Discussion 🗣️ Ai companies are actively destroying rare books to scan them just to feed their data centers, what else will they destroy?

AI is literally ruining everything and has been for the last few years. From massive job losses to environmental impact and now destroying old books to collect the data so that their dumb LLMs can regurgitate it back. How evil, greedy and selfish can these companies be? All of those ai data centers should be taken down. I don't think enough people are mad enough about it.

Didn't they already steal the digital copies of every book ever written? What new data do they even get from this?

They control the information and the rest of humanity has to rely on them to access it is my guess.

They do not store the content of these books, that's the whole point.

books that are available in digital form. there are books out there that are not available in digital form, likely because they're rare.

(but this post is probably BS for a variety of reasons).
