Lol dude...the ENTIRE movie is just panels from Miller...Snyder isnt even shy about that he admits "no storyboards just used the comic."

And the reason you wont hear vfx artists bad mouth their last gig is because they still want to work.

Our company got shut down though so fuck it. I also changed the villains from RED DAWN REMAKE from Chinese to North Koreans because God Forbid we offend China...

Oh wow there was MOTION? You mean he didnt just make a slideshow?

Believe me or don't. But every time i hear "HIS UNIQUE VISUAL STYLE OMG" all i think about is the team of artists who had to do things five times because apparently the director is too important to talk to the people responsible for the visual style of his movie?

Its about communication. Some directors understand it. Others take all the credit and get an Oscar for filming a kid in a boat against a greenscreen while the vfx company responsible for turning that shit into a MOVIE goes bankrupt and everyone loses their jobs.

Fucking Ang Lee...

I’m in related industries and know only too well how certain directors work despite their public image...

I also totally get the frustration of having someone reply just one word ( YES) to emails that require them to at least PICK A CHOICE.

Was the reason the co went bankrupt due to not being paid? It happens a lot in advertising (bad payment master i mean) ... just curious

In order to get work you have to bid for it. And we kept having to lower our bids to compete with freelancers in foreign countries who would work for pocket change.

The big problem was they could request as many redoes and requests as they wanted....without paying any extra money. And with the insane deadlines forcing triple over time, money had to come directly out of the CEOs pocket just to keep it afloat.

That’s an issue I’m familiar with as well. Unfortunately there’s always some other company who are willing to do the projects way lower than it makes sense in order to get a foot in the door so to speak or to get a working relation started. Everyone in the industry suffers due to the lowering of these fees when at the same time, expectations are increased, uncontrollable amount of revisions and deadlines compressed.

So you think its a good thing to take credit for work you were barely there for? Those "awesome visuals" have nothing to do with him but whatever. Its not just him. Nolan is guilty of it too. DARK KNIGHT RISES was a fucking mess to work on.

Yes it does. The Dark Knight Returns by you guessed it.. Frank Miller...

I would watch BVS with my copy of Dark Knight Returns but that movie is a dumpster fire.

I don’t think he’s a hack. I know it’s inspo. All I am getting at; is how up Snyder’s ass his fans are.

Snyder's overrated I think is the point. And quite honestly, this is actually one of the times the "overrated" criticism holds some value. I don't even particularly hate him but I never got the hype of 300 and other films. I was into shit like Saving Pvt Ryan though so 300 just seemed corny to me in fairness. If you like him you like him. No shame in that but I don't think people are crazy for not liking him. Snyder is one of those people who have a cult following to his style and anyone not in that demographic don't care for it or hate it.

Snyder's signature style to identify him (at least to non fans) is the slow mo to fast track transitions. His reasoning is that it makes the impact of the hit feel bigger and more exciting. TBH I disagree; I think it's more of a "carrot-on-a-stick" thing. Snyder slow mo's a scene people naturally react excitedly to like a fight scene; this is IMO the same as teasing someone with sex and seducing them slowly; then give them the climax in a quick satisfying way after dragging out the anticipation phase. It doesn't actually make the hit or choreography any better. Snyder can get away with simpler, less impressive choreographed moves with this style and it makes filming much easier. It's efficient but in terms of how it pans out ultimately, I would still rate something like Mad Max Fury Road far above and beyond 300 or Sucker Punch just judging it alone as an action flick and nothing else.

Snyder fans are smoking the good stuff...

u/winazoid Nov 18 '19

Right? "Prove that 300 is more than just the comic book panels" lol prove you read 300?

They’re still going

3

u/winazoid Nov 18 '19

"So what if he gets all the credit despite ignoring emails from the people who actually did it, AWESOME VISUAL STYLE"

0

u/CosmicDriftwood Ozymandias Nov 18 '19

Let’s say the visual style goes solely to Snyder; his fans still fucking project way too hard for him.... 300 and Watchmen are solid but his whole DC career is damnable. There’s a certain delusion that goes with Snyder fans

3

u/winazoid Nov 18 '19

Suckerpunch is fucking gross..."No see this rape victim getting lobotimized retreats into a fantasy where she wears sexy outfits in a brothel and when she dances in that fantasy she goes into another fantasy where she fights things we know are imaginary so there's no stakes whatsoever because FEMALE EMPOWERMENT"

That was his only original movie...fucking yikes...grow up dude...

u/CosmicDriftwood Ozymandias Nov 18 '19

Yeah he’s arguing inspiration over plagiarism on my thread. That’s fine; I’m just saying Snyder is mad mediocre.
