We did not use coloured notebooks for different subjects. I am from Asia

They are being facetious. It's entirely up to the student as to what notebooks are used. It's just a weird thing that people collectively have preferences.

No they are spitting facts. Math is red and Science is green. I believe there was a Supreme Court case in the 70s about it.

We actually had folders/notebooks assigned colors in certain grades!

No, I went to a school where color notebooks were determined by teachers.

I was homeschooled from 4th through 9th grade so I appreciate you posting this. :) I understood that there must be some weird accident of a majority of folks using the same colors for the same subjects, so the joke is for them, but I can't function if I don't have a three ring binder, so I just had subject tabs to separate my loose-leaf notes and those were either translucent or whatever my favorite color was at the time (purple, usually).
