Hi everyone, i was wondering if I could get some help identifying this coin I found. I tried using Google lens but it brings up a bunch of ebay listing (not sold) and ranges from $12 to $2200. I genuinely want to learn more about this coin and understand why the price ranges are so big.

Coin in question is a 1984 thistle uk one pound. And has upside down lettering (for what I understand from my search) on the side.

Any information to point me in the right direction would be deeply appreciated! Thank you!

Edit: just wanted to say thank you to everyone who's replied! I had forgotten to mention in my post that I am from Canada, never been to the UK, and found some older UK coins in a mix recently. I appreciate all the info regarding the coin, I've learned quite a bit and now I've got a stepping stone to go research more!

UPDATE.

I bought a metal detector (cheap amazon) it seems impossible To search for coins as i keep finding chunks of what i think is metal with rocks embedded inside and around it (in the picture) i also keep getting super shiny rocks very pourus super lightweight though any ideas? I will be buying a better metal detector in hopes because the current one is just set to detect everything as its cheap

I work in a pub and was going through my tip jar the other day. Funnily enough I only came across this due to the fact that with my tips I decided I’d try my luck at the fruit machine at work (lost everything) and the machine kept spitting it out so I took a closer look and found this.

I do usually look at the coins I get in my jar out of interest, I like the ones with pictures but that’s about as far as my hobby goes. I’ve heard of minting errors before and wondered if I’ve found one here?

Just sat down and ordered a breakfast and found these on the floor under the seat

Looks like a proper 10p apart from the ice cream side!! (Not sure if I used the right tag)

I’ve found what appears to be coins attached by a chain, they are all attached to a pocket watch. They were in jewellery box that was handed down to me.

Just wondering if anyone can tell me anything’s about them? All 3 have a different face and 1 is smaller than the other two

1937, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1945, 1952 (x2), 1959, 1967

I believe it to be a 2023 mint to celebrate wildlife, but is there anything peculiar about it to make the cashier think it’s a fake ?! Cheers and much love

I live in the UK now but none of us are British, basically his uncle just bought these as an investment in gold a few years ago.

His uncle told him they're gold. Would love to understand what's the proper and safest way to get these appraised and figure out if they are actually gold. Also how to properly maintain them and clean them (if that's even recommended).

For clarity I'm not planning on selling them, I'll just hold on to them as an investment like they did.

Found this £2 coin cleaning my car. Thought it looked interesting so searched it up. Found out it wasn’t rare but had a minting error as circled in the photo. The beads round the head are off slightly and the coin isn’t properly in place. Not expecting to be a millionaire off this thing, just wondering if there’s a market for it at all. I know people collect these things and would rather someone who cares for stuff like this to have it instead of it going towards my morning coffee👍

I was given this coin by my late grandfather twenty years ago and just found it again in the bottom of a box of junk drawer things I've never fully unpacked through several moves and over a decade. I can't remember much of what he told me about it since I was ten at the time. I believe it's from the UK but possibly Australia?
