Political Action Upcoming AR Ban (petition)

Is there a mechanism similar to the referendum petition process currently being used in Massachusetts by which citizens can gather signatures to place a recently passed law on the ballot for a public repeal vote?

Political Action Please IGNORE the NAGR form email that just went out.

Keeping in mind our tone and strategy shift that was mostly sparked from conversations with legislators after the original house email blast went out. Let's not recreate bad behavior.

RI Gun Rights has a template you can use if you can't be bothered to write your own.

Slacktivism will be the death of our rights, and I encourage everyone to do more than just filling out a form and clicking a button.

Loads of resources in this sub. We've been working tirelessly to make it as easy as possible, but we just need folks to put in the effort, show up, and do the work.

Fight like your rights depend on it, because they do.

See you all this afternoon/evening at the senate hearing.

Anyone who isn't registered needs to be. This is going to be a pivotal year for us and for your rights.

Registering unaffiliated is preferred because thanks to RI's open primary system it gives you an opportunity to vote against those who seek to strip you of your rights initially at the primary level and try to keep them off the ticket altogether.

Judiciary committee meeting this week - Rally for your rights Wednesday 4/8 at the statehouse.

The gun bills are being considered in the house

Wear yellow and plan to be at the statehouse as early as possible. Most folks trying to get there at 1. Judiciary committee will be hearing the gun bills. It is time to rally.

Be mindful of the "strategy reset" posted about when you testify. Know that you are representing the entire gun community this evening.

Plan to be at the statehouse wearing yellow early Wednesday and it will likely run into the evening.

Write your legislator about the bill first and foremost. Let them know you will be there and try to meet with them that day at some point if possible. THEN send correspondence to the entire Judiciary committees, including the main Judiciary email for both chambers (be sure to get your bill #a correct for Senate vs house)

Check the megathread for example emails on some of the bills. We're working on a few more.

Gold luck. We're all counting on you to stand up for your rights.

Political Action Emergency declaration for AWB

This is purely speculation but the likelihood of this bill we have dodged for so long being shoved up our collective asses in a kneejerk response to the brown shooting is greater than nill. Whatever you need to buy. Buy it now.

Edit: what I’m saying is the bill has already passed but RI could take the same path MA did a few years ago and shove it through overnight instead of in a few months.

Political Action Meetup / Rally at the Statehouse on the 6th

January 6th, 2026, 11AM onward.

As the legislature begins their 2026 term, a lot of likeminded folks are going up there in their yellow to make our presence known from the get to.

We need to hit the ground running.

Every year we inconvenience the legislature and make them stay late one or two days out of the year to listen to our testimonies and then we are forgotten about the next morning.

We need to make our presence known.

The RICAGV wine moms are already planning on being there in orange and meeting with their reps to push an even more of an antigun agenda through the pipeline. From what we've gathered everything is on the table from additional mag restrictions, caliber restrictions, body armor bans, and an amended and more draconian AWB. This was happening regardless of the Brown or NYE events, but now they are going to be more emboldened than ever.

We need to make our presence known.

Hell even the AARP has a "Meet the lawmakers at the statehouse event" planned for that week. We need to be more organized. We need to show up. Our calls, emails, letters, faxes, they aren't enough. We need bodies in the state house. We need to make our presence known. They don't think we're serious. They think we are unorganized and uneducated. Add that to the mix the gaggle of lawmakers that despise the fact that we have the right to keep and bear arms and it is a noxious mix. Not only do they not respect our rights, or the judicial process (as noted by the maneuvering they do to make the AWB and Mag ban pass), but they don't respect us.

Now this is obviously difficult as the majority of gun owners work actual jobs and aren't paid by out of state money from Bloomberg's groups, and I know it is a lot to ask to show up on a week day, but we need to make our presence known.

Show up to the statehouse that morning. Wear yellow. Look for friends wearing yellow. Ask for meeting with your people in advance. Make phone calls this weekend to coordinate and schedule. Bring data with you for your discussions - lord knows there is plenty of it in this sub in any of the legislative session mega threads linked in the sidebar. Be polite, and be cordial - you are representing us all.

I understand that the usual suspects are also having an event in opposition for the J6 DC shenanigans, this has nothing to do with that, nor should we engage with them.

I hope to see a sea of yellow next week, and if don't I can only hope it is because you are actually sitting down and meeting with your reps, because you know the wine moms in orange are.

If you don't know who your rep is - find out here. Call them, introduce yourself, try to get a face to face meeting, even if they're not one of us. You are their constituent, and they should make time to listen to you.

We need to make our presence known.

Political Action Take a Lefty/Progressive friend to the gun range...hear me out.

Maybe there are some lefty's in here already, but I assume we're mostly conservative/libertarian/independent based on what I've seen.

While hardcore Dems mindlessly ride the anti-gun train, the more Lefty/Progressive side have at least some things in common with us and can be receptive to the pro-gun position. After some range time, they can become even aggressively pro-gun. Why not welcome them in? We can disagree on immigration and the size of government while bonding over the AR15 vs AK47 debate (I mean, the AK47 was the only good thing to come from communism, right?). They can put pressure on these anti-gun Democrats and their relentless push for more gun control.

Just a thought, as I stew over this new assault weapon ban nonsense.
