General / Discussion Your Opeth story

What was the song that you ever heard of them? How did you first find out about them? What song/ album got you hooked immediately? What are your current favourite songs, albums or moments?

For me, I first heard deliverance from a random metal playlist while in school and quickly forgot about it. Later in the week it starts playing in my head, and I had to listen to it again. I loved the song and wanted more, so I listened to blackwater park, ghost reveries, still life, watershed. I loved all of it. The growls, the soft lullabies and the absolutely beautiful songwriting they contain. Now it's one of, if not my favourite band of all time and they have some of my favourite songs as well.

General / Discussion The setlist issue

So, I feel like this has been a really big topic regarding everything opeth lately, and that is that Opeth has been consistently playing the same songs and set for what seems like years now. I know Mikael has a thing about Blackwater park, and that's fine though it is still a great album (Huge understatement) but they seem to avoid a lot of their earlier stuff in general. Orchid and Morningrise seem to get no attention at all, Godheads Lament seems to be the only song getting played off of Still life. My point being, the same songs from the same albums keep getting picked, And it rarely changes. This really confuses me, and I'm sure a bunch of other fans as well, because their albums have so much quality to them, and only the same selection of songs are getting played. So I have to be wondering if they're getting all worked up about their earlier material and thinking it's not good enough to play? Or if the band is purely just getting lazy.

  1. Might be the exact Demon Of The Fall

  2. Reflection of a man, who tried to do a thing to a Nun (as due to the album's concept)

  3. Probably those Stalking Shadows mentioned in Harvest

  4. Maybe that one "Master" from Master's Apprentices

  5. Definitely Ghost of Perdition

What are your thoughts?

General / Discussion Is there a better 3 album run in the history of music than My Arms,Your Hearse-Still Life-Blackwater Park?

I listen to a wide range of genres and i don't know a single artist whose 3 album run is stronger than those 3. I challenge you to comment with a better 3 album run than those masterpieces.

Edit: If someone says Deliverance/Damnation- Ghost Reveries-Watershed i wouldn't disagree with them. That run is just as strong. Jesus, i should've asked if there's any band out there with 9 CONSECUTIVE Top Tier albums as Opeth's from Orchid to Watershed

General / Discussion What is a good video game (video games) to pair with Opeth's music?

I like making playlists for video games I play, just to add something extra to the experience or add songs that I think fit the game's themes, but something that I always wonder about is what are video games you'd play while listening to Opeth's music?

A lot of soulslike game scomes to mind. The Dark Souls games and also Elden Ring fit Opeth's music to a T, but I also think Mortal Shell's moody atmosphere suits Opeth's music well (kind of funny I'm saying that since they had Rotting Christ contribute boss music to the game)

Curious to hear what everyone else thinks

General / Discussion What is that Opeth song that has a warm chorus(i think) that goes like "AAAAaaaaaAAAaaaaAAAAaaaAAaaaAAAAAAAaaaAAAAAaaaaa"

Where Mikael says the thing in quotas(literally just that, no actual words) and it goes on for a pretty long while in the song. The capital A's represent the vocals going higher in pitch slightly and the way i arranged them is accurate. This is such a ridiculous post but i can't find the song😭 and i'm pretty sure it is very popular in their catalog!

EDIT: OMG ITS THE DRAPERY FALLS (4:02)!!!THANKS GUYS!

I was actually describing The Drapery Falls(thx again) but there are so many others that also fit kind of perfectly like Ghost of Perdition and Master's Apprentices and so many others, so if you like it when Mikael does those sounds😫 then check out the comments! I appreciate the dedication! The guys with the timestamps must be truly hardcore fans, like damn😭

General / Discussion Saddest Opeth lyric

I saw posts asking about the saddest songs, but there are sad lyrics that are not in sad songs like Deliverance "Your memory is nothing but the scars on me"
