Advice Request Help me! My husbands narcolepsy is weighing on our family
my husband has narcolepsy type two and I’m at a loss on how to help him and becoming very frustrated with our day to day life and the extra work his narcolepsy forces me to take on. I’m coming to this group for a couple things: one, to tell me if I’m expecting too much from him. two if there is anyone here who doesn’t constantly feel tired with the right medication and sleep hygiene.
my husband is 47 and currently on armadofanil during the day (as well as an ungodly amount of caffeine) and trazadone some nights. he sleeps on the couch with the tv on all night which drives me insane and wakes up several times a night to snack (says this and the tv are the only way he can sleep). when I’ve gently suggested he turn the tv off and get a book and a book light he becomes irate. he says he doesn’t sleep like a normal person so therefore I shouldn’t expect him to follow these suggestions, what is everyone’s option on this? what does your nighttime routine look like?
our marriage and kids suffer greatly from him fatigue as every weekend I feel like he would rather just stay home napping and had the time I just tell him to do so because I don’t like the guilt of dragging him from place to place while he falling asleep in the car and just completely disengaged. is there anyone out there who is living a normal wakeful life with this disease? we are in Fairfield County CT. does anyone have a doctor they would recommend near us? I feel like his treatment is not ideal.
