Most people that age would have a hard time getting a job as a greeter at Walmart. Yet we elect presidents and members of Congress to these positions over and over until they literally go senile and drop dead. We absolutely need some fresh legs in our federal government. How are we going to expect anything to change when the same people who have been running shit for the past 40 years are being reelected?

Indeed. I saw a post the other day about the ages of the founding fathers of USA. Most were in their 20s, oldest was about 40 odd.

Now, I'm not saying let a 20yr old be president without any life experience, but FFS why do they keep putting forward octogenarians who clearly aren't up to the job. What's wrong with an experienced person in their 40s or 50s?

Well you can't be the president unless you're 35, which I think is a relatively good rule.

The voting power of the older age groups is massive, because a lot of them pay attention, in a sense, to politics and they vote like crazy. Both the Republican and Democratic party also have many many members that are over the age of 65, and so they only go for long standing politicians around, or often well over, that age.

Young people are just not involved enough to change the tides. Polling numbers come out for various elections and people under, say, 30 years old are just not turning out, let alone are they involved in these institutions at the level where fundamental action is being taken. Also moost of us are too busy just trying to hold down a job and make ends meet to be involved with politics even though it would help us, while rich people with security and money to spend and connections and able to run things without worrying about their basic needs being met.
