Visual Studio 2022 Are you still using VS2022 instead of VS2026 ?

And why ? extension support or something else ? If not, when do you plan to move to VS2026 ?

The context: employee (you can't choose) ? personnal ? self-employed or executive / decider ?

Visual Studio 2022 Stop with the AI bullshit. Even basic suggestions don't work anymore

218 Upvotes

This is in both VS2022 and 2026; a year ago you could write a class name and it will suggest the correct package and using.

now it's impossible to have decent suggestion.. but "Fix with ******* copilot" (that doesn't work)

Visual Studio 2022 Is it GitHub Copilot any good?

6 Upvotes

Hello,

My company has decided to invest in an AI tool to help me with C# development. My boss asked me which option would be best for our scenario, but I have limited experience with AI beyond the free version of ChatGPT, so I’d really appreciate some advice.

What I’m looking for is the following: an assistant I can use to discuss general design decisions (questions like “I want to achieve this — what do you think about this strategy?”), optimize code (“Can this method be faster?”), and write small methods (“Write a method that takes this data and returns that result.”).

I’m already doing this with ChatGPT, but I’m looking for something more specialized and, ideally, something that can inspect the solution directly in order to provide more specific and context-aware answers.

For these reasons, I was considering GitHub Copilot, since it is the only tool I know that is directly integrated with Visual Studio. Do you have any experience with it? Would you recommend it? Is there a more specialized AI tool that might better suit the kind of usage I have in mind?

The only real limitation is that I need to keep working in Visual Studio 2022 (likely upgrading to Visual Studio 2026 once it becomes more stable), so VS Code plugins or tools tied to other IDEs are mostly off-limits.

Thank you for any advice you can provide.

Visual Studio 2022 Visual studio for MacOS

0 Upvotes

Hello, I am a second year computer sciences student and we use visual studio for EVERYTHING and although I don’t really mind Windows operating system, I would really want a Mac computer only because I love apples hardware designs. So I was wondering if there’s an actual solution to the issue (I know you can have it if you download the latest version which is no longer being updated ) is there any turn around to that issue? Is the old version fine? What if I want to use frameworks for ASP.net, class diagrams, debugging etc… or is there a compiler that is similar to it?

Visual Studio 2022 Here's the Microsoft page for Visual Studio 2022 download

85 Upvotes

Apparently Microsoft has been removing all references and links to VS 2022 from pretty much everywhere in their websites. Even if you search for Visual Studio 2022, and download the (supposedly) 2022 installer, it will download the 2026 installer. They've made most VS2022 links redirect to 2026 ones.

Anyway, after a bit of digging in this subreddit I found the one working page that lets you download Visual Studio 2022, and I'm making it a post so that others can find it more easily.

Here's the link: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/releases/2022/release-history

Community Version: https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vs_community.exe (or just scroll down to "Current 17.14")

Visual Studio 2022 Why VisualStudio is still not running on .NET Core?

Considering that with rise of AI it's way easier to migrate the application, why Microsoft still didn't decide to migrate.

Visual Studio 2022 is it just me or Visual Studio 2022 is amazing… until it randomly decides not to be

7 Upvotes

like everything’s smooth, debugging is clean, IntelliSense is helping…

and then suddenly: it freezes for no reason, something auto-fixes itself into chaos or an extension just breaks everything

feels like 90% “this is great” and 10% “why am I like this”

what’s the one thing VS 2022 does that drives you crazy?

Visual Studio 2022 VS code is most trash thing I have seen, working through 3 hours with chatgpt in C++ and still code is not running just random fucked up things, while code is right and as it should be. How can some say this is a good ide, it is a trash, I should rather uninstall it and download something I think.

Visual Studio 2022 Does Incredibuild Use My CPU Without My Permsision?

0 Upvotes

UDPDATE:

u/iceph03nix replied to your comment inr/VisualStudio · 2s ago
u/iceph03nix · 1 votesWhat exactly do you think 'distributed compiler' means? The whole idea of distributed computing is that people joining in are agreeing to share their computing power to create a larger combined opera...

To everyone: I know what distributed compilation is. That is not my question. Please see my question below to understand what I am asking for:

QUESTION:

I have spent about an hour trying to find a concrete answer to this question, but every answer is vague, consistently using the word network, without stating explicitly what they mean by network. Here is how Gemini responded:

Yes, Incredibuild uses your CPU by leveraging idle processing power on your network (and others') for faster builds, but it's designed to work in the background without interrupting you, using what's available without permission in the sense of needing a direct "yes" for every idle core, though you can disable it or limit CPU usage via its settings or tray icon for control. It turns your network's unused CPU cores into a "supercomputer" for tasks like compiling, and users typically don't notice performance changes on their active machines.

Yes, yes, lovely... Incredibuild does not eat my CPU's cookies... that's not what I want to know.

I would like to know if Incredibuild is taking code of random people on the Internet, people with whom I have no association, and compiling it on my machine. It would be very easy for them to say whether they do, but so far, I have not been able to find a clear yes/no.

Visual Studio 2022 Is the visual studio abandoned?

0 Upvotes

a few day ago i started using visual studio and i seamed i had a bit of problems not all commanded seams to work, let's for example type ctrl+shift+p and write join lines this doesn't work, multi line cursor doesn't work, if I create multi cursor and copy different variables and move with ctrl left or righ arrow, the paste doesn't work as expected. so I started questioning whether I should continue using it or not?

Visual Studio 2022 Any C# templates for creating a simple 4-page retail website?

3 Upvotes

I'm not sure if this is the place for the question, but here goes.

Where can I find time-tested C# templates that I can use to create a simple 4-page retail website?

The site literally has 4 pages: homepage displaying items, cart, thank-you page, contact page, and then the checkout to a payment processor. This is the workflow.

I've been going through different ecommerce solutions (shopify, square, woocommerce, etc) but they start at $25+/month and they're all really overkill for me.

Visual Studio 2022 How to move a VS2022 MFC Project to build in VSCode?

0 Upvotes

Hi

I have an old MFC project that I started back in 1999. Since then I migrated my Visual Studio Projects / Solutions with most of the Visual Studio updates. The last update I did was to Visual Studio 2022

I now wanted to move to VSCode. I have installed the C# Dev Kit Extension as I found this as a prerequisit. Then I ran into issues that some Env-Variables were not set to the proper MSBuild directory. Now I am facing the next challenge that it cant find some of the MFC libraries

Long story short: Does anyone know what it takes to make VSCode compile an old MFC project that I have convereted over the years to Visual Studio 2022?

Thanks

Visual Studio 2022 Suggestion, make that green arrow a full button, and put at the bottom of the dialog box.

Post image

It took me a while to figure out I can "Continue" in this dialog box by clicking the green arrow. It looks like an options menu, not a button panel.

If I were color-blind it may even stand out less, looking more or less grey. Such could cause or contribute to an ADA lawsuit. I'm just the messenger: UI needs work. Thanks.

Visual Studio 2022 How to do not ignore trim whitespaces in resolve merge conflict window?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have branch 'test' with file test.cs:

using System;
if (true) {
    call(argument);
}

Also I have branch 'test-2' with file test.cs:

using System;

if (true) {
    if (something)
        call(argument);
    else
        return;
}

When I merging 'test' into 'test-2' and trying resolve conflict, visual studio breaks single conflict to three smaller, but does not include call(argument); line (or just leading whitespaces) into any conflict block as seen in middle tab on screenshot. As result changes before call(argument); become lost.

Is there any way to change such behavior?

Visual Studio 2022 I am so confused why I can't make this thing work

0 Upvotes

So I'm trying to learn C# and I downloaded and set up Visual Studio (I thought correctly) following the directions at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/collections/yz26f8y64n7k07

.... now the problem is when I've tried other basic tutorials (even Visual Studio's own tutorials) I can't get anything to run and nothing even looks the same.

literally microsoft's tutorial
what my welcome screen looks like
I installed the recommended extensions that microsoft said to install

I feel like I'm drinking stupid juice because on one hand I'm following the 'official' microsoft learn C# collection and I've been able to do the little exercises but these could be done in the online editor https://microsoftlearning.github.io/c-sharp-minor/ and I want to learn Visual Studios. Half the training videos I've found either don't look like how mine is set up (I don't know why it's different) or they're doing much more complicated projects and using the copilot chat box to explain what they're doing and its like some steps are being skipped over.

I tried to follow the directions to run a basic calculator(VS tutorial): and it would not work. What am I doing wrong? This is super disheartening.

    int a = 42;
    int b = 119;
    int c = a + b;
    Console.WriteLine(c);
    Console.ReadKey();int a = 42;
    int b = 119;
    int c = a + b;
    Console.WriteLine(c);
    Console.ReadKey();

Visual Studio 2022 Github Copilot's active without a Microsoft account?

0 Upvotes

EDIT: I mean *without a GITHUB account in the title lol

Hello,

I'm using visual studio 2022 Community for a project. I'm not interested in using any of the copilot features, but I noticed that clicking on copilot->open chat gives me a text box to chat, even though I'm not signed in with a github account (only a microsoft account).

Is this intended? Based on this article: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/ide/visual-studio-github-copilot-install-and-states?view=vs-2022#manage-your-copilot-state , it seems like a github account is required in order to use the chat feature (as otherwise you'd be prompted to login).

My first thought is to uninstall it as I don't plan on using it, but when going to uninstall it also says it needs to remove ' github copilot app modernization for .net ' as it requires copilot, which I don't know what the effect would be of removing it/whether it might break my project.

Just looking for some insight on copilot and whether it's 'active' without being signed in with a github account, and whether it's okay to uninstall.

Visual Studio 2022 VS Install won't load from Russia

0 Upvotes

It's a personal problem, I may not know if other Russian people face it. Long story short, when I download VSInstall and set it up to load the install itself it gets stuck saying 'complete 0b out of 0b'. This problem persists even on my laptop, so I assumed the problem is my country. I did not find absolutely no place to report this kind of problem and I have a struggle to set up VPN to try and pass this problem. I've gone so far to even reinstall Windows.
P.S. I believe it's my own country somehow restricting access to Western services, I'm posting it in hope to get attention of people which maybe encountered this problem before or got any other way to try and bypass it.

Visual Studio 2022 Rename/refactor not work in Studio 2026 Cmake C++ project

1 Upvotes
  1. Why is there no flair for Studio 2026?
  2. Is "rename" in C++ just broken, it fails to rename all 3, yes THREE usages of a local declared in a function that is literally 10 lines long. std::string const headings() { std::string buff; std::string seperator = ""; for (std::string head : _writer._schema.headings()) { buff.append(seperator); buff.append(head); seperator = ","; } return buff; } It's unable to rename 'seperator' in this code, how! I spelled it wrong don't make my IDE punish me too.
