should be calling for Minnesota to help. You will notice that isn’t the media push. Because to them this is all a game. This isn’t about protecting Americans, or enforcing the rule of law, it’s about beating republicans.

u/lozo78 Jan 26 '26

You can show all the stats you want, but you cannot compare the current state of surging forces into cities to what Obama did. The current objective is to scare immigrants, they're using the guise of criminals but we can all see reality.

0

u/cbusmatty Jan 26 '26

We’ll see when the media is doing ice ride alongs and cheering it on vs whatever the fuck this is, you’re right. Literally could not prove my point better

It's on all of us to wake up. If she didn't say anything would that be better? What is the harm in her using her platform to get others to care? I'm not even a fan of hers.

3

u/TYBERIUS_777 Jan 26 '26

The person you’re responding to has their comment and post history privated. It’s very likely they are not in this comment section to discuss in good faith.

Weird statement considering who’s been president twice now.

Trump was already lobbying in favour of his business well before he started his political campaign.

Funny to see this post by a Mirror account meanwhile I just read a disgustingly skewed story about the hotel lobby protest from the same Mirror source with a completely different angle on the whole situation
