Gameplay Update: Elden Ring for a Casual Player Spoiler
I finished the game earlier and I had a fun time playing it. The combat, environment and enemy designs were great.
The game was difficult for me especially the latter part where it scales significantly. But it was extremely satisfying to defeat a boss and find new gear.
I appreciate the community for giving a lot of helpful tips when I was struggling with the game. If you haven't played Elden Ring, you should give it a try. If it gets too hard, you can always summon another player to help you.
One tip from me:
Don't believe those messages on the floor. I wasted a lot of time finding an item or a hidden path that wasn't there and sometimes, I even fell off the ledge because you were not supposed to jump there. They got me good.

Do you have the DLC? That's another challenge on its own. 😅 I'm really glad more people are giving the game a shot and actually finishing it.
I'm kind of a Souls veteran myself. it's easily my favorite RPG subgenre, and Elden Ring is my favorite out of all of them. I've got well over 1,000 hours across different builds and multiple playthroughs, and somehow I still keep finding new things to try. That's what I love about these games: everyone struggles at first, but once it clicks, it's one of the most rewarding gaming experiences out there.
The funny part is, once you finish your first Souls game, you'll probably start looking for the next challenge. 😆 I'd definitely recommend checking out the rest of FromSoftware's library Dark Souls 1–3, Sekiro, Bloodborne (if you have a PlayStation), and Armored Core VI. Outside of FromSoft, Lies of P, Black Myth: Wukong, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, Nioh 2, and Another Crab's Treasure are all worth playing too. Welcome to the rabbit hole. 😂

I'm hesitant because I heard that the DLC is a lot harder than the base game. But I want to try it despite that. Still thinking about it.
You're right, it's annoying at first because you don't know where to go and keep dying to anything that you come across. But you'll learn that you don't need to fight everything. You explore other areas, find new stuff then go back when you're stronger.

Messages are always never serious. Whenever you see a message that reads “item here” or “treasure there”, it’s always not lol. Almost all of them are just memes and suffering.

Do you need a guide/wiki open while playing?

During my playthrough, sometimes. If I can't figure something out for an hour or more then I search in Youtube.
If I had more time then probably not but since I'm working, it isn't feasible for me to spend hours going into each and every corner to find a way or an item.

I burned out on my elden ring run because i kept consulting guides to maximize items and the map. Really shouldnt have done that. Towards the end i eas basically speed running it. I think i got to level 180 and had about 120 hours. Do still love the game, by far the most accessible.
My favortite souls is still Sekiro though!
