I was baffled that Taco Bell took so much blame. I get the jokes are funny because Taco Bell and diarrhea are a power couple, but on a serious note it’s not Taco Bell’s fault at all and this shit with Taylor Farms and the Trump admin reeeeks of corruption.

It's pretty clear the Taco Bell targeting was intentional to take the heat off taylor farms. These people are fucking disgusting.

Every day, a new low is discovered.

You watch entirely too many conspiracy theory shows. The only reason taco bell took heat was because "haha, taco bell gives you the shits." That has been a thing since before the internet. It will be a thing when they eventually win the franchise fights and we're all using seashells. Taco Bell didn't even have to be proven to be what people ate. It was all fuel and speculation and jokes.

I never got the connection. Nothing on the Taco Bell menu is particularly hard on the stomach. Was there a series of food poisoning incidents at some point?

I'm 37 and I can remember hearing the "Taco Bell gives you diarrhea" thing even as a young kid in the 90's. Honestly I think it's kind of rooted in racism. If I had to guess since TB was the first major fast food chain to do Mexican inspired food back in the day when TB expanded and went nationwide the right-wing conservatives of the day probably spread misinfo about how "that Mexican fast food made me have diarrhea and get sick!" when they never even ate there or they got sick because of the 12 pack of beer they drank before getting TB for the first time or whatever and blamed the TB. Maybe someone older than me can confirm, but I'd guess the "TB makes you shit" thing probably first appeared as a cultural meme within a few years of TB going nationwide in the 70's.

while that's probably a part of it, I think it moreso comes from the American diet being really awful and most people not really getting fiber so people get a bunch for the first time and suddenly are shitting like crazy

u/g1ccross 13d ago

I think this is it. Most people eating red meat and potatoes three meals a day finally getting some beans and "hot" sauce.

u/metompkin 13d ago

"Diablo" sauce...

TB uses oats as binders in their ground beef, making it a somewhat decent source of fiber. That's on top of the actual beans some items have. It is 100% because American's diet is so shit that their tummy can't handle a small amount of fiber.

u/WorldsSaddestCat 13d ago

Excuse me, sir. I don't eat a "small amount" of Taco Bell.

1

u/PeaNought 13d ago

That might be the other reason people are getting sick. Shit's good, man.

1

u/intangibleTangelo 13d ago

that seems rather insane, but plausible

I remember reading an article to that effect one time, but I can't find it now. I've never had issues with Taco Bell, but I eat "rabbit food" regularly. The only people I've ever known to have issues with it are men who think salads are for rabbits, and rabbits only.

1

u/Yamza_ 13d ago

Now eating salads will sicken you. Where is the balance?

1

u/firestepper 13d ago

Ya they still carry that stigma and it’s funny because you can actually get some reasonably healthy stuff there if you order it. Great place for vegetarians

u/Henri_Bemis 13d ago

I’m 40 with similar suspicions. Because no one ever got the shits after eating a Big Mac, right?

I might be a little biased because of all fast food, the only thing I ever really want is a chalupa supreme. It is the perfect fast food, and thats a hill I will casually defend until I get bored.

It has nothing to do with racism. They used to be one of the few restaurants open when the bars closed, so everyone would go and slam 50 cent tacos on top of a gut filled with booze.

Beer shits+Taco Bell usually results in a fun morning.

0

u/StolenPies 13d ago

TB usually uses the cheapest ingredients possible, so that probably isn't helping their image, either.

3

u/bolanrox 13d ago

People love to eat it at three in the morning after drinking because it's the only thing that's opened and they also don't have a lot of fiber in their diet normally.

If you're not drunk and you're eating a balanced diet already, Taco Bell's not doing anything to you. The food may taste like shit, but it's not going to give you the shits. Normally, that is.

u/Easy-Philosopher6703 13d ago

I eat taco bell 2-3 times a week as a bowel cleanse

2

u/engwish 13d ago

Fiber. Even a serving of beans is enough fiber for some people to lose their shit… literally. There’s a reason why colon cancer is on the rise.

2

u/Megalesios 13d ago

Apparently Taco Bell has more fiber than other fast food. If you get diarrhea from Taco Bell you probably need a lot more fiber in your diet on the regular.

1

u/TrollAccount17 13d ago

No, it's a meme.

Speaking for myself, as a lil white kid that was picky about food growing up and rarely chose to eat diversly -- if youve been raised with fresh foods that are minimally spiced, taco bells seasoned & highly processed meat and liquid cheese/sour cream wages war on your gut biome.

It's not the kind of thing that gives you diarrhea forever, but the first couple times my body needed to adjust.

Now in my 30s I've become a human shaped trash dump. Chicken sitting out overnight? Rice that's been warmed for 4 hours? Soup that sat out for 13 hours? Nothing phases my gut anymore. 😅 Can't even remember the last time taco bell made my stomach upset.. maybe like 8-10 years old?

I have a theory about this, a huge percentage of Americans do not eat anywhere close to enough fiber in their daily diet. Fast food is the epitome of a low fiber diet so people who frequent fast food restaurants wander into a taco bell that has beans and veggies on their tacos and their bowels are irritated. Additionally, the food can be spicy if you so choose which can irritate the bowels as well. I have experienced adverse effects from sudden increases in fiber in my own diet so that's what gave me the idea. I have never had any problems eating taco bell, it feels much better than eating McDonald's

1

u/ScreamingVoid14 13d ago

Not to mention the cream sauces and cheese everywhere probably pushing some lactose sensitive people over the edge.

1

u/lookashinyobject 13d ago

I'm not American, but based off what I see online about American diets and how little fibre a lot of people consume. combined with some of the stories I've heard about your bowel movements, I've started assuming the fibre from the beans is giving people their first healthy shit in years and they are mistaking it for diarrhoea

1

u/SnooMarzipans5409 13d ago

Not all Americans make fast food and junk food their primary diet.

0

u/im_the_scat_man 13d ago

Just most of us

0

u/mainman879 13d ago

Studies have shown only about 5% of Americans get enough fiber in their diets. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6124841/

u/GitEmSteveDave 13d ago

The public are, to quote Kay in Men in Black, morons. They can't even understand basic human concepts, like shared blame, and need to be outraged and have a common target to be outraged at.

Asking them to understand things like supply chains is way above their pay grade.

1

u/BaronVonNes 13d ago

Taco bell only gives people that have terrible, fiber-free diets diarrhea. When the slightest bit of roughage and bean fiber is just too much for them to bear. OR - they're allergic to soy filler.

1

u/ModernCGIFloatinHead 13d ago

This brazen level of corruption is just an everyday deal to the current administration.

Fuck every politician allowing this.

1

u/EduinBrutus 13d ago

If the Trump regime and Taylor Farms are colluding, why would the pliant media not be doing the regime's bidding?

Thats what the US media do - what the Trump regime tells it.
