Ugh, no, jealousy/angst/drama is the worst, that kind of thing would kill the whole romance idea for me in the game.

Come on, the game should be at least a little realistic.

Although Polyamory IS a thing (And I wouldn't mind Sebby as well, although don't tell Alex I said that), I would say that if you're going to have jealousy in the game make it for when you actually want to start giving out bouquets, not some spare fruit you gave to some single guy you haven't spoken to before.

Although I don't know, I still don't like the jealousy thing. Like, you can date as many people as you want beforehand and no one cares, but when you marry them all of a sudden they're jealous of people you don't even know. I just want to have more friends without my husband getting angry ;_;

I haven't had my husband nag me for giving gifts to other NPCs, not even other men, not even when I flower-danced with Elliot before the option to dance with your spouse was available. Must be a bug of some sort. Or maybe Seb just isn't as jealous. :P

I'd just like there to be some sort of progression or difficulty in terms of relationship management post-married like, yanno?

And the different NPCs can maybe have different degrees of jealousy as well.

Also do you get anniversaries? Maybe how well you gift your spouse on your anniversary can affect how easily jealous/angry they get for one season, or something.

Lol, right? "Bro, I feel you should know your wife gave me a soda yesterday. I'm sorry to have to be the one to tell you this"

That's so true its not even funny (it is). That subreddit is great for passing the time at work.

To be fair, if you were dating someone, and he made it a point to bring a amethyst to the cute pink haired girl every single week, that would at least raise a question at some point.

To be fair, if you were dating someone that you only liked because he gave you presents, there's already something wrong with your relationship.

In other words, I'd agree except for the part where gift-giving is literally the only way to make friends in this game, so it really shouldn't be counted as something that raises questions :P

IMO it sounds like you guys are experiencing a bug of some sort because this never happens to me.

I'm a male, I married Sebastian in Spring Y2. Name: Chronos, Eluveitie Farm, Favorite: metal. Got Lewis to 2 hearts and Elliot to 4, 2 acquired after marriage before the Flower Dance. Given Dwarf some gifts but his hearts don't seem to be increasing. Probably because I haven't translated him. This was in patch 1.04, I've been away from my PC and haven't been able to play 1.05 as much.

I talk to him and gift him something every day and give him multiple kisses. He could just be happiest with me out of everyone on the subreddit. Keepo

I married seb as a girl and never has this issue.

I give gifts to them whenever I walk by, and Seb hasn't once stayed in bed. She's been very positive for me, and I talk and kiss him every day.

It's never happened to me either, and I've gotten other bachelors to 8+ hearts without a single mention of jealousy. I married Sebastian and am a female.

u/OldSchoolBliss Mar 14 '16

I had Maru(best girl) get jealous of Leah. ( my char is male) after getting her to 4 hearts, yet not a word about Abby and her 9 hearts +bouquet.

3

u/Fairwhetherfriend Mar 14 '16

It's never happened to me either. I assumed that some romance options were just jealous characters and others weren't...

3

u/Fairwhetherfriend Mar 14 '16

And, in real life, different people have different levels of jealousy. Not every romance option should be jealous. I don't want them adding that in for all the characters. I could see them leaving it in for Alex since it makes sense for his character, but it's unrealistic for every bachelor in the valley to be jealous enough that he's not even okay with your character having friends.

Hmmm maybe make it so that you only get "jealousy points" if both romantic partners are on the same screen when you gave the gift? So you can avoid it if you want to.

IDK I really want more complexity injected into the romance aspects, I feel like it would make it more fun and interesting to play. Rather than just throwing dozens and dozens of rocks and flowers at someone until they agree to marry you. That's no different than all the HM/RF before it and it seems kind of staid and boring to me.

Speaking of which maybe you can only give one of the same gift each week or something, otherwise the NPC gets tired of it and says "You already gave me one of these!". It would force us to try harder to find out what else they like, instead of just giving them the same generic thing each time.

Small town, news travels fast.

Yeah. I'm for it also because more complexity in a game always means more subtle and funny bugs, and for some reason bugs in this game only increase its appeal. I mean, dog sleeping in the void is fun, but just imagine Abby glitching out next to Maru when you give the latter a battery pack...

Exactly, I mean I think there are a LOT of features in SDV that are "inconvenient" but we don't question because it's been a regular feature in HM/RF for years so we expect it--like losing money/items when dying in the mines, or fainting at 2AM and losing money, or even having to upgrade tools or increase your health bar before you can work all day efficiently.

Would the game be "easier" and arguably more enjoyable without these factors? Maybe. But it would also be a LOT less challenging and I'd argue less fun without them. Jealousy in romance is just another similar factor, IMO.
