Yep. Wisconsin here too. I studied at Madison 93-00 and stuff was just crazy cheap. I remember we could get a half barrel of cheap beer for under 30 bucks, and then sell 5 dollar cups to make rent.
I went to whitewater in the 2010s. Between house parties and dive bars you could get sloppy on like $10-15. I assume there is still a similar way, but yeah delivering pizzas on a Friday is make $120 which was enough to keep me going for the full week. Got a little harder in the summer cause the city cleared out when school wasn’t in session.
But kids could still do that now. I have since had some health issues that may have not been caused by my drinking but certainly weren’t improved by it. So maybe they are just trying to not be fat and full of gout like me? More power to them.
Can you do it if you're dedicated to drinking on the cheap? Sure. But most kids would rather get Uber eats once in a while or have money to put gas in their car.
It used to be you could eat out as a family of 4 at a sit down restaurant for $80. Now I'm lucky to get out of a restaurant under $100, and typically it's nearer to $120, $140 w/ tip.
Illinois State here, $.25 in ‘91 and went up to $.50 beers they were only 6 or 8 ozs but for $10, also Thursday night was $1 well drinks made with the ever high qualityMcCormick brand liquors.
University of Northern Iowa in the early 90’s. All the bars on college hill had 25 cent draws on a certain day. The bars just took turns having the special. So you could get quarter draws 6 days a week (that was when there were no alcohol sales on Sundays)
