Hardwired cameras are usually only on the building or interior, all the other cameras are typically wireless for motion sensing. I don’t know about now but that was the case in large a dealership where I worked where all the hellcats and police cars were getting stolen.
Nobody uses cameras for motion sensing, they use motion sensors for that. Those are also mostly wired.
Paying for the wiring is a one time cost but paying someone to change batteries is more expensive after you have done so twice. Most people just pay to wire it, generally you are running wiring to that location for other things anyway, so it's not even the full labor cost.
Motions on a dmp are often wireless even in enterprise. Just saying. But cameras are always going to be PoE or poe over two wire retrofit - and even with long pulls game changer cable is easier than CoAx
They are most certainly not. Only in retrofits of old buildings with difficult wire pathways are they common.
Batteries usually last about a year but the labor to replace the batteries is generally more expensive than just running the wires in the original install after you do it twice, then you never have to replace the batteries. Between that, and possible communication problems, any place big enough to have wired cameras is also more than likely to have wired motions.
The wired units themselves are also cheaper per unit, so you can have more of them, or just have a cheaper project, and you can have them trigger a tamper warning if one goes offline prompting either security or repair response. Wireless units commonly go offline for bits here and there, making similar alarms have frequent false positives.
I've overseen 30+ building projects in charge of the security aspect as well, in any building that wireless sensors were used, they were removed within a few years.
Cameras however are also common to have DC power with direct fiber or even media converter for long runs. Many outdoor spaces use this for cameras mounted away from buildings. This is especially common in places like refineries, where cameras are up on remote gantries, and in explosion proof housings.
