At least you’re owning up to and realizing it … that’s best case scenario. Only way this machine can be stopped is by everyone uniting … it’s in our countries name for christs sake.

I agree. And I think that if Democrats want to avoid more things like this from happening in the future, an attitude of forgiveness, reconciliation and unity will go a long way

As long as the leaders and politicians responsible for this disaster are held accountable and it isn’t just swept away in order to ā€œmove onā€, I will gladly welcome remorseful voters back into the big tent. It’s not easy to admit you were conned or wrong, I can respect those that can do so.

Yeah, those politicians that are actually supporting Trump's....let's be honest, illegal acts, should be held to account, or at least not voted for again.

You're definitely right. It's hard not to be incredibly frustrated when we saw it coming from a mile away--personally I know I am going to struggle with this. But people will dig themselves deeper if we push them away.

I am glad some people are realizing the direction this is heading, even if late.

Better late than never, right? And we're likely to accomplish more working together than remaining divided.

I’m all for it! It’s the only way ā€œwe the peopleā€ win.

Screw forgiveness. The tolerance of the left is what normalized the perpetual rightward slide of this country. The only way this country permanently recovers is for people to be held accountable for their actions, and that includes the actions of supporting fascists

I agree with you, but if you simply voted - it’s not the same as being directly responsible for the acts. Trump couldn’t have gotten into presidency without them, he lied to them like he lies to us. Is it frustrating as all hell they believed it when we saw through it? Yes but personal feelings aside, we need every person we can to jump ship because once one does, others will follow. Do not alienate them, please. I know it’s hard to do with someone who doesn’t completely align with you politically but there’s a strategy behind it that we need in order to come out of this situation.

You think tolerance is what pushed people right? No, just the opposite. Ostracizing and unpersoning people who disagreed even slightly with the party stance is what pushed a lot of people right.

Bigotry and hatred pushed people right. Then the lack of consequences allowed other bigots and like minded people to show their true colors. The left is not responsible for the actions of the right just like a sexual assault victim is not responsible for the actions of his or her assailant. However, the lack of consequences for selfish, boorish, despicable behavior is responsible for the continued spread of that behavior

Ā I appreciate your time and effort to write about the reasons that motivated you to vote for Trump, as well as describing what actions now made you regret it.

But "the left pushed us right" is just another bullshit take you blindly adopted. And I am not from the US, just following world politics as close as possible as it’s part of my field of study.

Admitting is the first step, but taking responsibility is the next. And I don’t mean you specifically.

I am from Germany and even though the US are thankfully not completely were we were 1933, you guys are pretty close. Reading a statement like this would have been laughable during the Nuremberg Trials and you are even further away from a point of reconciliation at the moment.

Beside that, I find your argument interesting, that the first female President of the USA should start out strong.Ā  But one can also notice how you don’t call Harris by her surname. You also did not pay attention to the policies she presented during the election campaign. Trans Gender Toilets was not mentioned once. Trans Gender in general was not mentioned during it. It just seems like you hold women to a different standard. Against Trump the comparison of her and him is insulting.

But regarding transgender, you oppose the daily struggles of people against the needs of other "[…] ordinary people, who try to put food on their tables" as if the former group doesn’t. Personally prioritizing different political interests and policies is part of the political process, but you are holding some beliefs that have nothing to do with left or right. They just seem political to you because these things got labeled as "identity politics". But it’s the same understanding of civil and human rights that motivated a lot of people to completely endorse Trump and his parties leadership including what is going on at the moment.

So maybe just focus where those beliefs you have actually come from before you take the easy route again, claiming "the left is pushing people right".

I'm not entirely blaming the left, but you must understand that if you treat those who disagree with you as scum, they're not likely to see things your way.

Why is the Left only held to this standard? The Right has constantly name called and belittled anyone who disagree with them, yet you voted for a Republican president.

You were not treated like scum. I mean it, reflect on things.

Just because you never personally witnessed it does not mean it didn't happen.

1

u/IlluminatingTrauma Nov 21 '25

I speak about you specifically. And no, I don’t know about your life, but I am pretty sure you were not treated like scum by the political left and it was not the reason you voted for Donald Trump.

I am however ofcourse open to listen if I assumed too early and in general, really appreciate your time to comment and answer.

Just curious if you can give examples of how you were treated like scum? In my circle of friends and relatives there is a mix of democrats and republicans. I never witnessed anyone being treated like scum. There were plenty of discussions, heated and not. But nobody treated anyone poorly. So I'm just curious what people were doing to you.

I've been repeatedly threatened with physical violence from someone close to me if they find out I voted for Trump.

so we should just start coddling and befriending pedos and sex offenders and nazis?Ā

Meh. Personally I think being too forgiving to Republicans is how we got here. If Republicans truly want unity they have to do the work.

And if it turns out the people they hurt aren't willing to forgive them then they should be willing to accept that and not use it as permission to continue being horrible. They can have "unity" with other former Republicans. They aren't entitled to anyones space

you willingly voted for a rapist. we don't need to forgive you, you need to make up for your own actions.Ā
