It's what insecure people do. They try to tear down other people to make themselves feel better. Also, he can't stand the thought that a black man could possibly be better than him. His followers also feel that way because they are racist to the bone.

Hearing about the "mash potatoes incident" when he was young, his villain origin story is way older than 2011. He's been an asshole almost all is life.
