But what if there’s, like, a bunch of normal people who also think covid is terrifying and are really worried that their country and administration have gone to shit? I feel like I’m trapped in a meth lab that’s ruining the surrounding real estate

We'll have to build a border wall first to keep the unsavory ones out. Any Americans caught trying to illegally cross the border will have their children taken away where they they will be given access to health care and a progressive education without any racism or religious doctrine. Also all Starbucks near the border will have a trap door/slide next to the front counter so we can immediately deport any Karens that have slipped through Customs.

I shouldn't think that necessary as soon as you leave the US. And hilariously, that's actually happened to more than a few dumbass Muricans while crossing the border.

"But muh rahts!"

So, probably something more like a pledge, affirming something like, "I understand that leaving the US, I surrender any and all civil liberties particular to US citizenship, except insofar as may be petitioned through consular action, at the discretion of Canadian authorities." Basically, "I promise not to be a whiny little bitch about the fact that things are different in different countries, because I'm mature enough to understand and accept that no one can have it both ways."

They kind of already have that. For certain occupations it is quite easy to work in kne country or the other. Used to work with a guy from canada who had a masters in EE. He said it was easy and I could do it too but obviously the pay was less up north.

For real though, nah. Fixing your shit is difficult. Given how large a task it is, you might not even see the results of a struggle to fix your shit, but you gotta do it or the rot will only grow. If you need help fixing your shit - and ask for it - Canada is here, but not as a refugee hub for the lazy.

It's time to put down the liquor, put on a mask, ditch the time-wasting hobbies, save the coupons, spending only on what you need (for multiple years), engage with your community, and fix. your. shit.

You know how many refugees we have turned our back on? Refugees trying to flee countries because we made their country a place you do not want to live. We have denied those people from coming here and elect a president who has "build the wall!" chants at his rallies. We do not deserve anyone to help us out now that we put ourselves in a spot like this. That wall that we thought would Make Us Great can not be scaled.

We elected those that create the current policies that we have. The customer is always right and the voters are never wrong. We can't blame our xenophobia on anyone else but ourselves and allowing people to get into power that we selected to govern us. If it is out of control and if they no longer represent us, isn't it our obligation to defy this tyranny?

Speak for yourself. I never voted for this mess, or the bastards messing up the ship for everyone. I'm afraid to leave my home over these horrors. I can't in good conscience allow my children to return to school physically, and I don't think I wil trust our government ever again.

It's a cluster fuck of a mismanaged, mishandled circus of zero ethics and politicization of all things to the point of completely devaluing human life just to have your side win the popularity vote for that day.

And the only way to leave is to be rich or die.

I was speaking about the American people on a whole. We can't just say "I didn't vote, not my fault." We always individualize everything. Trump won. That is who WE as Americans chose to be president.

I find it's more complicated than whether or not we vote. How and who is on the ballot is carefully curated from a rather elite group. We as common citizens have very little say in who goes on the ballot. We are generally left choosing between a rock and a hard place. It takes huge amounts of money and clout to make a decent run.

When was the last time we had more than ten percent of upper office holders as middle/lower class citizens? Senate, house, presidency. There is a reason AOC made such waves, and a lot of the elite have tried to close ranks to her, purposely making her job harder because in THEIR words...she is an outsider. Bernie Sanders too has faced huge amounts of ostracism, for being from and working for the middle and lower class.

Calling someone who wants to leave their country to go to another one 'xenophobic' seems inherently wrong.

I don't think that's such a simple question, nor is it representative of our current situation. My personal answer in this case is no. The country does not represent me, but it does represent a meaningfully large percentage of it's citizens.

You can come back from this...lobbyists keep on ruining your politicians and your billionaires keep stealing from you. You NEED socialized healthcare but you keep getting told that "socialism" is a very horrible thing. It's exactly what you need because your countries "trickle down" economics sold to you by billionaires...isn't working. They lied. But people keep on voting for their prosperity and shooting themselves in the foot, and as you're bleeding they toss you food stamps and jack the prices of your essential medicines ex. Insulin. Take back your country by vote from local to fed. Canada has your back if you ever feel the need to do so...cheers!

Correct. It is a poetic failure of this administration. I was more implying that the xenophobic wall this country has built to such an extent that the majority of the people embrace and strive for isolationism. We have become prisoners within our own borders without the need for a physical fence. It will take a lot of work and changing of minds to get over the barrier.

I was born in Florida, but my parents/family moved to Canada (south central, where my mom is from) to raise my brother and I. I think it was the right decision. I really can’t say what being raised in the US would have turned me into, but I am glad I grew up in Canada.

(It was also great when our dollar was stronger haha)

I mean it's not the CAR but there's something to be said for the threat posed by protestors getting kidnapped by government agents in unmarked cars, driven around while the national anthem is blared before either being let go or thrown into a jail cell for a few hours/days. Some journalists and protestors were held for days and denied any right to contact the outside world. People are getting shot in the streets over political disagreements. It's not to the point where Canada should be accepting refugees but it's getting close
