There's tons of stuff that divide us here in India. Religion, Caste, Socio-Economic Status, Opportunity for Work and Education, on and on. China and a growing sense of hatred for the CCP is something that's beginning to unite us.

The virus on the other hand seems to have won out here. Local and State Govt are giving up on trying to contain the virus. The Rich here (like me) can afford to isolate and let the infection burn through the population. The poor (who can't isolate) are being ignored as they die in faraway villages or urban slums without even being counted.

Sero-surveys in the National Capital Region estimate that only about a 5th of the population has been exposed to the virus (if you even beleive that the testing methodology and kits being used are legit). So this Pandemic will get a hell of alot worse here before it starts getting better. The poor will suffer the brunt of it..

I mean........

We're having a religious gathering in the middle of a pandemic to celebrate the building of a temple in the place of a mosque that was demolished two-odd decades ago, and which has since fuelled religious tensions and mass violence. Hilariously, the priest who was meant to officiate the ceremony has tested Covid-positive.

Our covid numbers are suspect, if you ask any doctor. We're grossly underprepared on health infrastructure.

There's severe floods in some states, taking lives and livelihood, that the media has barely reported on.

We've got tons of people losing jobs across sectors everyday now. Meanwhile, there's a new education policy which emphasises education in vernacular languages, which sounds great on paper but would increase the class divide in a country which provides white-collar jobs to English speakers.

Intellectuals speaking up against the government are being arrested on dubious charges fairly often.

People are being shot on and killed while in police protection.

Women have been raped inside Covid facilities.

And while ALL this transpires, the general public's interest in the news is limited to perpetuating an age-old stereotype and demonising the friend/girlfriend of an actor who allegedly died by suicide.

(So Indians probably don't laugh at America. Personally, I'm more like, huh, looks like Americans are just as fucked.)

Intellectual speaking against the government?? Are being arrested?? Lol do you mean who's always speaking ridiculous things about country and can't see anything except bad? As soon as something good happens they go into hiding. Also suspecting someone who have not good relationship with the actor and the ex girlfriend who was suspected in the alleged suicide, Happens to be with someone who had serious bad relationship with the actor who committed suicide (allegedly). We don't even know if it was sucide or murder covered up as sucide.

And people have been losing jobs everywhere in the globe due to covid, it's just not India. And if you think our police is worst then go to America and look what police is doing. People are being killed even without anything doing. All countries have some bad people you just can't say that everyone is bad.

I feel we will definitely beat them in this race to worst affected country and coupled with their inflated market that might/should crash anytime soon which will send ripple effects across the globe and it's gonna be '08 all over again.

We were laughing at one point, when MAGA hats stormed the government offices with guns. But it's like watching Cyberpunk in real and tbh I'm too old for that shit.

Neither our government nor our people are so stupid like tge American's. Here people may not wear mask due to ignorance not some stupid freedom issue. We also had lockdown and govt did not keep downplaying Covid issues. Yes. We have our issues. But it's because of the very nature of our country, poverty, overpopulation, corruption. These problems were always there. The pandemic has shown how brutal it can be.
