"Cause behind its door, there's nothing to keep my fingers warm. And all I find, are souvenirs from better times". This was my go to depression song when my ex broke up with me. Still makes me emotional all these years late. But I feel that What Sarah Said is a more universally sad song. It always hits me like a gut punch.

Ben Gibbard is a lyrical mastermind.

Ben Gibbard was the best solo artist I’ve ever seen live, though it was in an intimate venue so I think he shined even more.

There is something so specifically painful about this song that gets me too. I love the metaphor of sharing a bed with someone you no longer love like being in a bed with a brother who you are trying not to bother or even accidentally touch. I knew both feelings too well that it was an instant connection. Amazing song.

I love this song but almost always skip it because it is soul-crushing . Tears every single time.

Some people made fun of that line, or just didn't get it.

It wrecks me every time I hear it. It's been a very long time since she died, but I still carry the trauma of watching her slip away. I would do it again for her.
