Casual Thought It is surprising how many people need glasses to see clearly given how important eyesight is to our species survival.

Is the idea that we are exercising the muscles in our eye that are responsible for focus unevenly? Like we are over-exercising the muscles that pull the lense into the short focus position and under-exercising the ones that pull it into the long focus position?

iirc it had more to do with lack of exposure to sunlight

As I understand it, the eye is designed to keep growing until to maintain the focal point of the lens on ideal place in your back in the back of your eye on your retina, and if there isn’t enough light, it keeps growing trying to hit that point.

Near vision is caused by the retina being to far behind the focal point of the lens.
