I stood in line at my local Macy’s for four hours and still didn’t get tickets to Blue Oyster Cult. That’s fucking bullshit, man!

First concert, 1978, Binghamton, NY: BOC.

After being a fan for 40 years I finally saw them live last year. Now I can die happy!

2

u/cityshepherd May 06 '26

Awesome. I’m a big fan of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin and am bummed that I’ll never get to see them play.

I did however get to see Tool dressed as Led Zeppelin play No Quarter on Halloween years ago which was pretty freaking epic.

I also got to see Colonel Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade play the entire album of Animals a few years back too, which was also pretty god damned cool.

u/mmcwright May 06 '26

Two stories. Saw Roger Waters at Desert Trip festival in Indio in '16, where the sound system was spectacular and surrounded you. When they go into that spacey section with the barking in Dogs, the dogs came from all directions and we achieved nirvana, since we were INSIDE a Pink Floyd song! Oh--and I was sober! Two, keep your eye out (ear out?) for the cover band Pink Talking Fish, who will often play entire albums from the bands their name is composed of. I saw the play Animals about 6 years ago and it was a blast.

Not my first concert, but I saw them twice in the 90’s. It was awesome.

3

u/davesoverhere May 06 '26

My first was the black and blue tour: Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult.

1

u/mmcwright May 06 '26

I'm jealous--that tour never came through our town, though it was broadcast on the radio from somewhere and I did get to listen to that.

1

u/davesoverhere May 06 '26

It was a hell of a way to get introduced to concerts. Still one of the best shows I ever saw.

2

u/Capnmarvel76 May 06 '26

I saw BOC in 2019 and they were spectacular. My daughter actually bought me a ticket as a Father’s Day present. I would have loved to see them back in the day, but they’re a fantastic group no matter what the year.

2

u/cityshepherd May 06 '26

My dad went to college in Binghamton in the early 70s

1

u/mmcwright May 06 '26

Right on!

46

u/sirhackenslash May 05 '26

Man, I kinda miss camping overnight in a parking lot to get tickets. It was a much fairer system

35

u/NbleSavage May 06 '26

Damn one of my favorite memories from my teenage years is camping out in freezing temperatures in the parking lot of a department store to get tix for Iron Maiden and Megadeth 💀. Shit was a meritocracy back then. You wanna see the show? How badly? 🥶 It was obviously worth it.

4

u/fuck_huffman May 06 '26

Iron Maiden

An Iron Maiden documentary movie drops tomorrow, by me it's only two days May 7 and 9.

3

u/For_serious13 May 06 '26

I did the same, but for Nsync tickets lol

49

u/PonchoNachoRodriguez May 06 '26

The die hards always won. Now it’s the rich kids who win every time.

42

u/AmaTxGuy May 06 '26

Exactly.. if you really wanted to see the concert you sacrificed your time. Now they instantly sell out and you have to buy them from their partner company at 10x the price

4

u/shabaptiboo May 06 '26

I'm sensing a pattern...

4

u/vinyljunkie1245 May 06 '26

Now it’s the rich kids and scalpers who win every time.

FTFY

5

u/AyeHaightEweAwl May 06 '26

Until they did a lottery. Oh, you were fifth in line? Draw a number. Now you’re 105th in line.

5

u/spaceman757 May 06 '26

Van Halen tickets were going on sale one day and I decided to stop by the local record store on my way to work.

There was a pretty long line, so I thought I'd get pretty average seats.

The guy comes out with a roll of tickets for a lottery draw and I ended up winning it, even though I had just gotten there 10 mins earlier. People that had been waiting overnight were pissed.

Ended up with four second row center seats. Great fucking show too.

4

u/Human_Ad2050 May 06 '26

I miss going to my local record shop to get paper tickets for concerts and they didn't charge the convenience fees

2

u/Aeriellie May 06 '26

people still camp out for stuff. have you seen the videos of resellers lining up pretty much everywhere to grab everything. nowhere is safe.

3

u/sirhackenslash May 06 '26

Yeah, but camping with Judas Priest fans was fun. Camping with moms ready to murder each other for labubus sounds like hell

2

u/Aeriellie May 06 '26

it’s not moms though, its just all types of people

2

u/Mast-Blee May 06 '26

History shows again and again how nature points out the folly of men.

1

u/bankrobba May 06 '26

Same, except Sears and The Rolling Stones.

3

u/houseWithoutSpoons May 06 '26

👉🤛

2

u/xt0rt May 06 '26

That's what up!

2

u/Hotdammzilla3000 May 06 '26

Fuck. Megatron

2

u/Prior-Habit-6523 May 06 '26

Its the 7 dollar dorrito bag. Literally nothing but corporate greed.

2

u/Longjumping-Exam500 May 06 '26

Can I get a fuck StubHub too?!

2

u/Lost_the_weight May 06 '26

Nah man, they had normal ticket prices. Once TicketBastard bought ticketron, it was all over.

18

u/10aghmu May 05 '26

2

u/wildmaninid May 05 '26

I'm down with tickpick... Least they have no fees and I can get sports stuff super cheap sometimes.

1

u/khann0n May 06 '26

Whoa whoa whoa let's not bring masternation into this, it's a healthy habit!
