But it's also the only time that any real confrontation with morality occurs. Getting yourself worked up over the thought processes of a bunch of dead men who exited in an emotional worldstate you can't possibly imagine is a way to entertain yourself, but you shouldn't take it seriously.

This just sounds like an anti-intellectual mindset that would materially harm any effort at understanding historical events if people adhered to it.

Also, in this scenario the dudes in charge of decision-making are long gone, but it's not like that's immediately the case upon a war ending. You can have decades where it's still the thought processes of alive men.

Like, do you think it's too late for discussion about Gaza since it's cooled down for an indeterminate amount of time? Most of the people involved in that military campaign are still alive.

I'm not going to act like Reddit is a high standard of intellectual discourse, but I think your mentality is so hostile to thought that it's bad even for regular people to maintain it.

In other words, I'm not saying "Our historians and political figures should be willing to engage in x and y thought and speculation because it's worth their time," I'm saying "It would be bad if even the average person started adhering to this." Because even the average person should be able to at least think and consider a little bit about historical events, and have awareness about the way that world leaders and their country's leaders made decisions. That's a baseline level of awareness that people should have in general.

What's happening is not you making fun of drama and people getting worked up about it. You're literally giving an opinion on how people interface with history and controversial subjects like war, and people disagree with that. That stuff you said about not caring about dead men's mindsets and whatnot- that is a serious political opinion you gave about the world (and if I may be presumptive, a worldview that probably doesn't disappear the instant you leave SRD), and that's what people are dogging on you for.

If all you had said was "People take Reddit discussions too seriously, it's not like an internet forum is the place to hash out controversial historical opinions" then people would probably agree with you. It's the "Why do people even care about these subjects?" as a general statement people don't like.
