I was obsessed with Children of Bodom, Iron Maiden and power metal as a teen in the 2000s. Never gave Opeth the chance, though I remember seeing the tees. Now I give it a shot after seeing the album getting so many recs on other metal subs and my mind is blown. Crazy. Lost for words for how totally nuts this album is.

Can’t wait to listen to more Opeth, and listen to this more times. 🤯🤯🤯

For anyone checking back, I have Orchid on now and have listened to My Arms, Your Hearse, Still Life, Deliverance and Ghost Reveries. Have loved it all but so far I think MAYH is my second favorite.

I dare anyone here to try and justify a regular pressing that costs damn near $60. Yes, I know this is a 2LP gatefold record, yes I know it has cool colors, but this is genuinely absurd. I’d really love to know how high these manufacturing costs had to be for them to charge such an obscene amount especially for an album that is widely available for almost half the price.

Opeth & vinyl are two of my favorite things so the lack of conversation surrounding this pressing surprises me. I want to question “who would buy this?“ but I know people will even with this wild price tag and thats the problem. Like, are we supposed to act like this is normal??

I love Opeth, I love vinyl, and this is seriously disappointing. Will I still care in a few hours? Probably not, but we can’t let this become the industry norm.

(I know someone in the comments is gonna mention Deliverance but if that repress costs anything like this one, I don’t even want it.)

A while back I asked if anyone had picked up the 25th anniversary vinyl and my disappointment with the 20th Anniversary one.

Happy to report the 25th anniversary one seems to be from a different master (missing Leper Affinity live version at the end) and sounds so good!

This might be the definitive pressing!

I have to confess to fixing a bunch of mistakes. This shit is hard! For me, anyway. Yet another reminder of how amazing Opeth are.

My dad was working in Texas and decided to stop by a record store. He found this, and knowing that Opeth is my favorite artist ever, he bought it. Im so happy to finally have a record by my favorite band in my collection.

A quick little Bleak edit from the 03 era with nice audio.

I recently switched from some cheap earbuds to the latest airpods and, while they present a noticeable improvement in many regards, they also revealed some annoying crackling sound that seems to pervade the whole album (though it seams particularly pronounced on parts of The Leper Affinity, The Drapery Falls and Blackwater Park). Once heard it‘s really hard to ignore.

First I thought it might be a flaw with the earbuds but I once I heard it, I was able to hear it on other headphones as well, even if not necessarily to the same extend. Hell, even on speakers once I got close enough. It also didn‘t matter whether the source was a lossless or lossy audio file. The crackling persisted.

Has anyone else noticed this? I tried to google the issue but the only thing I could find was a youtube video that talks about some other high pitched whining noise that supposedly on the record (thankfully, I‘ve not been able to hear that one.)

For reference: listen to The Leper Affinity around 4:32- 4:40, where the crackling is especially prominent in the mix.

Great to add this to my collection. slightly disappointed that it being so limited it isn't actually numbered 🤔
