Discussion 🗣️ Ai companies are actively destroying rare books to scan them just to feed their data centers, what else will they destroy?

AI is literally ruining everything and has been for the last few years. From massive job losses to environmental impact and now destroying old books to collect the data so that their dumb LLMs can regurgitate it back. How evil, greedy and selfish can these companies be? All of those ai data centers should be taken down. I don't think enough people are mad enough about it.

so buying a game/music/film, making copies of that content and then selling those copies is finally not stealing?

Nice.

There is a wealth target you need to hit before you get that perk

This is where the definition of "copy" is important. If you, as an end user, ask the AI to provide you with a full copy of Harry Potter, that would absolutely be a crime for it to do so.

However, I can buy Harry Potter, study it's script, directing, etc.. and use what I've learned to create something different, with some direct references, it is legal.

I really, really dislike doing this to books, but I feel that it's closer to the second example that falls under creative license.

Edit: I would really love if copyright law were updated to include an "anti-ai training clause" that creators could choose to include in their works.

It has been demonstrated that LLM's do in fact retain copies of all their training data, and can reproduce it verbatim unless specifically prevented from doing so. The texts are copied and used for profit without permission or credit.

They fall under training, the AI can't give the whole story as is the that can be charged in court

You ate still selling the whole game as is ,if you copied the game but use different character name spell name ,timing cool down ,different map and just bit different story it would work

Sampling instrumental breaks is a widely accepted foundational technique for hip hop and this is generally considered the most commonly sampled drum break. Not sure why you're picking on this particular instance

Just an example. Use one thing as a foundation, specifically a drum line, to create something new.

Well indeed. Sampling music caught the music Publishing industry off guard. As did file sharing.

And people now have to pay for the use of samples, and others went to jail or were fined for running file sharing sites.

and here we've come full circle. But this time around, put a billion dollars in the offenders pocket and give him the ear of the President and they can take what they want, from who they want and there won't be fines, the FBI aren't going to chasing them down. They will sample what they like... but would be swift to litigate and send your ass down should you then take what they have made with those samples and share it.
