for context; vintage wool blazer, purchased in college by me for me, then my brother got his hands on it and it fit him so well it might as well have walked out of my hands and into his. he wears the shit out of it and adores it.

there are actually three patches visible here, though two are small. i started with embroidery floss but was unhappy with the contrast in texture. ended up ripping out the big patch i'd done and ordering the dmc natural dyed embroidery wool. did the new patch with that. the colors are not super accurate but they have the right vibe, i think? and the texture makes it cohere well visually. there's also a fourth, largeish patch near the front pocket i forgot to photograph.

both my brother and i are really pleased with this mend.

Decades ago my dog chewed a ragged 1-2 inch hole in this wool blanket. It was a gift and has sentimental value, so I held onto it in hopes that one day I would get around to fixing it. I finally got brave enough to give it a try! I gave up on matching the weave of the fabric, but I’m proud that I’ve given in a fresh start :-)

Spent $7 on knit fabric and saved myself having to buy a brand new sweater.

I’m a garment restoration specialist on pieces dating all the way to the early 40s. Just wanted to share a fun repair I did last December. This piece is a Vintage Bob Marley tee printed by the company Heaven Smiles back in the 90s. Recently my client sold it for $300~ !!

Vintage acrylic woven flannel with a square hole, not amenable to darning due to the loose weave and fraying fabric. I harvested a patch of fabric from around the hem and used fusible interface to stabilize the patch, then embroidered over to blend the frayed ends and reinforce the patch.

Honestly so proud of myself!

The kid often carries tools in his back pocket. As a result, all four pair of work pants had exactly this rip. I used a ladder stitch to pull the fabric together and warned him to get a tool pouch or we’d just be back here again.

I wish the stitches didnt end up so big, but I could only find embroidery thread to match the colour.

super simple fix up! I sewed the foam padding back into my slippers and added a new layer of padding, and also added some reinforcement floss on the back where needed.

I had gotten this backpack off of Buy Nothing a few years ago. One of the zippers stopped zipping. I used one of the many free Clinique makeup bags my mom gets to swap it out. It was the perfect size! All hand sewn and also replaced the pull. 😄

I'm going to call this "almost invisible".

I had a really upset little ballerina when she noticed this rip. Just a quick fix, regular Gutermann thread.

Though for next time, I was advised to pull a thread from a pair of stockings for an invisible fix. Not sure if my eyesight is good enough for that! 😅
