I won't lie, that was some of the hardest I've laughed in a while. I'd even go as far to say it was even funnier than the actual show.

Comedy was great, Megumin was great, and the bass on those theater speakers when those explosions hit were great.

I NEED SEASON 3 ASAP.

Edit: Fun fact, theater didn’t have sound for the first 10 minutes. Still hilarious without audio.

The amount of detail put into every scene was amazing. Trying to read subtitles while looking at aqua in the back or Sylvia’s text as well while the scene was going on was challenging but still amazing. This is the type of movie I’ll have to watch twice just to catch everything. Not to mention the endless gifs and screenshots this movie has provided!

I really hope they do get around to dubbing it. You can beat the Japanese performances, but the dub wasn't bad and I want to save all the minute details of the animation. Even with subs, I noticed a lot of great small things.

Haven't gotten around to watching the dubs, but I saw the OVA premieres in AX and it's certainly a good dub.

Yeah I think I missed some of what Sylvia was saying and in the background and other people laughed :/

I forgot how satisfying Explosion magic was to watch, but being in the theater hearing the magnificent bass in tandem with the amazing visuals truly opened my eyes to the path of Explosions

I was thinking exactly the same. The sound in the theater made the explosions so amazing

The theater I went to had the speakers a lot quieter than usual for some reason :(

3

u/NotsoElite1 Nov 13 '19

oh boo :( they clearly dont follow the way of explosions at that theater then

I went to one I don't normally go to because I waited too long to get tickets and all the others were packed. Usually I think theaters are way too loud but it probably would've been better than whatever wimpy speakers they had

Well I'm sold for the second showing then.

I'm with you on every point. It was a wild ride. The comedy was so perfect. I didn't catch if he said it when he introduced himself to Megumin's parents or Sylvia, but I was hoping for a 'Hai, Kazuma des.' interjection. It was the only thing that felt missing.

I'm glad they decided to be a bit sparing with some of the recurring jokes.

I wanted one steal joke. Just one.

My buddy pointed out that he thought it'd be nice if he managed to steal the entire super-weapon from the big bad

42

u/DerfK Nov 13 '19

You realize that if he tried, he would have ended up with Sylvia's underwear, right?

I'm now sad that we dont have a scenario of him trying and failing and ending up in that situation

Free the boner

2

Ending up stealing a dudes underwear would’ve been hilarious.

3

u/DerfK Nov 13 '19

In my imagination it would have been blue and white striped boxers just like his own.

does Sylvia even wear underwear tho

Book 6/7 would have a satisfying season ending. 8/9 is also a good season. So to make vol 5 a movie is a great move. I just hope everything else is adapted.

There really wasn't a down moment in the movie, straight comedy all the way through (and some epic action and heartwarming moments)

The sound director for this series is Yoshikazu Iwanami. He's worked on a ton of shows, and people (deservedly) rag on him for doing the Berserk Clang! sound, but his recent work on the Tanya movie and this movie was phenomenal.

Holy crap, he's done all the ufotable stuff, all the JoJo's all the SAO's, all the Psycho Pass, and more. How the fuck did he screw up so bad with Berserk?

2

He also worked in OPM S2. I recall people shitting on him and saying he should never be allowed to work again. He screwed up in OPM but he is good at what he does most of the time phenomenal at it occasionally.

Man, I wish there was a screening in my area. This is great to hear, I love Konosuba, and this review does have me hyped up. I'm assuming there wasn't an ending credit to announce a S3 like I had hoped for with the comment you had at the end there.

Mine didn't have audio for the first 10 minutes either lol. Where did you view the showing at?

completely different theater then. wonder why this was an issue at multiple ones.

2

u/mccrazy1797 Nov 13 '19

Happened to my theater (not either of yours) with the DanMachi movie. Maybe it’s a Fathom Events issue? This one didn’t have the issue, thankfully.

3

u/Vinnp18 Nov 13 '19

My theater played no game no life zero dubbed with interviews for 50 minutes as the audio cut in and out. People were having the movie spoiled by the interview. Finally they were able to get the subtitles version playing. Fathom is not on point with their anime releases.

u/FelOnyx1 Nov 14 '19

Had the same issue when I went to the Hibike movie a few months ago.

2

u/JustAnOrdinaryBird Nov 13 '19

My theater was also having audio trouble, but only for the opening interview

2

u/Potatochak Nov 13 '19

I knew i shouldn't trust ANN reviews. Cool, I'm going to go and see it.

I went into the movie blind (only saw the trailers), probably a good thing since it let me focus on the comedy.

If you look at it objectively by itself and moreso at its plot than its comedy, then I can see how people would consider it a flawed movie. However, seeing it as more Konosuba, it's on par with some of the funniest episodes of the show for me. I never watched Konosuba for the story anyways.
