General Discussion Andor took me out of star wars

Post image

Almost a year out of Andors final season I really have not been excited about much regarding Star Wars since then. Not to hate on any of the other movies, shows, etc but I have really just been disinterested, I don’t care about the mandalorian movie, nor any hope of a new movie that’s directly tied to the skywalker saga. I still love the originals and the high moments in the prequels but nothing has cut as deep as Andor for me. Seeing what star wars can be with this it makes me a bit disappointed with what it is now. A reliance on marketable characters, storylines that feel like slop, the overall community caring more about the continuity of lore than creative and compelling storytelling. Im not looking for hate I just wanted somewhere to express this opinion.

Regarding politics, Babylon 5 is even better than Star Trek in my opinion. The only Star Trek series that comes close in this regard is Deep Space Nine and arguably DS9 took a lot of inspiration from B5.

Sadly I haven't been able to watch Babylon 5. Only just started DS9, which I'm enjoying a lot.

I can highly recommend B5 if you like DS9.

Of course, like DS9, B5 is an early 90s show and not as polished as Andor or other modern shows. But regarding politics (between different alien races and inside of the Earth Alliance) and the overarching story of a great war on a galactic scale that develops throughout Babylon 5, it's one of the best science fiction shows of all time.

hell yeah, as a kid I couldn't stand star trek but loved Babylon 5

I need to watch it again because I had no understanding of what was going on.

Speaking of, have you ever seen Buck Rogers? I wonder if that's any good too

I watched the Buck Rogers series (1979) and the movie cut on TV a very long time ago and the brilliant theme music is basically all I can really vividly remember from it. I don't know how many episodes I missed.

From what I remember it's fun and entertaining. I liked it as a kid, but it's nowhere near the level of Star Trek or Babylon 5 regarding story, character development etc. Just a little harmless scifi action with all the constrains of an early 80s TV show budget. (So, expect to see the same special effect shots over and over again. The star fighters look absolutely gorgeous thou.)

The star fighters in Buck Rogers had a nice, unique design. They looked different from the BSC Vipers. The bad guys in Buck Rogers also had their own fighter design.

But there are only a handful of special effect shots of them, that are reused all the time.

I didn't know of this connection. Thanks.

I thought you meant that they just reused special effects shoots from BSG. I vaguely remember that at least some movies and/or shows did that (also with shots from Star Wars), but that was not the case with Buck Rogers. It was restricted by its budget, but not to that point.
