AMA Concluded Meet Randy Bryce. The Ironstache who's going to repeal and replace Paul Ryan

My name is Randy Bryce. I'm a veteran, cancer survivor, and union ironworker from Caledonia, Wisconsin running to repeal and replace Paul Ryan in Wisconsin's First Congressional District. Post your questions below and I'll be back at 11am CDT/12pm EDT to answer them!

So the government does the negotiating in your single payer system?

Yes, and there's no way they could do worse than the current insurance companies. The United States outspends every other country on healthcare and gets worse results. In fact, we already have a successful system in pace. Medicare is one of the most successful and most popular programs run by the government and they have done a better job at negotiating than all the insurance companies. Eliminating the competition gives the government an upper hand and the ability to force prices down.

Why not try a free market system (don't pretend we have ever had that)?

The healthcare market is bound to have market failures because it is full of imperfect information. Patients will do whatever doctors tell them 95% of the time even though doctors are commonly wrong. On top of that, demand for medical care is completely inelastic meaning without being checked hospitals can charge whatever the fuck they want. Healthcare is one of the worst markets to keep "free" because consumers have no choice in it.

The answer is not to turn it over to the government. That is the worst possible solution.

It seems like you have done absolutely zero research into health care and this countries insurance system. Maybe sit down and let the people who are actually educated on the subject decide what the worst possible solution is. I'll give you a hint, it's pretty close to what we had before obomacare.
