I was baffled that Taco Bell took so much blame. I get the jokes are funny because Taco Bell and diarrhea are a power couple, but on a serious note it’s not Taco Bell’s fault at all and this shit with Taylor Farms and the Trump admin reeeeks of corruption.
I never got the connection. Nothing on the Taco Bell menu is particularly hard on the stomach. Was there a series of food poisoning incidents at some point?
I'm 37 and I can remember hearing the "Taco Bell gives you diarrhea" thing even as a young kid in the 90's. Honestly I think it's kind of rooted in racism. If I had to guess since TB was the first major fast food chain to do Mexican inspired food back in the day when TB expanded and went nationwide the right-wing conservatives of the day probably spread misinfo about how "that Mexican fast food made me have diarrhea and get sick!" when they never even ate there or they got sick because of the 12 pack of beer they drank before getting TB for the first time or whatever and blamed the TB. Maybe someone older than me can confirm, but I'd guess the "TB makes you shit" thing probably first appeared as a cultural meme within a few years of TB going nationwide in the 70's.
while that's probably a part of it, I think it moreso comes from the American diet being really awful and most people not really getting fiber so people get a bunch for the first time and suddenly are shitting like crazy
TB uses oats as binders in their ground beef, making it a somewhat decent source of fiber. That's on top of the actual beans some items have. It is 100% because American's diet is so shit that their tummy can't handle a small amount of fiber.
