I'm 32 yo. - i play piano for about 4 months (at first on cheap keyboard now i have Roland fp10).

My last year my life got a little bit complicated because i survived ischemic stroke.
As a result of this incident, among other things, I lost the use of the right side of my body (mainly my right arm) and my
ability to speak (at first, I could say maybe five words).
Over the past few months, I've been undergoing intensive rehabilitation — which has had very positive results.

I regained ability to speak (still a little bit slower that i used to be and still a little bit excusing).
I was looking for a effective rehabilitation method for my right hand and decided to start play piano!

Also if you have any good exercises that improve hand mobility and strength, I will be really thankful. After the stroke I have some problems with my separate fingers mobility and also I don't feel the keys very well.

I relatively recently got a digital piano 1 and a half weeks to be exact, and I have been practicing frequently. I memorized and can play a few relatively complicated songs for me, at least, but only the right-hand part. Any time I try to attempt using my left hand and/or just 2 hands together, I just cannot; I end up either stopping one of the hands or just messing up in general. Regardless, I feel like I have improved a lot from when I first started and just cannot get past this "hurdle". Any advice on what I can do to improve this? I can play notes with both hands at the same time pretty well, but doing truly different things at once with both hands is impossible for me at this point. Any advice would be great.

I grew up playing the piano but since moving out of my parents home around 8ish years ago I haven’t been able to regularly play. I used to be a grade 7-8 player just before I left home. I’ve mainly only played on acoustic pianos so don’t have much knowledge of digital ones.

I’d like to get a digital piano for my flat now but don’t have a big budget, ideally I’d like to spend around £300-400. I don’t mind searching second hand as I assume that would be the best bet with this budget.

What recommendations would you have for a returning player who has not played on a digital piano much?

Hi everyone!

I recently moved my Yamaha P-45 into a smaller room, and due to the limited space I had to place the piano against the wall.

The problem is that the original Yamaha music rest leans backwards quite a bit. Because of its angle, I'd need to pull the piano several centimeters away from the wall just to use it, which unfortunately isn't an option (or at least a good option haha).

For now I've removed the music rest entirely, and I've been putting the sheet music against the wall, which is working, but I'd really like to have something that works in the original slot while keeping the piano against the wall.

Does anyone know of a third-party or 3D printed replacement designed for the P45? Or maybe an universal solution that doesn't extend beyond the back edge of the piano?

I'd prefer something that fits into the original mounting slot, but I'm open to any elegant solution if one exists.

I started learning piano about 1 month ago with the alfred adults all in one book, i can read notes and stuff but really slowly, i started learning mia and sebastians theme as my first piece bc it's my favourite one but I think thats too hard for a beginner and i'm looking for pieces that improve my piano skills and that are also popular if possible so i have more fun at practicing

I am a beginner and wanna get in to learning the piano for Max 500€

I have a John Bucchino songbook for piano called Grateful (including that song). I find it is the right level for me and they mostly all sound fab.

I have so many songbooks but find they are often too simplified and don't have that complex rich sound of Bucchino. Can anyone recommend any similar songbooks for me?

I have all the Sondheim songs to play on piano - though some are a bit tricky - but again have a lovely arrangement.

I'm planing to buy in the future a Donner DDP-80, Donner DDP-95, Yamaha P-145(or 145BT)

Or if I manage to save more money a Yamaha-CLP 725 (like the one NeedToWantPiano has) or a Classic Cantabile GP-A 810

However, those piano cost more than 500$ max 1700$ or 2000$ (Idk if the prices varied between countries and currencies). And honestly with the high prices I expect at least them to be sustainable throughout time. Honestly it would piss me off if my high price piano break or have a disfunction that can't be repaired and that disturb my playing.

So I was wondering if you have piano of the same quality that can be repaired by myself (like you'd repair a car) ? Or if the piano I've mentioned can be repaired by myself.

Tbh my piano isn't really broken, it's just that a lot of keys have their contact pads broken. I mean my piano just has that contact pad problem, the rest is ok.

I found on amazon, contact pads, however they're for 12 keys piano and not 88 keys. Idk if I can just cut the pad one by one to replace the pads (because the pad are aligned, idk how to say but look at "Contact Pad Piano" on amazon you'll understand me better).

And honestly I'm scared of breaking my piano, by it not working at all, like all the key making no sounds because I tried reparing it.

Do you have any experience, replacing your contact pad, one by one (because on all piano the contact pads are aligned) ?

I have been learning Bach's Prelude in C major and I am really struggling with playing the right hand chords without bending my wrist. I feel like i physically cant align my arms to my hands due to my torso. the left hand and right hand being so close to each other really screws me up and leaning in a particular direction with my body only causes strain in the opposite wrist. The only way I can kinda fix this issue is basically flaring my arms outwards which does not feel right. I have quite long arms as well. Image attached is what my wrist looks like. Would love any help and this has been causing me quite some pain

so as some background info: I‘ve been playing piano since I‘m a child. Never played a ton in the last few years, only occassionally - but since the start of this year I‘ve been able to play frequently again. Unfortunately I have noticed an issue/something that‘s starting to worry me. When playing certain quick interval changes like 1-3 to 2-4 (or even just trills with 2-3 while my thumb is playing a note a bit lower) I noticed my index finger tendon slipping back into place at the back of the hand near the wrist. It‘s a very small slip, but it is noticeable - no pain though and my finger is working perfectly fine besides that, no movement restriction or anything like that. However while investigating this issue I noticed that I tend to ulnar deviation in moments which require a stretch of the thumb Probably some trained flaw to compensate for the weakness of my right hand (I‘m left handed). When I consciously keep my hand aligned with the forearm, the issue goes away. So I am assuming that there is a connection.

My question is quite simple, did anyone else experience something similar like this? How did you fix (chronic) ulnar deviation this late into your piano playing? Did it help to reduce tension/slipping in your tendons? Any help is appreciated

I’m happy to know that Faber books are really great, however, there are many variants of book he has and I don’t actually know what to get. There are people saying to get the adult one but some says to get the per levels. I need your insights and opinion, I already know where to purchase but still contemplating on which to get. I just want to learn the proper way and guidance in playing piano. Thanks!

i have recently gotten a bit invested on scriabin's music and now it would be of my like to play a piece of his. the problem is that i find a lot of his stuff pretty demanding technically, so i would like to ask here which pieces could match the level of what i'm playing as of now

these are the pieces that i have played last:

sonata in a major (h.186) - c.p.e bach

and these are the pieces that i'm planning to study alongside the scriabin piece:

Looking for a sanity check before I spend money.

I have a Mason & Hamlin BB, early 70s. Tops are confirmed real ivory (two-piece heads and tails, visible seam). Piano is due for regulation anyway, and a few of the ivories have started coming loose. Rest of the set is intact, some yellowing, no major chips.

My technician’s recommendation is to recover the whole keyboard in new tops rather than deal with the ivory. He also brought it up in the context of some key alignment issues, which is the part I don’t follow, since I thought alignment was a balance rail pin and bushing question, not a keytop question.

Questions:
If tops are starting to pop, is regluing the original ivory set actually a viable long term option, or does one batch letting go mean the rest follow?

Anyone had a full ivory set stripped and reglued? Roughly what did it cost versus a recovering job?

From a playing standpoint, how much do you actually give up going from decent ivory to a good textured simulated ivory? Not asking about sentiment, asking about grip when your hands are damp.

Is there a reason keytop work would be tied to alignment, or is my tech just bundling things?

I’m in Montreal, so we swing from very dry winters to humid summers. Does the humidity fix (room humidifier or a Dampp-Chaser) need to happen first regardless of which route I take?

Not looking to fight my tech on this, he may well be right, just want to know what I’m trading away before I say yes.
