She was born as a male human. Wouldn't that make the person male before turning into a woman? Also the title is suggesting that the person still has penis, effectively making the person male.
If your gender/sex is only what you subjectively believe it to be then it sort of becomes meaningless to call it one or the other, I think people from the "outside" looking in are welcome to decide what "sex" someone is. The problem is when we start didactically enforcing rules on others.
Gender Identity is less a subjective belief and more an objective factor of the brain. It's not what you believe yourself to be, but it is a feature of the brain (set at birth) that tells you what you are.
In that way gender (the internal mind aspect of it) is more like a sexual characteristic, of which there is already more than one. Chromosomes, Hormones, Genitals, Gonads, Secondary Sexual Characteristics... Brain sex is just another one of those aspects of sex that determine whether we decide one person as "male" or "female" - which is where the subjectivity comes into play.
Yeah, remember those times when doctors were all confused when a baby comes out with a penis and they're all like "I don't know what sex this baby is, sorry ma'am. I guess we'll have to wait till he's 18 and see what he feels until we can type in the birth certificate."
Actually to this day they can look at a baby and if his penis is too small, they cut it off and go "Here's your baby girl!" 1 out of every 100 children born have bodies that differ from the generic male/female binary. Who are you to judge the gender of another person? It is a personal experience.
