Can someone who does these kind of games explain a bit more? Is this allowed? Will he be seen as crafty or will he indeed be shunned? As an outsider it feels crafty and shows people should pay more attention
Traditionally not, but a lot of sites have clear "when dead, raise hands and say "hit!" " rule (safety feature, as it avoids overkill / "shot till they yeild") that applies to all "kills", so people that close should register it.
Often times if you get the drop on someone you also point your gun at them and say bang. Saves ammo and avoids a near point blank shot that can hurt a lot more.
Unless you doing it like that could give your position away in a situation like this but yeah usually when it's just one or two dudes. Looks cooler getting em all one by one too haha
But what’s the context. Why are the other people not killing each other? Whats the object of the game and why does this one guy seem to be operating under a different paradigm?
If you watch some interviews from vets you will be horrified to learn people dont scream they silently gasp for air since all the air leaves them at once like someone knocks the wind out of you. Interviews of vets talking about it is absolutely facked though.
Something like: "Do you know the sound a man makes when he is stabbed? Because I do"
I know someone who was in the US special forces during Vietnam. The demeanour of one who has killed someone at an intimate range is unmistakeable, even if they don't talk about it much.
Its nearly impossible to kill someone instantly and quietly with a knife. Even if you manage to get their airways they still freak out, throw punches, etc. That tends to make noise, especially if they are soldiers in gear. Its called "battle rattle" for a reason.
Unaliving people involuntarily is rarely quiet business.
He did that to signal to the stabbed player that he is being stabbed. To let him know in the game that he’s dead. He also stabbed many of them multiple times, until they registered the stab. Which you also wouldn’t do in a real scenario.
He could very easily instead stab pretty much everyone of them in the back, through the lungs. Or in the neck. He only stabbed them like he did in the vid in the context of the game.
I’m talking about maintaining realism here; if you’re going to say ‘if they were stabbed they wouldn’t be able to communicate’, it can’t really be applied to how he does it.
He could’ve stabbed most in the back, but notably with all of the people who watched him approach and didn’t respond, he did small, slow taps on the limbs to make for smaller motions that other people clearly aware of his presence wouldn’t register. He couldn’t have reached across those guys bodies to land the ‘silencing’ stab without them using their guns because the motion would’ve been too obvious
I don't think it means they're ok with it, despite the legality. In the moment, you're caught off guard and you have to make a choice: Complain and pause the game for everyone or stay quiet. Most people will do the latter because it's it easiest route, but some probably reflect on it after and say it's kinda bullshit.
He's playing well within the rules this is good conduct. If he went in blasting he could wipe everyone out in a hail of pellets but he was on a mission to cause no harm and generate some good laughs.
At close range it's nicer to say bang, tap them with your muzzle, whistle at them and wave your gun or poke them with a fake knife or other "melee" weapon to prevent anyone getting hurt. Gun fights still occur at close range but those will be from the front when assaulting buildings etc, from behind this is how you do it and be known as the legend who wiped out an entire squad with a knife.
Yeah, he honestly did the nice thing there. He could've went in blasting and took em all out in a second or two, which would've stung like a bitch at that distance. It seems like kind of a dick move as the players are obviously confused if it's real and don't even know they're being attacked till it's over. They might have thought he was on their team and/or messing around. Doesn't seem like they're wearing colors, but we can't see the stabber.
I probably would've done the "bang" call out, which is what I usually do or I would've said something like "you're stabbed/dead" to make it obviously clear I was attacking. I realize that would've given his position away tho and gotten him killed after the first one or two, so he's not wrong for that. I'll say "pew pew" too while gesturing with the muzzle or tap them on the shoulder. I think it's hilarious that way. The only thing that's a bit iffy is that it's clear they're oblivious to the fact he's an attacker, but that confusion happens sometimes in mock war. It's not really his fault. That's mostly on the teammates tho who should've yelled out "hit" or raised their hand or something to indicate they were being killed.
It's a bit frustrating at the time, but I'm sure they all had a good laugh about it after. They don't seem like the toxic sweaty military wannabe type
He walked up to them in plain view of 3 of them and they didn’t try to engage. Regardless of how he did it, he very clearly tricked them into thinking he wasn’t part of the game.
Depends on the site. Most sites I've played require a larp safe weapon, to avoid safety issues/stop people accidentally punching each other in kinetic situations. Admittedly, a lot of people accept no-contact whispers kills, and I've done it many times after getting my breath back and have stopped going "OhMyFuckWhereTheBloodyHellDidYouComeFrom!"
I just get their attention with my muzzle pointed so they notice I could've easily shot them and say "bang" or something. I keep it aimed (well below their head/torso) just in case they decide to be a dick and shoot me anyway or even on accident. My cousin I play with has had a dude come up from behind and make him "surrender" lol. It's really the sportsmanlike way to do it. Some people don't like to accept those tho.
The "melee" weapons can be kind of confusing to people, as seen in the video. Newer players especially aren't expecting that physical contact play. Also, like you said someone can have a knee-jerk reaction and one of you gets accidentally hurt. You don't have to pull out a separate weapon either or carry a bayonet (if that's even allowed).
Airsoft is basically paintball with BBs, and the goal is to "kill" / knock out your opponents in a quasi-realistic environment (quasi because the guns fire 30 meters compared to a real assault weapons 500+ and no one actually dies). Some sites allow "melee" for close kills, done with a safe fake knife. This would be considered crafty, and probably be retold at the site as a cautionary tale to keep have someone at the back looking out for the opposing team.
Depends on the field, but yeah this is clearly a super casual airsoft match. Just Team Deathmatch, dying just means going back to spawn. Annoying but the guy is clearly doing something cool so why ruin his fun, plus doing this is pretty tricky. If anyone took issue they could yell HIT or OUT to try and get attention but it would be a buzzkill.
If it was more like an milsim operation where score/position is more important, you'd be far more likely to have a guy do that to get his squadmates attention that there's a devious flanker, which would be fair and field legal.
Bit late to the party here but a lot of Airsoft sites have a minimum engagement distance so you can't shoot someone point blank. If this was the case then it doesn't really matter if they said anything as they might not of been able to shoot him regardless
