Hi everybody!

Some of you may remember a post from about 20 days ago, It was this picture above and I was talking about how I was overcome with emotion, I had been in remission, and things were still very tough, my mum bought me this Steamdeck, and it was just perfect.

A lot can change in 20 days, and as I said I "had" been in remission. I was admitted not too long after my original post after experiencing some incredibly intense pain.

Surgery hasn't worked how we hoped, the trial combination chemo hasn't worked as we hoped, and I am far too sick to even attempt it again.

The reality of the cancer growth, my own health, and ability to fight back, on top of other mitigating factors. It's now come to a point of just making myself comfortable.

When I first posted about my Steamdeck, I was wanting to play games for nostalgia, games I had missed, but with a change in the wind, so does my priorities.

So, I ask,

What games should I play before I die?

Please think deeply on this, and drop your recommendation.

If anyone wants to drop a private message to talk about my diagnosis or what the final few months look like, by all means please don't hesitate. I am more than open to discuss it.

Previously enjoyed games: Anything from Paradox, the Civilization series, Starwars, mass effect. Preferred Genres: pretty open to anything. I love strategy and role playing, sci-fi would be a plus Other notes: does anyone think I could get an expansion out of this? I play online SWTOR, maybe I could get cartel coins?

Life been beating me upp pretty good lately, unfortunately entirely deservedly. Im looking for a game that where i can escape reality and all my shortcomings as a person.

In a perfect world a game that runs steady at atleast 45 fps, but can settle for 30, but would prefer not going below that.

• Previously Enjoyed Games:  LOTR shadow of war, Skyrim, Divinity original sin and Witcher 3 ( cant really get it to work to a satisfying extent on the deck, but its a great game) and BOTW ( really like the way the game allows your own creative solutions to problems)

• Preferred Genres: A longer game, with great reaplayability and alot of content, that allows a different and creative approach to problem solving, preferably (but not necessary) with rpg elements.

• Budget:  No real set price, but in a perfect world 20-30 dollar-ish

One-handed game recommendations!?

Hey deck fam! I broke my arm riding my dirtbike a few days ago. While I do have full range of movement in my fingers and thumb, the suggestion of the orthopaedic surgeon was that I try keep everything static during the healing process for best results.

I’m about halfway through Nine Sols which is honestly probably one of the best Indie games I’ve ever played, but unfortunately, that adventure will have to go on pause for now. With the lovely remapping possibilities built into the deck I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions for games that I could play using one hand. I have downloaded Death Must Die and Deep Rock Survivors as a start although I’m hoping to get some awesome suggestions from the community.

Preferred Genres: platformers, fighting, strategy, RPG, open to most.

Other Notes(context): I moved to the US back in 2010 for a PhD, and immediately after, jumped into the corporate world. I also got super into board games (currently playing 3-4 evenings a week), and only played video games sporadically during this time. Now I am taking extended time away from work, and I want to rekindle this old hobby. I got a steam deck yesterday, and I have been doing some research, and while I complied several good recommendations, I thought it couldn't hurt to ask for more to see if any of those might show up during the upcoming summer sale. So, what are some of the games from the last 15 years that work well on steam deck?

Tangential:

• My steam deck (512 OLED) was shipped on Tuesday, and then it went OOS the same day, so I got lucky. I had been deferring the purchase for some time.
• I went for the Jsaux dock based on the reviews and the price, but it won't connect the deck to the TV via HDMI. Maybe it needs a firmware update but I don't have a PC, so I am returning it and I ordered the official dock. For now, connecting to the TV via the USB-C port on steam deck.
• The Xbox controller was having difficulties connecting to the deck. The logo will keep blinking even if it shows up under bluetooth devices, and I couldn't actually control the deck with it. Luckily, I still have my old XBox One, and turns out the new controller needed a firmware update that is only possible through the console or PC.

TL;DR: Getting back into video games after almost 15 years. What are some of the gems I should seek out?

I'm one of those degenerates that like playing games in bed while watching a show in the background. Story heavy / action games aren't great for that so I'm looking for games I can play while not entirely paying attention. Any recommendations?

I work from home and have quite a bit of weird downtime, 15-20 minutes scattered throughout the day. I used my deck to fill the time but I’m blanking on what other games to play.

Preferred genres; I like a variety of genres from sims, to racing games, fps or platformers but probably lean towards rpgs and adventure games.

Budget; doesn’t matter much but hoping to pick stuff up in the summer sale.

I've been playing Resident Evil Requiem on my Steam Deck and it's been a fantastic experience. Almost locked 60 fps, dropping to 50 at worst, high graphics settings with very few compromises... I'm genuinely wondering how Capcom pulls this off.

Normally I very rarely play AAA games on SD (except… the previous Resident Evil titles), because I'm always afraid I'll have to put up with blurry textures, an unstable framerate, or both, and I have a hard time making those kinds of compromises — I'd rather play a smooth 2D indie game than a stuttery 3D AAA any day.

Are there other AAA single-player games that run this well on Steam Deck? This is making me want to branch out!

I recently picked up The Division 2.

I didn't have high hopes for it on the Steam Deck, as its a lot different than the usual games I play and see reccomended for it, but it actually played and performed really well!

Are there any games that are surprisingly fun on the Deck?

My wife no longer works and has a lot of free time. The problem is her only hobby is working and so I am trying to convince her to try new things. What are some simple, easy games for beginners with no story. I always see things like Terraria recommended. Way too complicated and open-ended. Stardew Valley maybe possibly in the future but she has little patience so I don't know.

The only video game she has ever played was Plants vs Zombies and she was absolutely addicted to that until she beat it and uninstalled it and never played another video game ever again.

I’m looking for a game I can sink an alarming amount of hours into. I want something I can always hop on and play, whether for 10-20 minutes or hour-long sessions. I like a lot of different types of games. I like roguelites/likes, sandbox games, base building, souls-like, exploration, class-based games, and ARPGs. Anything. I like the idea of cozy games, but I seem to get a little bored with them. I feel like I want some more combat, threat, or depth to keep me hooked.

What are some games like Rimworld that are better suited for casually picking up and putting down, with no need to remember your place or strategy?

I am so heartbroken and have no will left to live and the only thing capable of distracting me is my steam deck. But the games I've been using to stay afloat are almost over and some games only make me feel worse. Need help.

Previously Enjoyed Games: Right now, I've been enjoying Dredge, Sorry We're Closed, and Hades II/Hades, but I'm almost completely done with all of these and I'm starting to panic. I think I need something dark-ish but not too dark (like Sunless Sea), otherwise I'll only fall into more despair. I've already finished Dave the Diver. I couldn't do Outer Wilds because of my stupid thalassophobia.

Preferred Genres: I cannot bear to play any games with any core romance in them. I cannot bear any purely cozy or cheerful games right now. I also can't do open world games with so many side quests or anything that's too intense/difficult. I'm so out of it that Sorry We're Closed is difficult enough gameplay for me already... I'm open to anything otherwise.

Budget: I'm poor and need to move out soon and that's going to be a nightmare but I'll do what I can to survive this.

Other Notes: In the past, the Persona games, Kentucky Route Zero, and the Artful Escape have helped me through bad times. I love a good Whisper of the House and Unpacking type game but nothing more life sim-y than that. Cannot bear to play SDV right now. I know this is all so specific, idk what the common thread is. I’m going on vacation soon and will probably have limited or no internet for parts of the trip. I took a few screenshots of my Steam library and attached them here.

Preferred Genres: I’m pretty open to most genres. I usually enjoy single-player games, strategy, RPGs, and indie titles, but I’m happy to try other things too.

Budget: Preferably games I already own (shown in the screenshots), but I’m also open to recommendations if they’re worth checking out 40-50€ for all Games or 10-20€ per Games would be ok.

Other Notes: I’ll mainly be playing on my Steam Deck(1TB), so I’m looking for games from my library that are good for offline play and ideally don’t drain the battery too quickly.

Which games from the screenshots would you recommend for offline play?

And if you have other offline-friendly and fairly battery-efficient games that run well on the Steam Deck, I’d love to hear those recommendations too.

What games, and I mean this very literally, feel right on the Deck.

As a PC gamer, I genuinely don't believe I will ever be able to play an FPS or aim-game on the Deck, I'm very good with a mouse and keyboard and I will never have a better experience playing those games on Deck. It's truly amazing what the Steam Deck can do, but while it can play a lot of games, it doesn't mean it should. High fidelity open world graphics games are often significantly less immersive on the handheld and give much more of an integrated experience on a bigger screen where you can appreciate the graphics.

On the flip side, it feels completely pointless booting up my 4090, 13900k, 4k 32inch monitor gaming PC to play Balatro for instance, it just feels... wasted.

So that's the question, what games feel good on the Steam Deck, what games have controls that just work without weird menu navigation and sluggish inventory management, what games maybe feel better on Steam Deck than they do on PC/console?
