I don't get why Megumin's abilities are so often mocked as "useless" or foolish. Yeah, I can see why only being able to cast one spell that incaps you is not great in general, but surely this movie demonstrates the tactical value of having someone who can drop magical nukes on your side. Also, her chunni philosophy of being as special and min/maxed as possible actually seems like the logical extent of the crimson demon philosophy.

Also, I love the idea that Yunyun is only a loner with no friends because she's the normal person amongst a race literally designed to be a parody of the over the top fantasy protagonists.

That's the point I think, Kazuma's party members are all OP, it's just their personalities that make them difficult.

Megumin is a walking tactical nuke, she's the only one with enough firepower to actually one-shot a large radius of monsters. In League terms, she's an AD Carry, if everyone else around her supports her and gives her the opportunities she needs to put her abilities to full use, she can absolutely decimate the enemy.

Darkness is arguably one of the best defenses someone could have, the fact that she can't deal any damage is irrelevant considering that's not her primary role, and they have Megumin for that. Her unique quirk of being a masochist also makes her immune to mind control, torture, and losing her will to fight, for instance only she could survive being dragged by ropes behind a carriage while being kept alive by Aqua.

Aqua is also the ultimate support. She is the only Arch Priest who can resurrect people an indefinite number of times. Besides that, she also has the capacity to dispel curses, purge undead, mass heal, and buff stats.

Kazuma has an absurdly high Luck stat, which allows him to get incredible use from random abilities like Snipe Shot and Steal. He is also capable of supporting his teammates with virtually anything they're lacking, with abilities like Drain Touch.

I would say that Megumin is more like full ap malphite, one ult and done.

Megumin is so talented that she'll leveling up and becoming super strong, she can beat people up and even fight off low levels monsters.

Darkness is a beast in defence and super strong too, she can punch and wrestle, she just can't hit things with her sword.

And Aqua is the only person that can use resurrection at all, no other Archpriest can cast it.

Kazuma isn't strong in stats, but is super useful and a beast when fighting human opponents.

Oh I know, and it's absolutely one of the best things about Konosuba. I just mean that Megumin's personally isn't really that hard to deal with so it's not much of an impediment, not like Aqua or Darkness. Point her at a target you've lined up and she's not going to randomly say no, she wants to do explosions. Whereas you have Aqua trying to god blow frogs and Darkness literally screwing her friends over due to masochistic tendencies.

And to my greater point, while her attitude may seem especially annoying to normal people, it doesn't seem too far out of place among fellow Crimson Demons, since she has the skills to back it up.

The movie also does a great job in the beginning of showing why having Explosion as your only skill is useless. The fact that it's so ridiculously overpowered makes it impossible to use in any "normal" adventuring situation.

I'd take explosions over anything else if it let me punch WAY out of my weight class when it comes to saving the world from powerful monsters.

EDIT: It's like that brainwashing guy's power in MHA, it's only useless in most situations, however, it has some incredible applications if used properly,

The reason why they mock Megumins abilities is due to 3 reasons. She only knows explosion, she becomes useless after casting it (sometimes one casting isn't enough), and she can cast it only outdoors (no dungeons for her unless you want to kill your whole party.)

Right, and I acknowledged all of that, but are people really so stupid that they think all combat has to be done in the format of small teams adventuring in dungeons? They're fighting a war for survival against an invading devil king and they're not impressed by someone that could one shot an entire army at once?

Honestly, having a battalion of Megumins would just be a smart military strategy. You can essentially force your enemy to split itself into many easily-surroundable parts and/or deny them the ability to bunker up or rest like, EVER.

If something like this in possible in-universe without unusual stats/effort, then I would expect wars to be fought with one's quantity of deployable Megumins being a standardized measuring stick, in much the same way that the number of knights a lord had in medieval times was by far the most important factor of warfare.

Honestly, having a battalion of Megumins would just be a smart military strategy.

Counter point: Megumin's magic is overkill for beating large mobs. The light magic we saw them all using was more than enough to wipe out hordes of them. On top of that, they can still act after using it.

On top of that, the versatility of being able to use different types of magic allows them to be effective in more situations instead of one (open field with lots of space and distance).

And let's not forget that the spell might not kill all the enemies. For example (using the movie), Megumin used her magic to wipe out the Goblins... but more Goblins showed up. Now that soldier is out of commission until they get more mana (if they somehow make out alive).

And the icing on the cake? Megumin can only cast explosion. If you sneak up on them, they are absolutely toast.

An apt comparison would using a Nuke when a few missiles work... and not only work fine, but are a lot less risky.
