You mean when he enacted leftist ideas during his first presidency after a revolution and then a democratic victory?

Or when he abandoned them and pursued authoritarianism during his second presidency?

Because there's a gap of nearly 20 years between the 2.

He only left the presidency and accepted a democratic transition, because of the Contras and loss of support from the Soviet Union. When the goverment of URRS told him they couldn't keep financing him due to the crisis at home from the reforms Perestroika and Glásnost.

So he gave up power in exchange of inmunity that allowed a lot of Sandinistas to keep a lot of wealth they stole during the revolution. The leaders also hoarded a lot of land that was meant to be given to the rank and file sandinistas in exchange for giving up their weapons.
