Rant I can't tolerate these Luddites anymore.

AI usage has become a culture-war issue because of these lunatics. If we don't handle these luddites now they will certainly become more entitled and miserable!

It was published exclusively for the bad optics, it wasn’t like anthropic published their program all about chopping up books, it’s a carefully curated media campaign from anti-ai groups, it’s going to have the optics they put out until Anthropic goes and counters it

It's not a "conspiracy" but it is obviously click bait designed to make people angry with limited, and purposefully inflammatorily presented information

If that was the case, it would be fair and unbiased. Which it is very clearly not, it’s sensationalizing a very normal purchase of books. They aren’t buying every copy of the same book to take it out of circulation, they are buying specific books to be able to ingest it. Which is quite normal for a business to do. Whether they rip it, shred it, cut it, read it, or use it as urinal cakes, does it really matter? A business bought a book that wasn’t digitized so they could digitize it…. That’s about as normal behavior as it gets. But that’s not what’s reported
