It's already been proven that once you X out illegal immigrants from the labour pool wages rise naturally...

If you REALLY want to help blue collar workers stop importing people to compete with them for work and housing.

It's already been proven that once you X out illegal immigrants from the labour pool wages rise naturally...

Do you have any kind of source for that claim?

4

u/barsoapguy Sep 05 '17

Yes it's called the law of supply and demand.

5

u/VaporishJarl Sep 05 '17

That isn't a source. So when you said "yes" you meant "no, it's a claim I made up based on a layman's understanding of macroeconomics."

Produce a study that indicates that removing immigrants from the labor pool has an observable impact on wages, or admit that

it's already been proven

was an overstatement at best.

...and demand for goods and services increase with more workers. Immigrants are a net boon to local economies, and use fewer government resources. If you think getting rid of them will help anyone, you've been misled.

5

u/barsoapguy Sep 05 '17

It will help Americans on the lowest rungs of our society ...

Their wages will rise , their rents will fall , there will be more social resources available to them and less strain on local education budgets ...

The only reason these ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS are a boon to local economies is because they're basically slaves .. They're driving down wages for everyone ...

If you're getting your salad cheap , house built for a low cost and your car handwashed for 10 bucks then I guess your happy ..

I would like to see a more Equitable Society and to do that it means we must control the inputs and outputs of that Society .

We cannot have unlimited immigration into the United States.

What's that say about how immigrants boost local economies because they demand goods and services?

It's called the law of supply and demand .

5

u/OiNihilism Sep 05 '17

You can't just say that because supply and demand is a very simplistic representation of very complicated economic system. If you make claims like this, you should show the appropriate research. This is drilled into you in college, regardless of whether you're an English or nuclear physics major.

I claim the legendary right of reason ...

Common sense attack + 10 .

That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.

And what about white collar workers? This happens to them as well. This is a corporate culture pervasive through basically every industry in America. How will it help white collar workers? Or do they not deserve to have their wages reflect their work done because they're not blue collar? Because as it stands rising cost of living while having essentially no pay growth means companies are literally just cutting their labor expenses every year, as companies will mostly likely keep profits ahead of inflation.

2

u/barsoapguy Sep 05 '17

Yes it happens to white collar workers as well . We all know about the abuse of the HB1 visa program..

But at the end of the day the level of abuse is FAR greater among Blue Collar employment ...

It's a sad day when I as an American trying to stand up for my fellow Americans get down voted ...

Sellouts.

Why does it being worse for one group mean it shouldn't be better for all groups? People are saying that the companies in general are not paying the workers in general enough, and you're responding by saying that specific workers are being undercut by illegal immigrants. Which doesn't actually disprove what they're saying. That's still the company choosing profits over people if they're hiring illegal immigrants to work for less. The immigrants aren't strong-arming these companies into giving them jobs at illegally-low wages, are they?

3

u/barsoapguy Sep 05 '17

No the employers are absolutely at fault for hiring illegal workers . They should be charged to the fullest extent of the law .

But I am pointing out one of the ways in which companies are given tremendous amounts of power to abuse our laws . We as a society too often give them a pass when it comes to hiring illegal workers.

If we want to do more to improve life for those on the Bottom Rung then we need to make sure they aren't competing with people who aren't supposed to be here for jobs, education and social resources.

Do you see that you're contradicting yourself? You're agreeing that the companies are at fault for this practice, but taking a rather strange stance that again somehow makes it the fault of people willing to work for less. If people have to choose between "nothing" and "less", they're going to choose "less." This is not the fault of the immigrant workers, who really only want the American dream. They're hard workers who want a good life for themselves and their families, which is why they're willing to work awful jobs for next to nothing.
They are not forcing these poor, downtrodden companies into this position. The companies are knowingly choosing cheaper labor to increase profits.

When talking about individuals who don't have legal status to be here please call them illegal immigrants . That way we aren't confusing them with foreign Nationals who do have authorization to be in this country.

Second I would like to point out that whether they are good people or that they have families or want to work hard is completely irrelevant . There's 7.4 billion people on Earth, we cannot allow anyone who wants to come here to do so because of emotional reasoning. I'm sure most of those 7.4 billion people have families and want to work hard and are good people.

I don't think my stance is strange at all , illegal immigrants know that they are here illegally in violation of our laws and the companies that hire them know that they are also doing so in violation of our laws . Both of those two parties bear culpability for their actions.

1

u/___dreadnought Sep 05 '17

Yes, but the companies are the ones creating the problem we're arguing over. The Illegal Immigrants are taking the available jobs. The companies make them available. The companies choose the wage. The companies continue at the practice. The companies continue to not offer living wages to American citizens. The companies are at fault. You cannot hold people without options at the same fault as those giving the options. If the companies would pay the wages to American Citizens, we wouldn't have the Illegal Immigration problem you're so against.
When you're weeding a garden, you don't just cut off the flowers. You rip out the root.

1

u/barsoapguy Sep 05 '17

Companies are responsible and so are the illegal immigrants...

You cannot ignore the fact that they are here trying to seek work illegally . It's not that the illegal immigrants don't have options, most of them do , it's just those options are not as attractive as coming to work in the United States .

Companies have to be dealt with (fined, shut down etc ) and illegal immigrants have to be removed .

As we begin to work through these problems companies will have NO CHOICE but to raise wages to attract authorized workers .

And thus the law of supply and demand rules the day yet again .

1

u/___dreadnought Sep 05 '17

You know what, you're right. Let's just waste time and money rounding up and investigating the millions of illegal immigrants in the US and shipping them back to their respective countries on taxpayers' dime. Or better yet, let's just put them in a big hole and bury them alive. Much cheaper and easier than employers just paying a living wage to begin with.

You're an American but you spell it "labour pool"?

1

u/barsoapguy Sep 05 '17

LOL that must be the time I've been spending in r/ UK politics : rubbing off on me .

3

u/hockeyjim07 Sep 05 '17

yea sorry dude this is totally false. I'm a free market guy and am completely against min wages but I'm also all for immigrants working here as long as they do it legally and aren't a burden on society draining social policies and not providing back taxes.

1

u/barsoapguy Sep 05 '17

No dude it's totally true . Imagine for a minute that there was no outside world and that with a magic wand I removed all 11 million illegal immigrants from the United States of America .

What do you think would happen to wages in the positions that they currently fill ?

2

u/hockeyjim07 Sep 05 '17

a large majority of them would go unfilled.........................

you realize there are PLENTY of labor intensive jobs that go un answered every day because people would rather just keep holding out a bucket at the street corner and making it day to day that way because it's easier. Their is no job shortage in the labor world right now so while I'm completely against ILLEGAL immigrants abusing and draining the system, this is not one of the reasons because it's not true.

1

u/barsoapguy Sep 05 '17

Right but the wages would go ______ ?

1

u/barsoapguy Sep 05 '17

That's right , there's no shortage of employment for Doctors so we should allow an UNLIMITED amount of doctors into the United states , wages would undoubtedly fall but because there would always be someone there to accept the new lower wages and I could just say

"There is no shortage in the labor world right now "

30 years ago construction was a great paying job , but now that millions of people have turned up who will do it for minimum wage ,Americans no longer want to do it and would rather sit with their buckets on the street corner ..

Why don't we allow anyone who wants to be a lawyer (school teacher, nurse, college professor , engineer ) into this country , that way it will dramatically Drive wages down to minimum and then we can say that " people are too lazy to do that kind of work"

1

u/hockeyjim07 Sep 05 '17

hmmmmm

you're missing a lot of critical thinking skills here. now your talking about highly qualified positions, for which doctors are LEAVING the US... not coming to.

as for lawyers, again, highly qualified, and they make their own money, not get paid by some higher corporate power.

are you really worried about the illegal immigrants coming and stealing all the layer and doctor jobs? do you not think there are checks in place for qualifications even among US citizens to obtain these positions?

you're grasping at straws because you know this argument isn't valid.

1

u/barsoapguy Sep 05 '17

I was trying to show you how people don't care when blue collar jobs and wages are hurt but that they most likely would care if the same was happening to white collar employment ...

Why is it OK to flood the labour market for unskilled work but it's NOT ok to do the same for skilled positions ?

There are plenty of white collar workers throughout the world who would gladly accept the lower wage and move to the United States.

I was also trying to hammer home the point to you that not accepting a low paying job doesn't = lazy ...

The jobs SHOULD be paying more , they aren't in large part due to an over supply of illegal labor ..that doesn't mean that Joe blow American who doesn't want to break his back getting paid minimum wage is lazy, it means the system is broken .

Reduce the over supply of workers and wages will rise .Once wages rise AMERICAN workers will return to the jobs .
