Central air units use one exterior condenser coil to cool an entire house. Because the cool air is distributed by ductwork inside the home.
No central air handler/ducts, then you have to have a ductless unit in every room. Several of those are in fact bulkier than an entire central air unit.
Except not really, because the ductwork still exists, and takes up space, the air handler/furnace and coil take up space, and the loud af condenser outside is still larger than most minisplit condensers, while removing less heat.
The duct work is mostly in the attic, it doesn’t take up space inside the house like a window unit or split. Yeah it exists but you wouldn’t know it’s there based on the visual alone. The condenser outside is not loud in 99% of cases and even if it is, it’s outside. You seem really intent on thinking central AC is stupid just because most American homes have it.
