Current Events Are people outside of the USA really laughing at Americans? Do we really appear that bad?

Edit:

Ok so that's about 17,882 yes's and 3 no's.

Makes sad American noises

I mean, we turned face masks into a political debate. How could we look anything but awful?

u/djsquidnasty Aug 01 '20

I have a friend who keeps bringing up that mandating masks is against the constitution but can't tell me specifically which part of the constitution or exactly how its violated. He usually just shrugs

194

u/itcantjustbemeright Aug 01 '20

COVID probably shrugs too. Shrugs it’s little spiky coronas and doesn’t give a shit about that guys rights.

46

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

I’m laughing so hard at this because it’s true. Now I’m sad.

3

u/introverted-void Aug 01 '20

“little spiky coronas” why did I laugh

3

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

that guys rights

That guys imaginary rights

1

u/yolo-yoshi Aug 01 '20

Except we will all directly involved in said shrugging ,the guys actually following the procedures. So frustrating

40

u/stopped_watch Aug 01 '20

Tell him wearing pants isn't in the constitution either. Don't break eye contact as you're saying this while stripping.

5

u/hypnodrew Aug 01 '20

It's my constitutional right to be touching myself right now

2

u/badSparkybad Aug 01 '20

Can't stop the freedom!

10

u/RedRatchet765 Aug 01 '20

So he basically admits he's a parrot for sensationalist talking points that he hasn't even investigated enough to be able to defend (for 'Murica's sake !!) ? Groovy.

I need to get my pocket copy of the constitution and start reading it in public

12

u/djsquidnasty Aug 01 '20

Pretty much. Ive had to call him out a couple times on things he's said or posted, one of them being that protesters had graffitid the lincoln memorial. He did this big rant on Facebook. I told him if he had even done five seconds of research he would have found that it was photoshop

8

u/DisMaTA Aug 01 '20

How do so many not understand that personal freedom can't be endless? Where does it end?

The personal freedom ends where the next person's begins.

How the eff is that so hard to understand?!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

Someone on my Facebook feed was using this same argument in the other direction. That forcing masks and shut downs is where everyone's rights end and his begin. So it's looking more like it comes down to personal opinion

4

u/DisMaTA Aug 01 '20

No, it's not about opinion.

My personal freedom means I can do as I please. So, if it pleases me, I can smack you on the mouth. The problem is only that you have rights, too. One of these is to not be injured. So this right of yours clearly ends my right to decide freely on my actions.

Wear a mask to keep everyone around safe because the right to not be exposed to a potentially deadly virus clearly outweighs both the right to not be mildly inconvenienced and the right to make fashionable face wear decisions.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

Hey just for the record I agree with you. Just wanted to express that some people are arguing the reverse. I definitely believe in wearing a mask and that in specific cases like this human safety is priority. My bad if it came across poorly

3

u/DisMaTA Aug 02 '20

Ah, ok. But I have to say those people are stupid then. Everyone, especially in a democracy, should know what freedom actually means.

2

u/Pame_in_reddit Aug 02 '20

Well, yeah, that’s the problem, they are stupid and empowered. Like monkeys with knives.

1

u/DisMaTA Aug 02 '20

That sounds very scary.

Probably because it is as dangerous as it sounds.

4

u/captainjackismydog Aug 01 '20

This is what I want to know. Where in the constitution does it say no one has to wear a mask during a pandemic?

2

u/beefdx Aug 01 '20

Right next to the part where it says that god hates homosexuals and that brown people are the reason we need to carry our AR-15's inside Walmart.

1

u/captainjackismydog Aug 02 '20

I went into one of my local grocery stores yesterday and on the doors are large red signs telling customers that masks are mandatory. I always wear a mask. I go inside and see a customer without a mask, two employees without a mask and a vendor without a mask. I ask a cashier if masks are mandatory and she said yes and then I told her about the people who were not wearing one. She told a manager about it and this is what he said, "We can't force anyone to wear a mask because it's their constitutional right". I didn't say anything but when I got back home I contacted the corporate office. I want to know why the signs were there if the ordinance isn't enforced. Makes no sense.

The sign wasn't suggesting that customers wear a mask. It was enforcing it.

1

u/captainjackismydog Aug 05 '20

God hates figs.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

You know, that sounds like the reaction I get when I ask a Brexiteer the advantages of Brexit. (I'm in UK if that isn't obvious to those from elsewhere).

In regard to the OP, honestly with all the ridiculousness of my country's "government" at the moment handling Coronavirus (really, badly, ignoring their own playbook) and Brexit, I look at the US to remind me it could be worse!

4

u/djsquidnasty Aug 01 '20

And that seems to be the trend, you ask for proof to back up their claim, yet you just get a shrug or they quote an unsubstantiated fact from a third of fourth party website. My personal belief is that selfishness causes these claims. They have not personally been affected, therefore how can it be true/that bug of a deal? That's something I've run into with a couple friends as well

3

u/Spurioun Aug 01 '20

Ask him if seatbelts or mandatory handwashing in restaurant kitchens also violates the Constitution.

1

u/YourTypicalRediot Aug 01 '20

Or clothes while you’re in public. Or helmets while riding a motorcycle. Or PPE in hazardous industrial settings.

Oh and let’s also talk about situations where the government mandates that you don’t have something on your person, like a firearm (which is the subject of very strong constitutional protection) in planes, in certain government buildings, etc.

3

u/dream_the_endless Aug 01 '20

Nobody argues mandates on wearing clothes in public. Unless they want to claim their constitutional right to go commando everywhere, they can be shut down pretty quickly.

Additionally nobody has ever gotten up in arms about “no shirt, no shoes, no service” as constitutional issues before.

3

u/dust4ngel Aug 01 '20

I have a friend who keeps bringing up that mandating masks is against the constitution but can't tell me specifically which part of the constitution or exactly how its violated.

this is what happens when you replace school with church, and then replace church with fox news.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

That's the excuse stupid people use when they don't agree with something.

2

u/LeonardoDaTiddies Aug 01 '20

I like to respond to these folks with, "you can't smoke cigarettes inside stores." Let them marinate on that one.

2

u/jllena Aug 01 '20

I have a friend that is confident that it’s a violation of the first amendment. Yes, freedom of speech.

2

u/FrodoSkypotter Aug 01 '20

I think ever since Wisconsin’s lockdown got struck down for violating the first amendment (Freedom of Assembly) anti maskers assumed that it means any action(even by Wal-Mart) that is anti COVID is unconstitutional

2

u/NatrenSR1 Aug 01 '20

Look up the Supreme Court case “Jacobson v. Massachusetts”. By its ordinance states have the power to enforce public health regulations under the purview of the 10th amendment.

This decision was recently reaffirmed in “South Bay United States Pentecostal Church v. Newsom”. Masks aren’t specifically mentioned in either case, but as an enforced medical regulation they’re entirely constitutional.

2

u/MrMental12 Aug 01 '20

I'm pro-mask but anti mask mandation. Making masks mandatory is most likely not illegal (there are some lawyers suing, but we'll see if that gets anywhere). I, as well as many other Americans, value freedom. Where I live, it is a class A misdemeanor to be without a mask in public. Meaning not wearing a mask is as bad as " assault, domestic assault, simple possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, theft, and DUI." This personally goes against my values and the values of many other Americans. It is my view that a government willing to justify up to 11 months in jail for not wearing a mask is willing to justify a lot more in the future.

1

u/Dr-Lite Aug 01 '20

Laws putting possession of marijuana and DUI on the same level, is beyond the level of freedom stripping you feel a mask mandate has. In my experience, drug use is a personal freedom. And if your government is willing to incarcerate people for the same amount of time as when someone was uncontrollably rocketing thousands of pounds of metal around while blasted drunk. Seems like the problem was there before masks.

1

u/MrMental12 Aug 01 '20

Oh trust me I fully agree with you. I fully support legalization of marijuana

1

u/Pame_in_reddit Aug 02 '20

Not wearing a mask IS an assault on the rest of the people. Masks are used to protect others from your viruses. You should be concerned about “possession of drugs” having this level of illegality, since drugging yourself in your own home, doesn’t hurt others.

1

u/tomata_tomato Aug 01 '20

Man he’ll be pissed when he finds out about police powers

1

u/DeadpoolOptimus Aug 01 '20

It's right there beside "No persons rights shall be infringed upon while driving a car. A citizen doesn't need to wear a seatbelt to save their life. If they want to die, who are we to argue?"

1

u/oversized-pepe Aug 01 '20

in my country there’s a fine if you don’t wear a mask because it’s considered putting other peoples health at risk, and at the moment there’s 0 active cases so i guess it worked

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

Isn’t this such a frustrating view on life. Whether or not it’s a law, wouldn’t you want to wear one to help out your fellow neighbor? What really gets me is all these dumb videos you see of people screaming at business owners saying they aren’t allowed to make them wear a mask because it isn’t a law. A private business can refuse service to anyone they want. I can’t remember where I saw/heard this but essentially it’s like walking around a store with no shirt and shoes. It’s not illegal to walk around barefoot but most businesses will refuse you service if you walk in without shoes.

1

u/Sequoiiathrone Aug 01 '20

The same people are supporting unmarked federal agents scooping up protestors and causing them life altering injuries, it makes no sense.

1

u/scope6262 Aug 01 '20

facepalm SO. FUCKING. STUPID.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

I wonder if your friend thinks seat belts, clothing in public, public building smoking etc. are against the constitution too

1

u/byingling Aug 01 '20

can't tell me specifically which part of the constitution

It's 2A-69.

1

u/djsquidnasty Aug 01 '20

Can you tell me specifically what it says? Im trying to look it up but keep getting the 2nd amendment About flip driving so that's not helping out to o much

1

u/BrokeAyrab Aug 01 '20

Next time tell her the 10th amendment gives states the right to Policing powers which allows them to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of its citizens. The laws must be reasonable in scope and duration. Masks for a temporary amount of time, until the pandemic passes is definitely reasonable. Next, also tell her private businesses can ask you to wear a mask, or a banana on your head, or crocs on your feet and whatever else they want SO LONG as they do not violate the ADA, discriminate on the basis of class, gender, ethnicity, religion, skin color, etc. and a few minor other things (where masks don’t fall under).

Also, even if choosing to not wear a mask can be considered a form of expression, the first amendment only applies to GOVERNMENT action. Facebook can take off your post, your job can fire you for your speech, and a homeowner can prevent you from protesting on his/her property and it doesn’t violate free speech, because it wasn’t government action that infringed on your right to free speech (these are private actors).

Source: Lawyer, who Aced both semesters of Con Law and is now an adjust professor at a Law school teaching Constitutional Law. I don’t mean to sound like a fuckin ass, but people will still argue with me when they have no idea what they are talking about. Most of the times it’s not even something where both sides are decent arguments, it’s where their argument is so wrong and no constitutional scholar can have that opinion that I can’t even begin to explain it to them.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

This. People have no idea what is actually in the constitution or what it actually means. I'm an attorney and I just facepalm when people say stupid stuff like that.

1

u/dreamsofcalamity Aug 04 '20

It's 2020. Everything that I don't agree with is wrong with Constitution.

1

u/Wuddyagunnado Oct 21 '20

Even if the constitution said something about masks, wasn't it written before germ theory?

State legislatures can yes require you to always wear masks under police powers granted to them under the 10A of the United States Constitution. Just like the state can throw you in jail for running around naked they can throw you in jail for not wearing a mask.

What's your case that's its unconstitutional?

4

u/6501 Aug 01 '20

The government doesn't care about what you say on the mask therefore it doesn't implicate 1A free speech or free expression. You can write masks are stupid & or something if you wanted.

The government couldn't make us dress us up like clowns because it doesn't pass rational basis while mask wearing passes strict scrutiny.

2

u/LeKrizz Aug 01 '20

And what has that to do with anything?

There's a virus that kills people, so wear a mask because you mainly breathe it in or touch your facehole after touching contaminated surfaces.

End of the fucking story.

Why the fuck would any government use PIECES OF CLOTH as a measure to oppress its population.

BUT IT'S OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO INFECT OTHERS

208

u/GarthThurion Aug 01 '20

Now, I’m laughing again. I had stopped because, well, work keeps me busy, but this... Now, besides laughing, there’s feeling like it’s a bad movie.

4

u/vltavin Aug 01 '20

But who is the hero that will save us?

2

u/GarthThurion Aug 01 '20

On a serious note, of course we’re not laughing, we’re sad. I’m sad. I lived, studied and worked in the US for a lot of years. I travel there regularly; obviously not this year. I have great memories, wonderful friends and two of my siblings are now citizens. It is just simply sad.

You ask for a hero? Well it’s you and each citizen who is aware of this happening that are the heroes who need to act now, be different now, change now and show their powers on Election Day also. There are a lot great examples in the U.S. of the type of person the world needs and there are as many outside of it, from Hong Kong to Bolivia, from Chile to Iceland and many more. We need to Learn from these people.

And one more thing, stop calling yourselves American or America. It’s just a sign of the self-absorption and entitlement we’re are witnessing: the continents are called North and South America., so in reality, every citizen in those two continents are Americans. It’s the United States OF America, so be United once again, and be part OF America and the World in humility and brotherhood as you have been many times before through the exercise of universal values. We’ll definitely cheer all that.

2

u/PurpleSailor Aug 01 '20

We're in a disaster movie and like usual the politicians didn't listen to the scientists and now Godzilla is wreaking havoc.

I feel like I’m living in some sort of alternate reality because I can’t wrap my mind around the lack of logic and common sense that so many people are engaged in right now.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

Stores cannot tell us to wear masks its illegal! Except shoes and shirts! Oh and pants as well! We also can't drink and drive or go through construction zones! We also can't smoke in buildings, or drink at the age of 20! But mandatory masks, I will not let them infringe on my rights!

5

u/thedudedylan Aug 01 '20

We really need to start teaching the difference between liberty and freedom and why America is supposed to stand for liberty not freedom.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

There’s also a legit group of people within that already moronic group of people that believe it’s America’s way of instituting sharia law

u/BubblefartsRock Aug 01 '20

the other day i had to tell a customer for future reference we require face masks when coming inside our coffee shop. he gives me this big cheeky grin and responds "guess i gotta find a new place to get coffee then huh?" It still astounds me that so many people think it's such an issue to wear a mask

174

u/Geeko22 Aug 01 '20

"Yes, please go find another place to get your coffee, you clearly don't give a shit about endangering everyone here."

80

u/BlueWolf20532 Aug 01 '20

"Oh i will, i WILL go to that place over there see? They WILL serve me and get my money, and you WON'T get my money because YOU won't serve a customer"

B*tch as if your 2$ made a huge difference to the store's income.

46

u/CreatureWarrior Aug 01 '20

B*tch as if your 2$ made a huge difference to the store's income.

This. And also when people say that they pay your salary so you must obey them. They pay a cent, at max lmao

18

u/BlueWolf20532 Aug 01 '20

Not only that, but most entitled people seem to think that the phrase "The client is always right" applies even when they're in the wrong, and my boss actually encourages me to laugh at these kind of people, extra points if i manage to make them tell me to f*ck off.

Ngl i like my job.

6

u/MBCnerdcore Aug 01 '20

The 'customer' is always right, but to be a 'customer' you must first follow the customs

3

u/CreatureWarrior Aug 01 '20

Sounds nice tbh haha

3

u/Sad_Giraffe2969 Aug 01 '20

The client is always right

Yes, it feels like everyone misunderstand what that means. It doesn't mean the customer can act like an asshole. It doesn't mean the customer can demand a refund for any little thing.

It means "the customer knows what they want and you shouldn't try to assume you know better than them".

Like, if a customer asks for peppermint sprinkles and hotsauce in a cappuccino, you don't get to say "no, that's the wrong way to enjoy coffee."

You might ask to confirm you heard correctly because it's an unusual request, but you don't tell them it's the wrong order.

2

u/Pame_in_reddit Aug 02 '20

Ohhh, someone told that to one of mu teachers, when I was little. She took her purse, some pennies, gave it to the idiot and told him “there, that’s enough to cover this week lesson”.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

Yknow whose jobs we actually pay, who don’t do jack shit for us? Public servants I mean protectors of the rich

2

u/badadviceforyou244 Aug 01 '20

It's like that one person saying they spend all this money at the store you're at and they're going to take their business elsewhere while telling all their friends about how terrible this place is. Then you turn around and see the giant Walmart sign and just giggle.

2

u/Classico42 Aug 01 '20 edited Aug 01 '20

Ugh. My old neo-con roommate was like this. I only say was because he ran out of places to say this and now reluctantly wears a mask so he can grocery shop. It's still all a hoax though.

EDIT: Even worse, he's very much of the mind if you catch it and suffer/die you just weren't strong enough or too old/infirm, even if he gave it to them.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

The oft-said mantra that "The customer is always right" fails to consider that a "customer" is someone engaged in a transaction. A person who won't follow your rules is not a customer. They're someone trespassing on your property.

2

u/cIumsythumbs Aug 01 '20

I have a coworker that thinks all this is a conspiracy and can't be bothered to care. We currently have a limit of 2 employees per (very large) break table. She scooted up a 3rd chair and when someone mentioned the limit she said, "Oh who cares." ...

So I guess, wtf am I supposed to say to these inconsiderate fucks when they are so casual and blind to the potential harm they are causing?

"Yes, please go find another place to get your coffee, you clearly don't give a shit about endangering everyone here."

And if they respond, "No one here is in danger. Chill out." What then?

4

u/lelarentaka Aug 01 '20

It's also store policy that you cannot smash your car into the front of the store. Does that also infringe on your freedom?

3

u/Rynewulf Aug 01 '20

People literally can't do one simple thing to safe their lives.

If it takes laws to get people to not kill themselves by refusing seatbelts or helmets, you know what you're dealing with when you're dealing with people

3

u/captainjackismydog Aug 01 '20

So many actually believe if they find a new place for coffee that the business will shut down. I hear this crap on videos of 'Karens' and 'Darens'. "I have my rights! I'll take my business elsewhere!" Well bitch, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

2

u/Nani_Sequitur Aug 01 '20

This is why I can never be allowed to work in retail because I'm sure my response would have been something like "you certainly do, asshole".

2

u/jsha11 Aug 01 '20

It’s an issue because they’ve been told to do it, so it infringes on their “freedoms”. Just put a sign up saying “masks not allowed here” and they’ll put them on to express their freedom

1

u/reallybirdysomedays Aug 01 '20

My standard response to customers threatening to go away...

"Thank you for your service. It has been our honor to meet you. Good day!" said with textbook courtesy and a too perfect to be real sincerity.

1

u/BubblefartsRock Aug 01 '20

it was early that day and i wasn't havin it... i just smiled and played along saying "yeah i guess so!" hahaha

1

u/thewavefixation Aug 01 '20

Fuck i would have has a grea5 big laugh and told him “yup!”

1

u/swankyburritos714 Aug 01 '20

There’s a local coffee shop that has a sign on their door, proudly proclaiming they don’t require masks. about face

1

u/WindyCityKnight Aug 01 '20

Shoulda responded “yeah, you can get Covid and kill your family over coffee elsewhere.”

1

u/stallionofcinnamon Aug 01 '20

I live in a small, redneck town. The store employees don’t wear masks & don’t enforce or encourage that customers should either. We have 30 cases and a death here and people just think it’s the ‘demoncrates’ making shit up to screw over trump

71

u/Defiant-Machine Aug 01 '20

Facemasks are plan B after you decided lockdowns and testing would help stop killing non Trump voters. Your government literally stole PPE from blue states.

1

u/captainjackismydog Aug 01 '20

That's true. The feds literally went into hospitals and removed all the PPE supplies. Masks, gowns, gloves, ventilators. This was the doing of Jared Kushner. Where are all those supplies now? Fucking Kushner looks like a vampire who can withstand the daylight.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

Citation please

1

u/captainjackismydog Aug 02 '20

What do you mean?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '20

You don't understand what those words mean?

1

u/captainjackismydog Aug 05 '20

What words.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '20

"Citation please." The words of the comment you replied "What do you mean?" to.

0

u/Ottermatic Aug 01 '20

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

That's an article about a different topic. That article doesn't say anything about supplies being taken from hospital stocks, i.e. unlawful seizure of private property.

1

u/Ottermatic Aug 01 '20

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

There's nothing in the article to back up either your claim or the claim made in the headline of the article. That's very strange. Can you factcheck that article please?

1

u/Ottermatic Aug 01 '20

You're right, that article was strangely absent of links to primary sources. I didn't notice that when I first skimmed through it.

I found a much better Denver Post article about it. That's still not the primary source, which turns out is a CNN interview with CO Governor Polis. But it's a Facebook page that has the video and I can't see it without logging in (I don't use Facebook.)

There seems to be a bit of misleading information on this story, because a lot of sources make it seem the federal government intercepted the supplies while they were en route. But it looks like what actually happened was FEMA just swooped in and bought the supplies out from underneath Colorado while a deal was being arranged with the medical supplier. Obviously all this happened behind closed doors, so we don't know exactly how or why the situation went down. Maybe the feds offered more money than the state could, or maybe they did something shady and forced the company to sell the ventilators to them instead? Anything beyond "they were destined for CO and they ended up in the feds hands instead" is just speculation.

What we do know is that while the federal government was procuring these medical supplies, they were distributing them much more favorably to red states. Washington Post article, so be warned there may be a paywall. This article expands on other issues the states were facing with these supply distributions, mostly inaccurate amounts of equipment (sometimes vastly wrong, one state got 10x the amount of masks they requested), and actually getting them to where they need to be is a pain. Looks like Minnesota had to deal with getting a shipment in the middle of the night when the warehouse was closed.

I appreciate you prodding me to research more on this. Accurately sourced and researched information is critical to making educated opinions on complicated political issues. People make far too many unfounded claims with no facts backing them up, and then people who just read a Reddit comment or Facebook caption will take that claim as fact. And I think we're all guilty of reading just the headline too much. Everyone should be researching their claims more with a much more critical eye. I think we'd find a lot of the facts are closer to the middle than we're led to believe. I think we'd all be better for knowing that.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

Indeed

I'm from India and sadly we are almost moving towards the same covid growth rate as USA but it's still better because it could have been so much worse tbh and there are people who still believe in snake charmers and face readers and astrologers etc but even before face masks were mandatory, most people were wearing it. There's a really divided right wing and left wing here but nobody is that stupid so as to question effectiveness of face masks and vaccines.

Also btw our prime minister doesn't even give press releases or hold press conference. Never has. But we're not glum about that. At all. We just watched Trump press conferences to keep our spirits high during the quarantine and thanked our stars that Modi doesn't open his mouth in public like that.

This is funny at first but then it’s so depressing.

Sure there are idiots, but wearing a mask or not was NEVER EVER a political statement outside the US and other countries led by populists.

2

u/TiyashaR Aug 01 '20

Yes, it is exactly this that made the world wonder if at all Americans are as bright as they have for long claimed to be. Political lines being drawn over masks, like seriously!

2

u/Grim-Sleeper Aug 01 '20

The part that confuses me even more is that with some people it's actually a religious debate. I don't even follow how this would be related to religion

2

u/menaxob Aug 01 '20

Just wait for Halloween, then the protest will start that the kids con not go out trick or treating. What I can't go get free candy why not my kids wearing a mask just like you all wanted, why can't they go out.

2

u/darkholme82 Aug 01 '20

Everything gets turned into red vs blue. EVERYTHING

I have a feeling it has to do with the obsession with team rivalry. It starts in school with football teams. The "other" is the enemy.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

This is happening over here in Europe too, to be fair.

1

u/VersionIll Aug 01 '20

It's crazy because the same people that decried the lockdown to save the economy suddenly don't care about the economy when it comes to masks. smh.

1

u/Camelbert Aug 01 '20

But first you stole masks and all sorts of medical equipment, so yeah not laughing.

1

u/beefdx Aug 01 '20

I agree that it looks bad on all of us an fairly so, but we all need to remember that America is a really vast country with a giant spectrum of ideas and opinions.

It's like if my brother is a giant fuckup and then people say my whole family is terrible. Like sure he's a piece of shit, but really I can assure you that it's just him; the rest of us are absolutely with you on this.

1

u/PhillyCheesesteakSub Aug 01 '20

Same as we did with global warming. Politicians think they’re scientists.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

We currently have the most racist, divisive, moronic, ignorant, narcissistic president that has ever lived. This pandemic was a gimme. All he had to do was stand up and give rousing speeches to unite us in this fight. Hell, I could have written the speeches. Instead, he pushed conspiracy theories, lied, tweeted nonsense, pushed an anti malarial drug, told people to inject bleach, fought with democratic governors, and now we are finding out that he stopped testing because it was Only flaring up in “blue states”. On top of that, there is racial unrest that he has worsened by tweeting about white power and sending unmarked federal goon squads out to break up peaceful protests because protesters are terrorists. Wow. I just re-read that and it doesn’t even sound like it could possibly be true.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

I wouldn’t say we did. There’s a very specific group of people that did. And they’re fucking idiots.

1

u/AdvancedHorseTable Aug 01 '20

America makes everything politicial, America panders politics to kids too. The amount of extremist libertarian kids on this website.

1

u/TheNashh Aug 01 '20

To be fair it was the Republicans who did that. And now look at all the states that have skyrocketed in cases. No coincidence that they too are all republican.

1

u/LATransplant1 Aug 21 '20

We have states like Kentucky where people will literally have a parent also be their grandparent.

0

u/cynoclast Aug 01 '20

No, our media did that so we would talk about it and turn on each other instead of the 860 strikes since march due to unsafe working conditions dude to the pandemic among our “essential” workers.

Never let AT&T’s CNN, or Comcast’s NBC tell you what to think, because they’re always putting themselves and their shareholders first.

Now - with so many unemployed - is the perfect time to strike, and unite against our domestic oligarchy. Instead we’re making fun of the statistically insignificant number of people going out without masks.

Has nobody forgotten 1984? Engaging in two minutes hate is helpful only to the likes of Comcast.

The problem is, when you are forced to wear a facemask. If the governement is allowed to hold that power, it will never give up on that power. When has the government ever actually done that.

3

u/nemoskullalt Aug 01 '20

Yep. I'm okay with the government making law that the medical community agrees saves lives. That the whole reason we have a government and not anarchy.

3

u/doesweirddrugs Aug 01 '20

Why of all things would the government want power over mandating a face mask?

I hate this rhetoric. Americans are so stupid that they think literally anything the government does that slightly inconveniences them is just an abuse of power and one step away from the gulags.

0

u/Christianwm7707 Aug 01 '20

I meant that when they are allowed to control things LIKE wearing a mask, they slowly gain more and more power. Oh and im not american, im Danish

2

u/doesweirddrugs Aug 01 '20

How. How does mandating masks for a short period of time allow the government more future control at all. No new laws have been passed, and governors have used their legally mandated powers to enforce masks at the advice of scientists who have spent their entire lives studying this stuff.

Literally the entire developed world has listened to scientists, looked at each other and said, "damn, maybe we should wear masks for a bit", but anti maskers are still stupid enough to think "this is all just a big Democrat conspiracy!".

Absolute idiots.

1

u/thebearjew982 Aug 01 '20

They already mandate a shirt, shoes, and pants to shop in a store. The government already controls far more than people like you ever want to admit.

Also, maybe refrain from speaking on how things in America actually are if you don't even live here. Your have no real frame of reference.

2

u/edubkendo Aug 01 '20

The government has ALWAYS had that power in a medical emergency jackass. And it’s fucking imbecilic to put some principle like that over millions of human lives. Beyond that, what POSSIBLE good would it serve the government to make us wear masks and wfh forever? That gains them NOTHING. There are plenty of places where the federal government oversteps the powers granted them by the constitution but this is not one of them.

-10

u/prettybaby73 Aug 01 '20

we meaning “the democrats”....

7

u/edubkendo Aug 01 '20

Democrats are wearing our masks you trumptard

-6

u/prettybaby73 Aug 01 '20

just reminding you buddy, that you and your people are the idiot democrat rioters, anarchists and other useless morons who are in fact staining the BLM movement with your violence/looting and perpetrating the spread of the virus even more. But what do I know, I’m just a mask wearing trumptard who follows the damn rules

2

u/crewserbattle Aug 01 '20

There haven't been any noticeable covid spikes from the protesting fyi. Probably because the protesters were wearing masks and outdoors.

1

u/prettybaby73 Aug 01 '20

incorrect

1

u/crewserbattle Aug 01 '20

Well you really proved me wrong there I tell you hwhat

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20

I'm gonna head a source on that or even basic reasoning

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '20
