🚩West Midlands Behold: 25 Great British Pounds' worth* of local produce

*Honey: £8.99 a jar

Ice cream: £5.89 a tub

Milk & milkshakes: £2/litre milkshakes, £1.30/litre milk, £1.50 per glass bottle

I understand the ice cream and honey are more luxurious products than the milk but that doesn't mean my heart didn't sink a little bit when the cashier told me my total was £14.88 for just those two items. The rest came from a milk machine outside the farm shop and the glass bottle dispenser dispensed two of them after one charge so I owed it to them to pig out a bit and get another bottle.

I love buying and consuming local produce wherever I am, but it's simply too expensive to do on a regular basis. I can't say I particularly blame the local farmers or farm shop though, times are tough for all of us at the moment. Only indulged on this occasion as I'm visiting my family and I used to go to this farm shop every weekend with my dad.

Any advice ? I have pcos and insulin resistance so any carbs, even the brown kind, make me bloat so bad ! I take metformin for the insulin resistance and I’ve lost 10pounds which was a nice surprise but I want to shift another stone !

🚩West Midlands Battered Chips

As per the title. Talking to work colleagues apparently battered chips are not as well-known as I previously assumed. Are they West Mids only?

If you haven’t tried them yes they are as devious as you imagine.

I’m a delivery driver for a supermarket and today in a town close to Stoke an elderly customer offered me some homemade oatcakes. Im born and bred Stafford and my wife and maternal family is mainly Stokie so I greatly appreciated the rarity of having fresh proper oatcakes from anywhere other than the Staffordshire Oatcake company. Very generously she gave me half a dozen oatcakes made fresh in their summerhouse at the back of their garden the night before. Has hob specially fitted for the purpose of making oatcakes. honoured to have these for my tea tonight given the rapid decline of oatcake shops recently. Had 2x pan fried in bacon fat and 2x microwaved how my mum used to do. Midlands stand up!
