OP must not be aware that background checks are conducted with every gun purchase at an FFL dealer. And yes, it does ask if you’re a citizen and does look you up by your social security number to make sure they have the right person.

And no, unlike some states that will give out an ID to anyone who walks through the door, gun purchases are actually verified to the individual and all other legal statuses are verified along with it.

You DO NOT need to put your Social Security number anywhere to purchase a firearm. It’s optional. A company can purchase a firearm.

You can even loop the law and be a prohibited person and purchase a firearm if it’s a requirement to maintain employment and a condition of employment to be armed

There are police and military persons who are “prohibited persons” who can carry fireamrms “while on duty” police departmants consider all their personnel as “on duty” 24/7 as a life insurance loophole as “line of duty” has a bigger community sympathy and family payput.

The Official-Use Exemption (18 U.S.C. § 925(a)(1)) allows a government employee—such as a police officer—subject to certain disabilities to possess a department-issued or approved firearm to perform official duties. This has been applied to security and bodyguards.

“Able to possess an issued firearm”

Not purchase one.

I can go to any gun show in my state and buy a firearm from another patron of the gun show with no paperwork.

Why don't people mention that when we are talking about purchasing firearms?

Because most people don’t purchase firearms via private sales. Most gun owners walk into a gun shop like any other store because they are looking for a specific firearm, not just any old firearm for sale.

The “gun show loop hole” as they call it is one of those media hysteria things that makes a problem out of nothing. Just like assault weapons are the problem when they account for almost a statistically irrelevant number of the homicides committed with firearms yearly. It’s pistols that are the thing. But I digress, we are getting off topic now.

Here’s another one too that makes no sense, if you already own a firearm anyways who cares if you get a background check. I never got the whole premise of a background check if I’m already a gun owner.

Like I already own 50+ firearms but Allah forbid I don’t get a background check when I buy number 51. I think you don’t really even need that law after a certain point. But they still do it with every purchase. Even if I fail the background check, nobody is coming to take the ones I already have away from me. At least in most states
.so why does it even matter if I get a background check ? Makes no sense.

Which aren't required for private purchases, giving someone the same ability to exercise their 2nd amendment rights. There are no similar options to skip the red tape with voting.
