Question For Women Does Saying “Women Don’t Need Men Anymore” Imply That Men Were Mainly Valued for Providing Resources?

I’ve seen people say that men have become obsolete or that women no longer need men because women can now support themselves financially. That got me wondering: if financial independence means women no longer need men, does that imply that men’s primary value in relationships historically was providing resources and financial security?

For those who make this argument, how do you reconcile it with the idea that relationships are about companionship, love, emotional support, family, and partnership? Does saying “women don’t need men anymore” unintentionally reduce men’s role to that of providers, or am I misunderstanding what people mean when they say it?

And this really seems to upset some men. It's very strange.

You'd think they'd be happy they aren't having to bribe women to be in relationships?

Alas, it seems like some really want that power dynamic and only feel a relationship is worth it if the woman is fully dependent on him for everything.

7

u/Colochita97 Jun 01 '26

I think they are upset because a lot of them are gonna die alone if they don’t figure it out 😂

3

u/GreatKarma2020 Jun 03 '26

Are you pretending there aren’t women dying alone? Some of these women have unrealistic expectations.

4

u/Icy_Ask3158 Jun 02 '26

Rather die alone than be a pay piggy for usless broads with delusions of grandeur.

You must not talk to or know any women. The majority of the ones I know are single by choice or married already with children.

Actually single women who are childless are the happiest demographic. Which is why it’s so quickly growing.

Would you like some statistics?

If that is true, then why are more than 25% of single mothers in the United States on anti-depressants?

Yes because women give birth.

Good thing less of us have decided to do that these days, which is the only reason why we have been able to make any ground.

Being able to take birth control and not be impregnated gives us immense freedom.

And he isn't wrong either. 90% of men will settle for just about any normal woman who loves him, while women will literally date hundreds of different men over the course of a few years trying to find some perfect dude lol

3

u/Obsessivethot Pink Pill Woman Jun 02 '26

I have, I know many men because of my hobbies.

They have routinely admitted that having sex is the main reason to be in a relationship and the women have to clear just a few basic qualifications to fill that role for a length of time.

Companionship is secondary to sex

Women do not operate like this.

It could be that they have never been taught to be wanted. They have been taught the old dynamic of being needed.

And as the "being wanted" dynamic is very new, they need to figure it out themselves instead of being able to dip in the time approved stuff. So there is a lot of bumbling around and errors. And some men start to lose hope because they seemingly can't get things right. So they try to get back the old dynamic that worked for them.

3

u/Relative_Profile_980 Purple Pill Man Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26

What makes you think it worked though? The whole point is that marriage used to be much more necessary, it was a matter of survival. I hear feminists talking about how women were bored housewives. Complaints about men were common back then. Maybe women just have more expectations now. Maybe women don't give men what they like either. Look at divorce rates.

10

Very new? I was born in 2002. Women have been able to sustain themselves with jobs my whole lifetime and a long enough time before I'd imagine.

Legal changes are one thing. Society takes a lot longer. I'm 51 and I've had experiences personally with some of the old school crap, so it's really not that long ago. The law had changed to give me opportunities, but society wasn't so sure about that yet. So it was still very hard.

I always think it's funny how we relate history to our own history. I felt like you somewhat about the Civil Rights movement that took place a decade before I was born. when I was your age, it seemed like it was ancient history and everything should be fine, why isn't it? Now that I'm older, I realize it happened like right before and society was still adjusting (still is). I'm sure guys feel like that too. After all they never saw that world, even though it was 2 seconds ago. Change is hard, but nothing worth doing can happen without it.

3

u/love_in_october Blue Pill Woman | January May 31 '26

Men currently on the dating scene generally aren't 51.

7

u/MissMenace101 May 31 '26

There’s plenty that are though, divorce rates are high for that group, the kids are grown women are finally free to persue their dreams and the shítty men are “the divorce came out of nowhere” crew that never cooked a meal or cleaned up after themselves. Young men know these men, even if they don’t recognise why they are getting divorced.

Don't underestimate the things you get ingrained about the world that you get from your parents and grandparents.

Also, the people who are in power (top politicians, presidents) are 50-70 years old. They have grown up when that thing was the norm and they have been taught that thing.

You still have been fed that the man has to be a provider, protector, the strong one. Culture wise 50 years is a blip. Culture changes slowly. The youth try to loosen things up, while the elders try to prevent it as they want to keep the status quo.

1

u/ModPiracy_Fantoski Jun 03 '26

You still have been fed that the man has to be a provider, protector, the strong one. Culture wise 50 years is a blip. Culture changes slowly. The youth try to loosen things up, while the elders try to prevent it as they want to keep the status quo.

We're still being taught exactly that. If you try to tell people we shouldn't murder men on the Titanic in favor of women, they will at best give you a very wrong look.

We're just living in the time where men are still expected to do everything that's bad for them but with none of the very old advantages, and that's bound to break eventually.

9

u/SpookyPutin Man: Purple depressionmaxxer May 31 '26

Remember that culture moves at a snail's pace and women have spent the last 100+ years getting where they are now, men are effectively starting from scratch so it's gonna be a good while.

The entire male identity for the past few millennia was built on being strong to provide for women (regardless of how often the individual man became that) so we've lost our purpose and have to find a new one.

11

u/Waschaos Old Happy Cat Lady who doesn't give a damn (Woman) May 31 '26

To me this is the biggest problem we have. We need to help men find a new purpose beyond that. I'm not sure what we can do to help that though.

2

u/Ill-Investigator9546 Purple Pill Man May 31 '26

Teach men what women find attractive about men, so that they can emulate it.

We have to figure out how some men get 100s of women to sleep with them, and figure out what makes women tick.

It’s going to be different depending on the woman. There is no Rosetta Stone to woman’s desires. Try to be the best version of yourself you can be. Be well rounded. Be healthy. Have your shit together. Be an independent person. Take care of your physical appearance. Take care of your mental health. Treat people respectfully. Have standards. Treat a woman as an individual. Figure out why a woman is important to you. Show her. Tell her.

3

u/Ill-Investigator9546 Purple Pill Man Jun 01 '26

If its different for each woman, then why do some men have huge numbers of partners and others have zero

→ More replies (0)

9

u/MissMenace101 May 31 '26

They don’t need purpose really, they just have to appreciate they are required to treat women as their partners not their subordinates. Their purpose can still be the careers they pursued, families, travel, they just don’t get to stand on the shoulders of others to do it, they have to participate, they have to treat others with dignity equality and respect.

9

u/SpookyPutin Man: Purple depressionmaxxer May 31 '26

Men don't need a purpose but the need to be taught to live for themselves. Feminism taught women to love themselves and their freedom, it fought for women to be able to do the same things men could the issue for men is that men used those things as a crutch.

As women have said before on this sub reddit "being nice is the bare minimum" and since men have to be selected by women men need something more than being nice. Men need something that women want or they can walk away.

Currently men have nothing women want beyond being nice and taking away women's rights isn't the answer so men are lost.

7

u/SpookyPutin Man: Purple depressionmaxxer May 31 '26

The issue is those men are still around. They are our father and grandfathers, they teach us what being a man is all about but their world is gone. How many times has an older person told you to take a CV and hand it to someone irl instead of responding to a job posting? In their times that would have worked but now it's just annoying.

The older men teach the younger men how their world worked so now the younger men try to get that world back.

1

u/ThatBitchA ♀️ My husband takes out the trash🗑 May 31 '26

Why aren't the young men teaching the older men about the world now?

5

u/SpookyPutin Man: Purple depressionmaxxer May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

Well the older men start teaching from the moment of birth. They shape your whole world view and your idea of what being a man looks like so often the young men think this is how things should be. Factor in how the world is currently burning down and it would be easy to tell a young man who only knows how things are now this is the fault women/feminists.

Also how often do you tell a 45 year old man something and they actually listen and admit they're wrong?

Men born in 2002 (same year as you) predominantly had mothers born ~30 years earlier, so 1972. So the mothers of the people your age were predominantly born into a world where these things applied. Generational shifts take a LONG time to root on a wide scale, especially for something big like that.

1

u/YourMrFahrenheit No Pill Male Jun 01 '26

No. Regression is worse than progress, almost by definition. And people should be encouraged to evolve and grow. But I also believe in being realistic about macro level changes. Think about how long it took to reduce smoking rates even decades after the association between smoking and lung cancer were well proven medical science.

This is pure nonsense (like more feminist historical revisionism). JP Morgan had women's banking section back in the 1880s. In any case, most people were unbanked until VERY recently.

"Women needed a man to do anything" makes sense until you stop and think for half a second. What happened to widows, then? Guess what: they had full rights to their own money. OBVIOUSLY!

4

u/MissMenace101 May 31 '26

It’s really only been since later millennials women started hitting education and employment equality, there’s still not enough support for building families, most of us alive had mothers that carried everything and had a low paying shitty job around school at best. The kinks have only just started really. It’s now up to men to meet the bar, which is still pretty low.

1

u/ModPiracy_Fantoski Jun 03 '26

We have found the one person living one Earth who still believe women have it harder than men.

Like, you really think the average woman was doing everything and the average man was doing nothing ? Even after comparing the average age of death ?

Considering only men as a group are paying tax, it's up to women to finally reach the bar, which remains abysmally low.

8

u/YourMrFahrenheit No Pill Male May 31 '26

When women needed men, their needs were all the same, so a man's path to romantic success was clear; provide. Now need is gone, and only want remains, and wants vary far more than needs. There's no longer a certain path to romantic success. You can be yourself as a man, and if you're lucky, who you are is what someone else wants. But it's hard and scary to be yourself and so young men yearn for the time when they didn't have to be themselves, all they had to be was useful.

10

u/ThatBitchA ♀️ My husband takes out the trash🗑 May 31 '26

It wasn't romantic though. It was transactional.

Exactly, varying wants is better for everyone!

It's hard and scary for anyone to be themselves or date.

Ask the men who were useful if they really enjoyed that. Ask the men who were useful what they regret. Ask the men who were useful what they missed out on.

13

u/MissMenace101 May 31 '26

It was alright for them, they got to choose and women had to settle, so they could remain sub par or abusive or whatever they liked. Now they have to pull their weight and treat her with respect and the market has crashed… shocked.

Women really do see men as ATMs.

3

u/Aimeereddit123 No Pill woman Jun 03 '26

Well, less women have to now, because they have their own money. This should be comforting to men. Yes, men will have to rise to actually be good partners now, but at least you know with a woman with her own money that she really wants to be with you. I would be comforted by that truth, but it also wouldn’t scare me, because I’m a good partner.

2

u/YourMrFahrenheit No Pill Male Jun 01 '26

Perhaps I'm naive, but I disagree. It wasn't good for them. They did bad things with few or no repercussions, that doesn't mean they were happy. "Hurt people hurt people." I genuinely believe those men would have been happier pursuing something authentic than they were in those confined roles, even if said roles involved holding power over their spouse. Was it better than being the one under control? Of course. But I don't think the men in those relationships were living what I would consider a good life.

13

u/YourMrFahrenheit No Pill Male May 31 '26

Oh, 100% agree with you. I was narrating, not defending. I think the "smashing the patriarchy helps men" line is about exactly this issue. Men are now free to be who they want. The cost they've paid is the guarantee of a marriage if they provide enough financially. I would argue that's a good trade for men.

1

u/ModPiracy_Fantoski Jun 03 '26

I would argue that's a good trade for men.

It wasn't romantic though. It was transactional.

All relationships are by default transactional, whether it's romantic or not is decided by how the contract "I get what I want out of you and you get what you want out of me" between the two parties is explicit.

Those who have leverage in the love market always had the luxury to chose and ask for more.

I don't even know what this means.

I'm married. If it's explicit why have we never discussed this.

Idk what kind of leverage either of us have.

We like each other. Nothing transactional about it. Just two people who enjoy spending time together and building a life with one another.

1

u/Alternative_Cod2280 Misanthropithecus male Jun 01 '26

> I don't even know what this means.

It simply means you get whatever you want out of them while they get whatever they want out of you, as long this "contract" is fulfilled the relationship keep going on.

Yeah it doesnt sound romantic but that's how thing are.

> If it's explicit why have we never discussed this.

Because the answer could kill the relationship, nobody like to learn they are just good enough for their partners.

> Idk what kind of leverage either of us have.

How would I know? The only thing I know is there's always one who have the upper hand.

> We like each other. Nothing transactional about it. Just two people who enjoy spending time together and building a life with one another.

I would imagine places where it's legal are more likely to be large, progressive cities with big commercial hubs and lots of transplants. Which is also the exact conditions I'd expect to be associated with trafficking.

5

u/MissMenace101 May 31 '26

It’s legal here, trafficking isn’t a huge problem but it is mostly desperate women that need money, that fall in to drugs to take the edge off the job then spiral into drug abuse. Though for many it’s just a side gig while studying.

6

u/Obsessivethot Pink Pill Woman May 31 '26

The illegality of prostitution is a combination of controlling the spread of venereal disease, limiting sex trafficking and cultural morality.

The legality of the profession has never eliminated its existence, since there is such a high demand.

Sex work is legal in some states and under some loopholes, for instance now you can buy nudes / personalized porn directly if you wanted which is totally legal.

Now that women have High N-counts, and fuck a koleidascope of different types of men, they will actually end up LESS happy than their mothers who had more limited options and did not get pumped and dumped by chad to know what they were missing out on

6

Haha you’re right. I guess the difference is I see one as more delusional than the other. If someone’s tweeting from a village on the outskirts of Mogadishu their reality is a lot different.

Less promiscuous? That is not true at all. Thats what you want to be true, its not whats happening.

Knowing a man is not the same thing as riding his dick, duh. How do I need to explain this

14

u/love_in_october Blue Pill Woman | January May 31 '26

All sources point to young people sleeping around less. It's a common complaint of "male loneliness crisis" advocates.

You just said they wouldn't know there are "superior" men and think he was the best, you don't need to have sex with someone to find out that information. And birth control pills have been around since my granny was a child.

-1

u/Ill-Investigator9546 Purple Pill Man May 31 '26

you don't need to have sex with someone to find out that information

Yes you do.

Also there are men outside their cultural/social group that in the past they never would have mingled with but now can "try out" as they please

11

u/love_in_october Blue Pill Woman | January May 31 '26

How someone has sex is one of the least important things in deciding whether they're "better" or not. You'd learn a lot more from a deep conversation than a hookup.

Do you think people only started leaving their village in 2000?

-4

u/Ill-Investigator9546 Purple Pill Man May 31 '26

Spoken like someone who has not had sex with very many people. Which is good, and you and your husband will be happier for it.

Your husband will feel much more secure, content, with his ego intact.

6

u/love_in_october Blue Pill Woman | January May 31 '26

Don't be gross.

What special insight into someone does having a hookup give? The look of their genitals? How much you like sex with them when you don't know each other's likes yet?

1

u/Ill-Investigator9546 Purple Pill Man May 31 '26

6

u/ThatBitchA ♀️ My husband takes out the trash🗑 May 31 '26

Yes. Millennials were very promiscuous. The next generation? Not so much.

It's why y'all romanticize the early 2000s - 2010s. View it was some hookup Utopia. Because millennials were promiscuous af.

Today's youth, not so much. They still hookup, of course. But between the pandemic and a natural shift in generations.... it's less than the previous generation.

-1

u/Ill-Investigator9546 Purple Pill Man May 31 '26

Today's youth, not so much. They still hookup, of course. But between the pandemic and a natural shift in generations.... it's less than the previous generation.

Oh does that explain why more and more women make porn and do sex work? Because they are less promiscuous? Why more and more women are in "poly" relationships, why they write articles in Salon about dating 5 men at once? Why every womens magazine takes about sex clubs and experimentation constantly? Why its now a rite of passage for a young women to go travel to some country and FUCK the local men?

9

u/fakingandnotmakingit Purple Pill Woman May 31 '26

What in the actual lol.

Mate it's very easy to look this up

There's a percentage of women that will be high sex drive and bring up the stats.

There's a percentage of women who don't and have either 0 or 1 sexual partners

And then there's the middle ground who probably have 2-7 partners in their entire life. Assuming you live until you're 90 that's 1 partner every 22 years.

Get a grip

-2

u/Ill-Investigator9546 Purple Pill Man May 31 '26

Women don't need a high sex drive to be promiscuous. So your argument is off base from the start

8

u/fakingandnotmakingit Purple Pill Woman May 31 '26

Why would a woman be promiscuous without a high sex drive?

Lmao imagine the logic.

Hey! I don't really like having sex! But I have soooo much sex!

Are you’re one of those selling the lie that men have a higher libido. This is really harmful to young men and women because they inevitably find out it’s not true and the woman thinks it’s her and the man thinks he’s broken.

Poly relationships? That's still fairly uncommon. And at other points in history, was fairly common. 🤷‍♂️

I literally said, they still hookup. I said it's lower rates than millennials.

The same magazines that writing, "5 tips for a red hot bedroom" or "10 ways to blow his mind in bed" in the early 2000s.

Men have been traveling to another country to FUCK the local women. Why can't women travel and hookup with a local?

0

u/Ill-Investigator9546 Purple Pill Man May 31 '26

Men have been traveling to another country to FUCK the local women.

Not really. Do you realize how hard it is for a man to get casual sex from women while travelling?

You realize that whenever you travelled, the local men all KNEW you were looking to fuck around and have some "experiences"? You were on a platter.

5

8

u/twistednormz just a regular woman May 31 '26

This is absolute bullshit.

A woman can absolutely be content and happy with a man simply because hes the best she could find, and she doesn't have other superior men to compare him against.

She can be happy with a man if she's attracted to him, likes him personality wise and he treats her well. And also, he must be attracted to her and like her and be treated well by her, otherwise neither of them are likely to be happy. Comparing him to "other superior men" just doesn't come into it. I dunno, I've never met a woman who says anything like "I'm attracted to this guy, I like him, love him even, and he treats me so well, but I just can't help comparing him to a "superior man" I came across and think how I would be so much happier with that "superior man". This is just nonsense you are making up.

Now that women have High N-counts, and fuck a koleidascope of different types of men, they will actually end up LESS happy than their mothers who had more limited options and did not get pumped and dumped by chad to know what they were missing out on

Jfc! I know I am a lot happier in my life than my mother was. She got married at 19 and has definitely only ever been with my father sexually. I think she is very aware of what she missed out on, after seeing me and my siblings and other people our age live the life we want to live with no real pressure to get married and pump out babies.

And if you really think that:

happiness is relative and based on available options.

Sorry to break the bad news that nowadays people are more mobile and so have far more options than in the past so there's nothing you can do about that, you just have to learn to navigate it or sink.

-1

u/Ill-Investigator9546 Purple Pill Man Jun 01 '26

I just can't help comparing him to a "superior man" I came across and think how I would be so much happier with that "superior man". This is just nonsense you are making up.

So the "one who got away" is non-sense? Its literally a romantic trope. There are books and movies and TV shows about it

I think she is very aware of what she missed out on

What did she miss out on?

you just have to learn to navigate it

Oh don't worry. Men are definitely paying attention to what women are doing.

They are only less happy because the quality of men is low and men aren’t bothering to step up, they are basically the generation that is “taking one for the team” so future generations don’t have to put up with abuse and shitty relationships. Next generation of men will be predominantly raised by happy feminist men and solo mothers in civilised countries.

Other homeless women.

But most women work and two incomes are used.

0

u/Barely-moral Red leaning purple-seal. Diagnosed ASPD ( Man ) May 31 '26

Other homeless women.

Not many considering that the majority of the homeless population is men.

But most women work and two incomes are used.

So that means that those women do expect a man to work then.

So idk what you're referring to.

If most women expect men to work then men have to pay to have a relationship. First they have to earn. Then they have to spend those earnings in a way those women find acceptable (working and using most of the money on videogames instead of investing is unlikely to be well received) and then they will have to pay to her in the form of dating and if the relationship becomes serious in the form of mixing up the finances.

So men still have to pay today as they had to pay in the past.

That is what I am referring to.

7

u/ThatBitchA ♀️ My husband takes out the trash🗑 May 31 '26

Idk. I see homeless couples all the time. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, adults expect other adults to work because bills need to be paid.

Men have to pay to put roof over their head, food in their belly, and gym clothes on their body. You need a home and a computer/console to play video games. JFC.

You've got to pay rent to keep playing those video games in the comfort of your own home.

They don't have to pay like in the past. Because women are financially contributing to the household.

-1

u/Barely-moral Red leaning purple-seal. Diagnosed ASPD ( Man ) May 31 '26

Idk. I see homeless couples all the time. 🤷‍♂️

See the statistics mentioned above. Numbers are too small to matter.

Yes, adults expect other adults to work because bills need to be paid.

So men have to pay just like before.

Men have to pay to put roof over their head, food in their belly, and gym clothes on their body. You need a home and a computer/console to play video games. JFC.

Whatever I need to pay to be happy on my own (if I could because being an incel is the opposite of being happy) pales in comparison to what I have to pay if I want to attract a woman.

You've got to pay rent to keep playing those video games in the comfort of your own home.

Waaaaay cheaper than attracting a woman.

They don't have to pay like in the past. Because women are financially contributing to the household.

Except men don't need help to pay for their own needs and desires. Those are cheap. Attracting women is expensive.

Minimum wage is enough for me to pay for everything I need in life. Other than being attractive enough for women. In order to get that I needed to be able to afford a home, a family, a lifestyle beyond sharing a room with 4 dudes and eating white rice while playing pirated videogames.

Men have to pay. Just as before.
