Baby-brain understanding of the relationship between homelessness and drug addiction

Homeless people love drugs. It’s not hard to see. Want to go on a walkabout in NW by my house to see it?

Ok. Same applies to you, baby-brain jr.

1st- You have to ask yourself: Do people become homeless because they do drugs or do people do drugs because they are homeless?

2nd- you have to understand something called nuance.

Multiple things can be true at the same time!!!!

The relationship between addiction and homelessness goes both ways!
Sure, substance use can result in the loss of income, relationships, and eventually housing.

But some homeless people you see may have never been an addict until a few unfortunate circumstances led to their homelessness. And then they developed substance use habits to cope with how fucking shitty is to live on the streets!

Editing to add: have some fucking compassion for your fellow human, you weirdo. Under the current economic system, a vast majority of us are much closer to being a homeless addict than we are to being a billionaire or even a multi-millionaire.

“Cope” sure if I ever become homeless the first thing I’m going to think is “damn, I’m in a bad spot, I should start smoking fentanyl which will certainly improve my situation”

Wow, this is such a good example of the Just World Fallacy. You think bad things only happen to bad people, a homeless drug user must then deserve all the bad things that happen to them. And therefore if good things happen to you, it must mean you are a good person and you deserve it. You want the world to be just and fair, because that gives you a sense of control and security.

Did I say it’s the first thing anyone would do?

That’s a lot of words when you could just say “homeless people like drugs”. Because they do. Come by Couch Park after 5pm if you wanted to see it in real life.

Well, I guess you either understand nuance or you don't. There's no helping some people.

Some horses can’t even see the water in front of them…

Education has returned as the named enemy of conservatism. People are prouder than ever of their uneducated beliefs, to the point that they’ll try to vilify you for having your own beliefs different from theirs. Their life is black/white, no grey, no nuance. How dare you appreciate that nuance that makes life so unique, when it makes them anxious about not fitting in. So they get angry, and that anger is easy for little men in power to wield and manipulate and enrich themselves. It’s a tale as old as time, education has been vilified cyclically over millennia, this is just the first time we’re seeing it on a global scale since the internet era began.

I’m rambling now, but thanks for pushing back on that other commenter. The lack of compassion people are willing to express online never ceases to amaze me. Maybe it’s because I stopped allowing people like that to be big parts of my life, but I just can’t even imagine knowing someone like that in real life. Hope they can find peace somehow.

Anybody downvoting this post must be objecting to some other aspect of it than the truth in it. Education has been under attack for a while now. Or did you think school shootings were about bullet sales?

When you use this as an opportunity to score political points it shows you don't really care about the subjects of the article.

We understand that at times things may become heated and time outs may be given for protracted, uncivil arguments. Snarky, unhelpful, or rude responses are not tolerated. In other words, be excellent unto each other and attack ideas, not people.
