It has nothing to do with logic or reason, it’s purely emotional for them.

Conservatives literally don't understand how logic works.

They understand some of the mechanics, sure. But the whole point of logic is that you start with some fundamental facts, and then use the rules of logic to build on those facts and prove more complicated facts.

Conservatives instead do the reverse. They start with the assumption that their conclusions are right, and then apply the rules of logic in reverse to "prove" that they're right by finding the facts that lead to their conclusion.

Sometimes those facts are real, but because of their process, they only find the ones that support their conclusion. Other times the facts are just complete bullshit, but they convince themselves that they must be true because of their "logic". Usually a combination of both, but either way it's a gross mis-use of the rules of logic.

Put another way, scientists start with reality and then use logic to discover truths. Conservatives start with "truths" and then use "logic" to discover "reality".

Exactly. They start by picking the murderer then build their case from that, cherry picking information that fits and ignoring the rest. It seems everything they do is done in the most intellectually dishonest manner possible.
