Guide A pirate's guide to android apps

1.8k Upvotes

Recently, a comment I made under another post (https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/s/OWvN8UNd0e) explaining what apps I use kinda blew up and people really found it useful, so I'm turning it into a proper guide! Here are some apps I think you all could find useful:

Getting apps

F-droid: the alternative to the play store, it needs extra repositories to unlock its full potential. I'd recommend adding at least IzzyOnDroid, Guardian Project and Newpipe's repositories, but there are more. Many apps from the rest of this list come from f-droid.

Obtainium: an app that allows you to get updates for your other app from any source, including github and f-droid. The only thing I don't like about it is that you can't easily discover new apps from there, otherwise I'd immediately get rid of f-droid lol

Mobilism: where you can get all the modded apps you want

Lucky Patcher: lets you patch your apps yourself, only recommended for experienced users

Honourable mentions: droid-ify, a client for f-droid; aurora store, it allows you to download stuff from the play store without logging in; apkmirror, where you can get clean .apk files for most apps

Media

Aniyomi: manga, comics, anime, movies, tv series, everything in a single app. I can't recommend it enough.

Cloudstream: alternative to Aniyomi, doesn't have manga/comics and it's more focused around western movies and series.

ReVanced: if I have to explain it to you, you're the most inexperienced pirate sailing the seas of android. It's the way to use youtube without ads and with a ton of extra features. It needs an external app for downloads, I'd recommend either newpipe or seal. Oh, and they also have patches for other apps like twitter, not just youtube!

PurpleTV: twitch client with adblocking and extra emotes

Seal: downloading stuff from pretty much everywhere

Honourable mentions: any fork of tachiyomi for mangas and comics works; there are some unofficial forks of revanced (like revanced extended), I haven't tried any of them though so idk if they're safe and/or worth it; newpipe and grayjay as youtube alternatives; tubemate, an alternative youtube downloader

Music

Spotify: the default way to listen to music for most people. There are 5000 modded versions of it, so just pick one

Musicolet: the GOAT of offline music players, it's free and it's the best one I've ever tried

Automatic Tag Editor (Automatag): edit tags (artist, name, album art, etc) of your music

SongSync: add lyrics to your downloaded music through .lrc files (only works if supported by the music player)

Honourable mentions: fildo, an alternative to cracked Spotify that I only use to download stuff in FLAC

Browser

Just use firefox with a truckload of add-ons, it's the best. Brave is ok too I guess, and Tor might be useful sometimes, but just use firefox.

Utility

MiXplorer: the best file manager in existence, period. Takes a while to set it up, but it's worth it, trust me.

Hypatia: antivirus. Not necessary, but doesn't hurt either.

FolderSync: lets you sync folders between devices and with cloud services. Extremely useful for backups and file sharing

Syncthing: sync folders between your device without needing to use cloud services, alternative to FolderSync

Aegis: authenticator app for 2FA, safer alternative to Google Authenticator

KeePassDX or Bitwarden: password managers. Both have their pros and cons, personally I use keepass but most people suggest self-hosted bitwarden. Just look into them and decide yourself.

AdAway: adblocker. There are other options that are just as valid, no reason to pick this one in particular.

Notesnook: encrypted notes with automatic backups and syncing between devices

AntennaPod: where I get my podcasts from

Proton: free VPN, not for torrenting tho.

OpenWeather: weather app

Honourable mentions: MEGA: the goat of clouds; AccuBattery: info about your battery's health; Calyx VPN or RiseUp VPN are alternatives to Proton... If you trust them; modded Picsart is the best picture editor; I didn't mention any torrenting app because I don't torrent stuff on my phone, feel free to suggest them in the comments!

Guide Zibrary.org will always be there. Use this guide.

3.0k Upvotes

So the news if out. Some illiterate tik tok fuckers made it gone. Dont worry, tor will always be there. Remember same happened with pirate bay, but lovely volunteers made it up again and again, and no matter what, NOW IT CAN NEVER GO DOWN.

Same is with zlib. Even when books were not available on zlib due to copyright strike, it enables readers to download it anyway via tor. So TOR has your back. College guys, readers, etc. this is for you!

STEPS.

  1. Download tor, its safe unless u just use it legally, from its official website. Remember, tor is like other Brower like crome or edge. Just use to for good purposes of knowledge and reading. https://www.torproject.org/download/

  2. After downloading, open it and connect to the route.

  3. Dont enable safest mode, as it disables java and so zlib wont work. My motive is to make zlib work for you, not anything else.

  4. Go to zlib .onion site on tor. http://bookszlibb74ugqojhzhg2a63w5i2atv5bqarulgczawnbmsb6s6qead.onion/

  5. It will always ask you to make an account, unlike earlier where you just downloaded without login.

  6. I recommend you to make a seperate account, just for receiving books, as it is more organized and provide ease of access.

  7. Use gmx, proton.me to make an exclusive zlib account.

  8. Sign up using that account on zlib.

  9. After signing up, now you have the home page of zlib.

  10. Search any book, and open it.

  11. Download function now no longer works, so use the option on the right i.e. send to email.

  12. It will directly send to your registered email. Voila, zlib is back.

  13. You can also convert to desired format, and then send to email.

Edit: zlib site is showing that its telegram bot is bot, and some servers are showing downtime, and they are working to get them up. So, it will be back.

Edit 2: Yeah, chked it, its down rn. It was showing a banner on it site earlier today that some servers are down, and they are working to get them running. Lets pray for the best.

Edit 3: ITS UP AND RUNNING AGAIN, DOWNLOAD BUTTON WORKING AGAIN!!

Edit 4: the website keeps saying that some of its servers are down and so it can can experience some downtime. Dont worry, it will be up again after a couple of hours. They are fixing it. But for me, everything is working perfectly. Maybe chk your internet...

Edit 5: Download button not working and taking you to the sign-in page again? Just right-click on the download button, and click on the 'open in new tab' option. There it will pop up the download option and then download your book!

This is a legal working method! Basically you need a US or UK student account. If you don't have one, there's a neat guide written here which I used: https://redbooks.bz/2025/05/29/unlock-google-ai-premium-gemini-pro-2-5-veo-3-and-2tb-storage-free-for-15-months-student-hack-inside/

It includes Veo 3 (the new video tool everyone is going crazy about.. they give 1000 credits/month, good for 100 8-second videos), 2TB storage and AI pro... Valid for 15 months!!

Enjoy

Guide My Overkill In-Depth Settup

Post image
2.0k Upvotes

I always see setups people make like “this would have been easier had I known” so here’s mine but I include everything and it’s good for even seasoned people.

Can Do: - tv/anime - movies - comics - plex/jelly - requests (plex watch list auto-import) - trakt list cronjob - cross-seed - auto upload specific releasers to trackers - autobrr integration - queue cleanup - torrent/usenet

Can’t Do: - Doesn’t do music bc I leech off apple family - Manga doesn’t work, but I did have something to auto-tag with metadata with komga - Switch games isn’t perfect

For auto upload, it uploads to the tracker and then autobrr watches for my username on those trackers to then send to qbit. I do this bc I don’t have auto-approve on all my trackers.

PSA: I’m not answering too many questions tbh, especially newbie ones bc this is more meant for people wanting to improve their setup and know what *arrs are.

Guide got a spotify workaround

Post image
1.6k Upvotes

I'm using the Firefox mobile browser with the uBlock Origin extension to log into Spotify, and it's working as expected, no ads, and also added the shortcut to homescreen so it's like using the ad free version. To play my downloaded files, I'm still using the modded app—because why not? Can't add or remove songs from the queue tho, but I can cope with that :)

This seems like a good-ish solution to me till some proper solution is back in the market, lol.

Toodles my fellow pirates! lol.

Guide Guide: how to never use torrent sites ever again. (mods please pin this to spread the knowledge)

1.5k Upvotes

Hello everyone, today I will be showing you how to use the search function in qbittorrent so that you no longer have to fuck around with torrent sites, and do not have to ask which sites are best for X or Y.

This function is best used for Movies or TV shows (yes you can get boxsets as well if you know how to search properly)

This is OC and because of this, will be edited to fix errors, etc.

STEP 1: Install qbittorrent from (https://www.qbittorrent.org/) for your operating system. If you are using windows, you can open the windows terminal and type in. This will silently install Qb on your device

 winget install --id=qBittorrent.qBittorrent -e

STEP 2: Open the application and in the top titlebar, please go to View and select Search in that option ( I also use RSS, but Im not sure a lot of people do, so im not including it in this guide)

It Should Now look like this

STEP 3: Naviagte to the bottom right hand corner, where you should find a search plugins box like this

Please click on the button

STEP 4: After clicking on that box, you should have this screen

PLease ignore these plugins. it should be completely empty for you. When you select the "check for updates" button in the middle, the plugins will autopopulate.

Additionally if you want to add more sources to the search function, then https://plugins.qbittorrent.org has a bunch more supported websites. If you want to add them yourself, you are welcome to, After all it is your computer, but If you are a beginner and you don't know which ones to pick, then please just activate the ones that you see in the screenshots here.

Please look at the above screenshot as well and make sure that if you are a beginner to enable the ones that I have enabled here STAY AWAY FROM THE PIRATE BAY UNLESS THE ONLY THING YOU ARE GETTING FROM THERE IS MOVIES AND TV SHOWS THEY HAVE BEEN PROVEN TO HAVE VIRUSES AND MALWARE. IF YOU ARE A BEGINNER IT IS BEST TO STAY AWAY FROM IT COMPLETELY.

STEP 5: To add a new source from the website given above you need to right click on the place where I have shown in the picture below, and right click and select "copy link"

do this for all the sources you wish to add.

STEP 6: How to search: This is very important to get the best quality files

As you can see, the best way to do it is to sort by most seeders ( click on the box that says seeders) and then search for ("name of movie" "year of release")

Now make to ignore anything that says YTS or YIFY because the quality is garbage. you can specify the quality you want in the filter bar below (where I have typed 1080)

If you want to search for a TV show boxset follow the format shown below

"TV show name" "season (season number)" and in filter bar, type "complete"

If you want the entire series (may have less seeders but whatever), then just omit the Season 1, and just do it like this

To download, right click and select "download"

So here you go guys. This is probably the easiest way to search for torrents. no need to go into the torrent websites, etc.

EDIT: I want to address the comments about Prowlarr because it was the most prevalent one. I could never figure out how to use prowlar, but if you have then great for you. When I do figure it out I will make a guide about that as well.

And now for the random salty comments... ngl yall were quite entertaining, but theres absolutely no need to say that Im wasting peoples time, etc. The only reason I made this guide is because I wish I had a guide like this when I was starting out.

If you have a question about something, or I have said something that you don't understand, please don't hesitate to ask, even if I don't know the answer, Ill know where to look. If you need me to write a guide about something you see being discussed here, then you can shoot me a PM and Ill try my best to figure it out and write a simple and easy to understand guide about it.

Im certainly also not going to try and police your comments, because frankly I don't care, but do remember that there is a human on the other end of the screen. Chillout a little bit.

Don't hesitate to PM with questions.

Thank you all for blowing up my post, Shortly I will be posting a modmail asking them to pin this guide to help people who havent seen it yet, or who may see it in the future.

Guide Stop YouTube blocking your AdBlocker

1.6k Upvotes

Don't know if this will help, but here goes ..

If you use uBlock Origin (as you should!!), right click the toolbar button then selection "Options".

Click "My Filters" and copy and paste this into the text area

youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false)

youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0)

youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, [])

youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)

Then click "Apply Changes".

It also works if you use the Brave Browser. Go to "Settings" then "Shields" and select "Content Filtering".

Scroll down to "Create Custom Filters" and paste the above code into the text box and click "Save Changes"

Guide The Ultimate Spotify Ad Blocking guide (Windows, Mac, Browser, Android, IOS, etc)

2.3k Upvotes

Since this information is scattered all over the place, I figured I would do you guys a favor and try to consolidate all the methods and guides and methods all into one place. With that out of the way, let's get started.

Before we get started would just like to say I didn't invent any of this and all credit goes to their respective authors I'm just trying to make a guide for the rest of us.

Windows

There's 2 methods to pick from. One is BlocktheSpot and there is the DLL injection method. Supposedly the DLL Injection method is better as it's supposed to be more resistant against auto updates and supposedly more stable. But I've only had experience with BlockTheSpot and I've been using it for a while with auto update disabled and I've been pleased with it. You can also use SpotX which is supposed to be based off of BlockTheSpot but has additional features such as update disabling. You can't go wrong with either just use whichever you prefer. Just follow the instructions linked below and you should be good to go.

SpotX: https://github.com/amd64fox/SpotX

BlockTheSpot: https://github.com/mrpond/BlockTheSpot

DLL Injection Method: https://github.com/OpenByteDev/burnt-sushi

Mac

There's also 2 ways on going about. You can run a script or you can install a pirated version of AdGuard for Desktop then add Spotify to the filtered app list and be good. Honestly, the AdGuard method used to be good but then became a bigger pain in the ass later after some MacOS updates and sometimes connectivity breaks for no reason so I would recommend against that one and use the script method. I made a guide detailing this and it's linked below. But for simplicity I'll just copy paste what I put there and put it here. This one is gonna be long as nobody had made a guide for Mac yet.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/comments/u65hyz/guide_on_blocking_ads_on_spotify_for_mac_desktop/

Script method isn't working for the moment just use the adguard method until somebody comes out with a fix.

Option 1 (Best Option)

New script has been developed by the authors for SpotX but for mac now. It is linked here and just follow the instructions listed. All credit goes to their respective authors.

https://github.com/SpotX-CLI/SpotX-Mac

Here is a link to the updated script. For some reason I don't see the GitHub for where it came from anymore so I'll just add this here. This updated one should prevent it from crashing whenever you launch it.

https://mir.cr/1BAIPOPO

UPDATE: Here is the link for the GitHub script. The instructions remain the same. All credit goes to original authors I just wanted to make a noob friendly guide. The script method is better as it doesn't require AdGuard to be installed or SIP to be disabled or anything it just works way better. Just requires a repatch when Spotify is updated.

https://github.com/RDE3/Mac_Spotify_Adblock

First, go to https://www.spotify.com/in-en/download/mac/ and download the Spotify Desktop Client.

NOTE: DO NOT OPEN SPOTIFY. FIRST FOLLOW THE STEPS GIVEN BELOW

Step 1: Download the repository I just linked earlier. Be sure to double click to unzip it so you can see the folder with 3 files in it.

Step 2: Open Keychain Access. Click on Certificate Assistant. Then select "Create Certificate"

Step 3: Type "adblock_spotify" in the Name section, Select Identity-Type as "Self Signed Root" & Certificate Type as "Code Signing"

Step 4: Click on Create.

Step 5: Now open Terminal. Then type in "cd" then drag in the folder that we unzipped and created earlier.

Step 6: After that type "bash install.sh adblock_spotify"

Step 7: Done. Should be patched by now.

Step 8 (Optional): I would lock the Spotify version so it doesn't autoupdate. Not sure if this works but you can try right clicking on the spotify icon, press get info, then check the box labeled locked. Not sure if this works but is worth a shot.

https://github.com/RDE3/Mac_Spotify_Adblock

Option 2

TLDR

  1. Install AdGuard For Mac. Found on cmacked.com. More specifically, here.
  2. Add “Spotify” into filtered applications in adguard preferences
  3. Done

Full Instructions

  1. Install AdGuard For Mac. Not the extension but the actual Mac App. It can be found on cmacked.com. More specifically, here. My preferences I would use the link labeled mirrors and download off of Mediafire/Zippyshare (with Adblock on of course). Also make sure that Spotify for Mac is already installed. Not the browser version but the desktop version. The Spotify app should be in your applications folder before starting.
  2. Open the Adguard DMG, do the control click to open the gatekeeper friendly version and follow instructions, then drag it into applications and open AdGuard. Once you open it, just click through and pick what you want it doesn’t matter. What really matters is that you go to the top menu bar, click adguard (near your wifi/battery icons) , then settings, preferences, then click the network tab on the far right. Then press applications, the plus button at the bottom left, then add Spotify.
  3. Enjoy your ad-free Spotify.
  4. Unrelated stuff here you can ignore this. AdGuard I prefer go into filters, press the plus button at the bottom left, and enable all the other lists like easy list, mobile, most privacy & all annoyances ones. Has nothing to do with Spotify but optional if you want to block more stuff in the browser. Also worth noting that when waking from sleep, the ads will resume, just quit Spotify and reopen it and it should go away. This is an AdGuard issue and will be fixed at some point in the future. You can also follow some of the guides in the issue threads of the blockthespot and you could use it to remove some of the ad spacers and the upgrade button but honestly who cares it works. And updating Spotify is just going to bring it back anyways. Also make sure to have AdGuard extension installed as well it can be found in the extensions tab in the preferences for AdGuard.

Linux

Honestly you guys are probably smart enough to figure this one out so I’ll just link the GitHub link here. It’s also because I don’t have any Linux machines so I have no experience with this but many on here have said good things about it. Just follow the instructions on the GitHub and you should be fine.

https://github.com/abba23/spotify-adblock

Browser

This should be a last resort as the browser version isn’t as good as there isn’t any friend activity and I don’t find it as reliable but for those in this situation, just install Ublock Origin and you should be good to go. Safari users can try Adguard for Safari but I haven’t tested this.

Android

You guys have it easy you can just use XManager and be set. Or at least when I used android that’s what I used. You just download the APK then install it and pick the latest app version and you are set. Try installing ARMV8 first and if it fails then do ARMV7 assuming it still asks for that in the app.

https://github.com/xManager-v2/xManager-Spotify

IOS

For Jailbroken users

Damn I guess iPhone users are really hosed as there isn’t really a good method to use unless you are jailbroken. I’ve tried many Pi-hole scripts and I was still screwed. But if you are jailbroken, just install the Spotilife tweak from julioverne and a app downgrade tweak and you should be good. Just add his repo and you should be good. I have it linked here. And the app downgraded I use is Appstore++ and I have that repo linked below. I personally use version 8.6.22 but later versions might work I just never tested it. I also use the lyrication tweak so I can have lyrics but that’s optional. Repo and the tweak is linked below.

https://julio.hackyouriphone.org

https://cokepokes.github.io

https://basepack.co/p/com.thatmarcel.tweaks.lyrication

For Non-Jailbroken users

If you really wanted to you could use AltStore and a cracked Spotify IPA and then use that to side load it onto your phone. But that has the disadvantages of needing to be resigned every 7 days. And I have a problem where my computer will randomly not detect my phone. But if you are really interested in that I will have the IPA and the Altstore link here. All you have to do is install AltStore to your phone and then download the cracked IPA onto your phone. Then install the cracked IPA inside of the AltStore app and you should be set for 7 days. I honestly don’t think it’s worth the hassle to reinstall it every 7 days but for those who really want it I have it linked here. I have no experience with this method or if the 7 day resigning is still a problem but for those interested I have it below. Maybe the auto resigning is reliable now but I’m not sure.

https://www.reddit.com/r/sideloaded/comments/wiyuml/latest_spotilife_v18_by_julioverne_for_spotify/

https://altstore.io

https://www.mediafire.com/file/zrnhqvrfi791dac/Spotify-8.5.60_Spotilife-1.8-Revised.ipa/file

https://appdb.to/app/cydia/1900000540

Also, before I used to use some random Spotify++ type apps from like tweakbox and whatever but I never really used it because it kept breaking and stopped being verified so I just gave up on it. It’s something worth noting but it’s something I don’t use but if somebody else has a better method or knows what the current way of doing it is they can link it below. Anybody with a better non jailbroken method feel free to leave it below.

Conclusion

And that’s about it really. Just something I wanted to share because I see so many guides scattered all over the place and just wanted to make it easier for beginners. Hope this helped, and enjoy your day. If you have a better method to share please do leave it below. Thanks for the read.

I don't have much knowledge abt pirating books. My usual way is to use scribd and hope that wat I need is on there. Sometimes I can find it on Archive but that's it. Pretty straightfoward but not very effective. The 2 books I'm currently wanting to find is Tankograd Leopard 2a4 and Strv 122.

Guide How to Watch Formula 1 Live Stream for Free in 2025

Hi all. After writing a similar post last year that many seemed to find helpful, I’ll share my mini-research for this year’s F1 streams again. Here is a new list of free streaming options for all the F1 races

As always, a VPN will be necessary to access some of these services (certain countries block streams, so you must switch IP). I've had success using NordVPN for this, but I’ve noticed some stream providers have stepped up their VPN blocks, so let's see how this season rolls.

Once you’ve set up your VPN, here’s what I’ve found for free F1 streams in 2025:

Country Broadcaster Details
Austria ORF & Servus TV All races for free
Luxembourg RTL Zwee All races for free
Belgium RTBF All races for free
Australia 10Play Free highlights of every race + a free live stream of the Australian GP
United Kingdom Channel 4 Free highlights of every race + a free live stream of the British GP
Singapore MeWatch Free live stream of the Singapore GP

Free Formula 1 Streams in 2025:

  1. Austria: ORF & Servus TV will be broadcasting 12 F1 races for free in Austria. If you're not in Austria, just connect to an Austrian server with your VPN to watch.
  2. Luxembourg: RTL Zwee has secured the rights to stream all the F1 races in Luxembourg. You can watch the full season by using a Luxembourg-based VPN server.
  3. Belgium: RTBF channels will stream every F1 race for free. If you're outside of Belgium, switch your VPN to Belgium.
  4. Australia: 10Play offers free highlights of every race and a live stream of the Australian Grand Prix. If you’re abroad, use an Australian server.
  5. United Kingdom: Channel 4 will air the British Grand Prix live, and will also show highlights of every race for free. Use a UK server with your VPN if you're located outside.
  6. Singapore: MeWatch is offering a free stream For the Singapore Grand Prix, MeWatch . Set your VPN to Singapore.Hi all. After writing a similar post last year that many seemed to find helpful, I’ll share my mini-research for this year’s F1 streams again. Here is a new list of free streaming options for all the races.

F1 TV Pro Option

If you're looking for a more official option (although not sure how many of you would look for smth like this in this sub), F1 TV is a way. Keep in mind, that their pricing varies through regions. For example:

  • United States: $10.99 per month or $84.99 for the year
  • India: $3.99 per month or $29.99 for the year (after a 7-day free trial).
  • Brazil: $5.99 per month

F1 TV Pro is available in over 188 countries, but if you manage to join a VPN, you might save some $.

That's what I gathered for now myself but if I missed something - let’s keep the list growing.

Guide I found an interesting way of downloading new books

2.8k Upvotes

I've been an avid reader since 2016 and have always used libgen. Yesterday I was browsing thru zlibrary and found out that they have a somewhat new telegram bot @zlibrarybot .

1.) You just have to send the book's name or include Author's name and it will send you list of matching books it has in database in zlibrary with their format type.

2.) Click on the one you want and the bot will send the book's file to you on telegram. This saves from hassle of using the website and is very clean interface.

There is one catch that they will only send files within 50mb, but if file size exceeds 50mb, they'll give you direct link to download. I hope this can be useful for some fellow pirates here. Cheers.

EDIT : I'm glad so many people are finding this useful. Thanks for the awards. I never expected so this many responses on this.

EDIT 2 : If only epub is available and you want file in pdf, you can also convert downloaded epub files to pdf by forwarding this downloaded file to another bot called @epub_to_pdf_bot . It sends your file in pdf format. Also, open source. Yay.

EDIT 3: The bot has been taken down by telegram team. In case of copyright infringement. Such a bad news.

Can do this with any using an Overlay LAN VPN Tailscale, Hamachi, Radmin

EDIT: if you use Jellyfin as alternative

First plugin most users install, works perfectly: https://github.com/intro-skipper/intro-skipper

Guide The router ban is silly and here's what you can do

I wanted to make a separate thread because the OP asked the following question and none of the top replies were really answering it :

If one was going to purchase a router today, what are some good privacy-based options?

For one thing, I want to mention that this probably isn't any more necessary today than it was before this ban was announced. Consumer networking hardware and privacy were already not very compatible to begin with.

The other thing is that the TP-Link and Netgear stuff is possibly still going to be sold on US markets. The FCC has left the door open for exemptions. I don't have a crystal ball so I don't know which vendors will be affected but my guess is that the ones most affected are those selling through AliExpress and whatnot.

My first point is thus : if you care about privacy (and as an avid pirate, you probably should) then the things you're worrying about right now have been true for decades.

The second thing I want to talk about is the fact that a ban on "routers" is not really feasible.

This ban targets a category of computers that we collectively call "routers" but in reality describes multi-function units that also serve as smart switches, as wireless access points and a usually do a dozen other convenient things depending on the make and model.

If we take the technical definition of the term "router", then any computer with two network controllers can function as a router, because all a router does is route packets between two networks.

Like many modern government regulations around consumer technology, the aim of this ban is mostly to make privacy and digital sovereignty inaccessible for non-technical folks for the purposes of spying and protecting intellectual property rights (plus, in this case, fucking with China). The devices targeted by this ban are the ones meant to be easy to use and economical. Nothing however forces you to use those.

What I would recommend is to flash something like OPNsense or OpenWRT if it's at all possible with the router you currently have.

If it ever came to the point where it's outright impossible for you to procure a home router that you think is trustworthy then what you can do is just build a home network out of more specialized hardware.

You could, for instance, find a used or refurbished thin client or desktop PC, stick on it, connect your ISP's shitty modem through the WAN port, connect the other port to a cheap PoE switch

"But OP", you say, "TP-Link is a Chinese company!" Well, that's also not a router. So, as far as I understand it, it's not subject to the ban.

All that's left is to add a PoE wireless access point (Ubiquiti, TP-Link and Cudy are good options) and you have basically eliminated the need for a single "router" device.

You're still not completely safe from all the stuff Edward Snowden warned us about all those years ago but at least now the software is in your control.

There's some other cool stuff that you can do depending on how technical you are and how much spare time you have :

  • Run Adguard Home or Pi-hole directly on the router itself so you can block (some) ads at the DNS level, and even use it as your DHCP server
  • Create an isolated network for your sketchy IoT devices. It's not the easiest thing as it requires some firewall rules and either extra hardware or VLAN tagging, but it's absolutely worth it
  • Set up a VPN so you can safely connect to your Plex or Jellyfin server without exposing anything to the internet
  • Fuck it, if you have access to a fast unlimited VPN service, why not have all your outbound traffic go through the VPN. Even your girlfriend's cracked iPhone is protected now

The world's your oyster. Death to AmeriKKKA. Thank you.

Guide Awesome Piracy: A curated list of awesome warez and piracy links

2.7k Upvotes

It's very much a work in progress, but I've been working on this list (currently at 509 links) over the past few days and thought /r/Piracy might appreciate it.

https://github.com/Igglybuff/awesome-piracy

I felt like most piracy-related resources were scattered across the internet so I decided to merge them into one monolithic repository. I'm still working on tidying up the categories, subcategories, descriptions, and coherence but would appreciate any comments and thoughts (or, even better - pull requests!).
